US announces evacuations out of Israel for American citizens
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee announced Wednesday that the United States is organizing evacuations of American citizens out of Israel, as the specter of the U.S. potentially striking against Iran looms.
In a post on X, Huckabee wrote that the embassy is “working on evacuation flights and cruise ship departures” for citizens who are “wanting to leave” the country. Americans looking to leave Israel via an evacuation flight or cruise ship departure need to be registered via the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, Huckabee added.
But the announcement follows several days of signaling from President Donald Trump and the White House that it is mulling intervening in the ongoing fighting between Israel and Iran to take out Iranian nuclear facilities buried underground.

Gonna guess all the phone manufacturers will coincidentally determine that waterproofing is a feature desperately needed by the European market on all tiers.
Also won't affect iPhones since they're already all "waterproof."
I don't know if the changes coming into affect today have something different about replaceable batteries, but the 2027 replaceable battery requirement has this as the exemption:
2. By way of derogation from paragraph 1, the following products incorporating portable batteries may be designed in such a way as to make the battery removable and replaceable only by independent professionals:(a) appliances specifically designed to operate primarily in an environment that is regularly subject to splashing water, water streams or water immersion, and that are intended to be washable or rinseable;
(b) professional medical imaging and radiotherapy devices, as defined in Article 2, point (1), of Regulation (EU) 2017/745, and in vitro diagnostic medical devices, as defined in Article 2, point (2), of Regulation (EU) 2017/746.
The only thing there Apple could even pretend is "washable or rinsable", and I'd be shocked* if they could get away with that.

Currenty, I use Apple Books but it is very slow and I cannot sync it outside the Apple environment.

is there is any Lemmy server that care about privacy(does not require email), Does not impose limits on community posts like my current instance and does not have high amount of restrictions?
I want to be part of the solution of the problems I see on Lemmy, that is why I opened my alt account at my current server to open new communities while fixing their issues.
I had been informed by the server admin that I should not post more than 5 posts in any local community which is guaranteed to kill my communities on my current server.
I am explaining the backstory here for people to understand my logic for my question.
So, I really appreciate any help here. If anyone can give me good servers to open my communities in.
My current communities:
- News: to lower the load on Lemmy. World server and to improve the Fediverse health.
- Europe: due to less than optimal moderation actions as documented in "power trippin " community.
- Misinformation/ Disinformation: Because there is no community to post research and news about this topic.

The U.S. military recently announced that four executives from some of the top tech companies in Silicon Valley have joined the Army Reserve as direct-commissioned officers. The move is part of a push to speed up the adoption of technology in the military, but as the news outlet Task & Purpose points out, it’s pretty unusual.
The Army said in a press release that the four executives are Shyam Sankar, CTO at Palantir; Andrew Bosworth, CTO at Meta; Kevin Weil, Chief Product Officer of OpenAI; and Bob McGrew, an advisor at Thinking Machines Lab and former Chief Research Officer for OpenAI.
The four men are being commissioned at the high rank of lieutenant colonel as part of a program called Detachment 201: The Army’s Executive Innovation Corps. As Task & Purpose notes, the men will get to skip the usual process of taking a Direct Commissioning Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, and they won’t need to complete the Army Fitness Test.

State-run health care websites around the country, meant to provide a simple way to shop for insurance, have been quietly sending visitors’ sensitive health information to Google and social media companies, The Markup and CalMatters found.
The data, including prescription drug names and dosages, was sent by web trackers on state exchanges set up under the Affordable Care Act to help Americans purchase health coverage.
As visitors answered the questions, their responses were sent to LinkedIn and Snapchat, according to tests conducted by The Markup and CalMatters in April and May.
On the other side of the country, Maine’s exchange, CoverME.gov, sent information on drug prescriptions and dosages to Google through an analytics tool. It also sent the names of doctors and hospitals that people had previously visited.

Nel corso del 2024, l’Italia ha registrato un aggravamento significativo sia della #povertà assoluta sia di quella relativa, alla luce di dati ufficiali e referti della società civile. Secondo l’ultimo rapporto ISTAT e della “Caritas”, la quota di persone in condizione di povertà assoluta ha raggiunto il 9,7 %, pari a circa 5,6–5,7 milioni di individui, corrispondente a circa 2,2 milioni di famiglie. Lo stesso rapporto segnala come la povertà assoluta, benché stabile tra il 2022 e il 2023, risulti al livello più elevato dell’ultimo decennio, con una progressione costante dal 2014 (dal 6,9 % al 9,7 %) per quanto riguarda le persone.

Tale contesto si dispiega in un quadro di politiche pubbliche inadeguate: le misure statali di contrasto alla povertà — dal “reddito di inclusione” alla spesa sociale — risultano insufficienti e, in molti casi, inefficaci. Nonostante il “Reddito di cittadinanza” abbia avuto un impatto importante, ben il 56 % delle persone povere non lo ha percepito, per cause che vanno dai problemi di residenza alla burocrazia. Le politiche di welfare restano lacunose e non affrontano adeguatamente la questione del “lavoro povero”, né investono in una rete di protezione robusta per le famiglie vulnerabili.
Questa fragilità sociale si inserisce in un contesto europeo che appare sempre più orientato verso la militarizzazione. Il “ReArm Europe – Readiness 2030”, lanciato a marzo 2025 dalla Commissione UE, punta a mobilitare fino a 800 miliardi di euro in spese per la difesa, tra aumenti delle spese nazionali, fondi comuni e prestiti SAFE da 150 miliardi, con la possibilità di dirottare risorse dai fondi di coesione e sostenibilità. Secondo le ultime stime, per colmare il gap militare si dovrebbe arrivare a investire fino al 5 % del PIL, una cifra che in Francia, Regno Unito e in molti altri Paesi corrisponde all’intero ammontare delle loro politiche di welfare e di protezione sociale. Analisti economici sottolineano che una simile quantità di risorse sarà sottratta a capitoli cruciali per combattere la povertà, rafforzare l’istruzione, la sanità e l’inclusione sociale, aumentando di conseguenza le disuguaglianze e l’emarginazione delle fasce più deboli.
La convergenza tra crisi del reddito, insufficienza delle politiche sociali e spinta europea verso spese militari aggressive aggrava la condizione dei più deboli. Se non si rivedono le priorità — affiancando politiche attive per il lavoro, la dignità universale del reddito e un welfare veramente inclusivo — il rischio è quello di lasciare milioni di cittadini italiani ed europei in una situazione di esclusione sempre più profonda.
Ma, forse, è proprio questo lo scopo ultimo di tutta questa sequela di mancanze, di tutti i soldi che non andranno ad aiutare le persone, soprattutto quelle povere, emarginate, fastidiose: la loro eliminazione. Se non fisica (almeno lo spero), almeno dalla vita pubblica, dalla società. Relegare coloro che non possono più permettersi la dignità sarebbe un ottimo viatico alla dittatura totale del liberismo, dell’effimero, del domani concesso solo a chi i soldi li ha e non viene disturbato da Governi sempre più distanti da una minima idea di democrazia.Se il futuro deve ancora essere scritto, non può diventare così. Nota: questo sarà un post noioso, ma, a volte, le aride cifre fotografano nitidamente le situazioni, anche quelle molto grandi, anche quelle che dentro hanno milioni di persone. D’altro canto sono certo che chiunque vorrà leggere queste righe sa comprendere benissimo numeri e percentuali. Altrimenti sarebbe un guaio.
Nel corso del 2024, l’Italia ha registrato un aggravamento significativo sia della #povertà assoluta sia di quella relativa, alla luce di dati ufficiali e referti della società civile. Secondo l’ultimo rapporto ISTAT e della “Caritas”, la quota di persone in condizione di povertà assoluta ha raggiunto il 9,7 %, pari a circa 5,6–5,7 milioni di individui, corrispondente a circa 2,2 milioni di famiglie. Lo stesso rapporto segnala come la povertà assoluta, benché stabile tra il 2022 e il 2023, risulti al livello più elevato dell’ultimo decennio, con una progressione costante dal 2014 (dal 6,9 % al 9,7 %) per quanto riguarda le persone.

For example, Nvfbc+Nvenc is a must-have for game streaming with Moonlight and ALVR (not sure if AMD has anything like that), but it's my poor understanding that this type of GPU-only framebuffer capture isn't possible on Wayland for security or other reasons, which is sadly keeping me on X11.
Windows probably has awesome screencapture APIs given that the NVIDIA Capture SDK documentation cites it as why they removed Nvfbc from their Window's drivers but not their Linux drivers.
The proof that Windows reaped the rewards of unifying all their stuff can be seen in the Lossless Scaling-likes that are on the market (Magpie, Integer Scaling, etc.) while all Linux has is like Gamescope and vkbasalt 2, so apples and oranges.
I dont see anything in your post that isnt already possible on Linux. OBS and GPU-Screen-Recorder both work great, I dont know what features could be needed that they dont offer.
Gamescope is capable of upscaling games with FSR. It doesnt support as many upscaling options as Magpie, but clearly the capability is there and not restricted by anything inherent to Linux.

As for me, I did visit Schweiz and Lake Geneva a long time ago as a youth, and was impressed by its supreme cleanliness, and (expensive, haha) charm. The chocolates were incredible, and I remember a nice sweetened, hot cocoa mix called... "Suchet," was it? (hmm, or was that an Italian one?) Point is, there wasn't anything quite like that hot chocolate across the two major US cities I grew up in, I think maybe because such brands processed cocoa solids a bit differently than in the American market. (side-note: I found the Toblerone chocolate imported to the USA quite excellent, but surprisingly clumsy in terms of marketing to the American market, but... whatever)

Oh, and I especially remember the super-pleasant little family hikes we took, around our hotel, I think around the base of Mt. Jungfrau or her 'sibs.' I also recall the countryside teeming with a sort of 'classic Teletubbies' landscape, i.e. vaast, perfectly manicured English-style lawns, featuring cattle grazing just as they pleased...
Now for some reason (as that little boy), and despite a previous visit to an uncle's ranch, I'd never really SEEN cows (i.e. female milk-producing-bred cattle) up close, before. The Swiss cows seemed so cute and placid to me, which impacted me nicely those days, specifically as a troubled kid with both 'high-energy' and 'low-energy' conflicting qualities. (oof, hard to explain the whole mess, really)
Anyway! Every time our family passed by a tourist-type shop, and for the duration of the trip, I would be SURE to pick up a couple more 'milker' postcards as I discovered them, which I eventually built in to a mighty stack of excellence, which in my mind rivaled or even surpassed (haha) my buddies' typical, lame baseball card collections. Now, far as I know, 'cows against cowboys' didn't start as a conscience thing at the time, but maaybee it was subconsciously a kind of earthy, spicy retort to 'putting people in boxes,' like-- "Well, my players give delicious milk (and beef); how many of your 'baseball stars' can claim the same, losers?" (lol, I'm so ridiculous)
For example: "I'll trade you my awesome "Swiss-kiss" card for one of your Babe Ruth's and a huge stack of Barry Bonds!" (no, I'm not implying nuttin, babe; absolutely not!) (I swear, though, that exact image was on one my beloved collectibles)
Haha, alright, one last little ramble before I get to Muralt's stuff. It's that my family's Euro trip way back when ignited in me a real appreciation and curiosity about Europe as a whole, that in fact turned in to something of a life-long pursuit, especially when it comes to BD. See, we also visited Italy, Austria and Hungary for the record, all equally-fascinating places. Altho Hungary being part of the Soviet bloc at the time, it was a little scary getting in and out.
