Calling a state "authoritarian" is a childish distraction. All states rule through a monopoly on violence and the only difference is which class they're pointing the guns for. Western "democracies" serve the capital owning class. Meanwhile, so-called "authoritarian" states like China, direct state power toward working-class interests, which is why leaders like Xi actually enjoy popular support instead of mass discontent.
The binary is a fantasy. The only real question is: who does the state work for?

I literelly don't know which "side is right" in this argument. In a country where there is propaganda and social media is strictly moderated by the government and not a lot of independent journalism (like YouTube or blogs even get pressured to shut down) and which has a social score controlling your life and thougs - how would one make a actually independent and fair survey? There is no democracy, so why turn against it if you have no way of changing it?
Of cause we are a bit brainwashed by the west and Chinas enemies and I think trump helped a lot to remove the elusion of a "good and strong america". But it still feels like the people are more free in the west, we have democracy and solid education and independent social media and journalism which is very important to me.
And its very impressive what China achieved in the short amount of time, compared to the west, industrially speaking. But socially (like what the government does) I really would not want to live there at all.

I think you have a great opportunity to learn more about the PRC, and how socialism works in the real world. No, it isn't black and white thinking. You can find good socialist critique on Lemmy, I normally focus on exposing holes in the lazy critique or outright slander because that's what's dominant in the west. Socialist spaces already have discussions on China, and since we communists already spend a good deal of time trying to study it as well as communist theory and history, it helps elevate discussion beyond what's normally had in the west.
A good example here is your claim that China isn't democratic. This is wrong, though a common misconception. China has a comprehensive, whole-process people's democracy based on gathering input from the people and laddering decisionmaking upwards from the local level. The top of the CPC is like the brain, while the different regional and provincial organs make their own decisions and inform the brain. It isn't the only thing one should read, but it's a good speech and elaborates on the Chinese position well, helping contextualize the positive perception around democracy in China compared to western countries.
Any speech trying to push a viewpoint is propaganda, ie pretty much every political speech. Propaganda can be good or bad depending on what it's pushing, it isn't synonymous with "lies." I still see no reason why one should avoid reading Xi Jinping's viewpoint on democracy and how it's used in China, it's not like after reading it your brain turns you into a Maoist sleeper agent. It takes 14 minutes to read, that's nearly nothing.
I know about the distribution of power, that has a kind of pyramid shape, sorry for the lack of vocabulary. I have also seen videos, of cause one sided, from people that lived in China for some time and displaying their view. One very popular story is the "they paint their grass green", which I understood as follows: There is the goal of having a certain amount of green land in the country, so each region trys to reach that goal and show the higher ups how good it is going by having green grass and hills. This is of cause a very simplified scenario, but I have read a few other things that aren't so great. Of cause you can say the same thing about many other western and global north countries, but very few people are so emotional and strong opinionated as supporters of China, some north korea or Russia. I feel like i have not read a comment with such a strong opinion about any other country here on Lemmy.
I see that the view of most westerns is shifted from reality, but I have not read a comment that seems to see both sides of that country, it seems very extremistic.
Now when I think of China, these things come to mind: - the Uighurs - not quite working democracy - extreme surveillance - stories of people getting herassed by the police for criticising the state or being different (Naomi Wu on yt for example) - impressive industrial development in the last few decades - high working ethics - creativity in engineering - skilled labour - high building rates of solar and renewable energy sources - also high coal production and high building rates of coal power plants - high censorship, as it can be seen with deepseek and other AI or media - stories about testing radioactivity on a village - striving for higher environmental regulations in the industry - affiliation with Russia, that invaded Ukraine (after the Nato got closer of cause, which might be seen as a provocative move) - affiliation with north korea, which is a different conversation - their problem with Taiwan and tsmc - hard working conditions in factories (owned by western companies sometimes, but the government is supposed to protect the citizens in my view)

I don't want to talk China down, I want to understand why so many people in this space are pro china, when I see the government as pretty critical. Some of these points you raise are true, but good, like maintaining positive relations with the DPRK. Others are partially true, partially false, as an example censorship is usually for capitalists. China still has capitalists, so it restricts their ability to influence society. Others are misleading, China does use coal but it's also rapidly electrifying, outproducing everyone on solar panels, and actually exceeds its climate goals with low per-capita emissions.

Staged, to me, would imply complete fabrication with no actual basis in reality, ie paid actors and an invented setting. Framing would imply angles, selective moments, even seating arrangements in order to be more flattering and positive, but may not necessarily be wholly divorced from reality.

Well, yes, actually, it is CPC. The standard formatting of communist parties is "Communist Party of X." This is the international standard, the CPC goes by CPC and not by CCP as CCP is more nationalist than internationalist.

An XMPP server. Users with local accounts (long time friends) have almost no restrictions on what can be sent, file size, etc. We have private groups set up, dms, public rooms, etc, more or less like discord. After trying many of the popular chatting and file sharing platforms XMPP seems to be the one that works best for the most people on the most platforms within our group. YMMV.

Since you're interested in anon file sharing, I'd really recommend you take some time to really think out just what your personal definition of anonymous is, and how well it fits in modern digital infrastructure. True anonymous activity is nearly impossible, you can be fingerprinted by even writing a file to a drive to hand to someone. Every action taken online has some trace to it, while IP is generally not precise information, with enough data overlap you can be reasonably guessed depending on how much effort someone is willing to put into it.

It seems all top level comments are locked for replies - is that a server thing? A federation thing?
Scrolling through All, the content just... stops. I'm using the Boost client (maybe that's why?). I get it if I'm sorting by top hour - there's only so much posted per hour. But it's the same for Hot, Scaled, Active, etc.
Edit: looks like both of these are issues with the Boost client. Switching to Summit on Android resolves both.
Sorry about that. Piefed just had a new version release last week and part of that included some changes to the api that mobile clients use. Boost has been a bit slower to update than some of the others. It's unfortunate really, because Boost is my favorite mobile app for lemmy, but the updates can be slow. The good news is that we aren't planning any more breaking changes to the api going forward, so once Boost is updated, it should continue working.
As an aside, I would also recommend trying piefed as a PWA. It is my preferred way of using it on a mobile device.

Depends on where you are. I have mine sitting behind a pia vpn container, equivalent to a gluetun solution. My opinion is that if you're doing black market iptv in a place where you could get in trouble for it, you need a vpn.

AirVPN has port forwarding and you can set up anonymous accounts and pay in monero if you really want to go that far. The main downside is that it's slow, but if you're just using to torrent then that doesn't really matter

Innanzitutto, nessun giorno di riposo per me, solo grandi rotture; un giorno faccio giornata quasi piena, e il resto è tutto spezzato, a volte metà giornata e a volte pure meno… ma, se questa disposizione fosse più ordinata, mi starebbe anche bene andare 5 giorni su 5; alla fine, al liceo ce ne andavo ben 6, quindi a confronto questo sarebbe gran lusso… chiaramente c’è altro. Ho per due giorni lezione all’orario più peggiore della storia, cioè le 13:30, proprio a rompimento di cazzo per fare in modo che io non possa pranzare decentemente, completo, a casina… e per inciso, pure se accettassi di convertirmi al milanesimo e pranzare alle 12, non potrei, perché a quell’ora massimo devo prendere il bus. E, in tali due giorni, ho cose solo a quell’orario… in altre parole, non solo tutto il rompimento dell’andare e del tornare è per appena una (1!) materia, ma poi c’è il classico buco merdoso per cui devo aspettare un’ora buona per l’autobus… aiuto! ☠️
Analizzando ulteriormente, poi, esce ancora del peggio, figuriamoci. Il lunedì devo andare lì la mattina presto, mentre martedì e mercoledì ho solo il pomeriggio (quello sputo di pomeriggio, come ho appena detto!), giovedì ho sia la mattina che il pomeriggio, e venerdì di nuovo solo la mattina… e in realtà, se da un lato questa disposizione pare proprio perfetta per spaccarmi il sonno, perché ho 2 giorni di margine nella settimana per abituarmi involontariamente ad andare a letto troppo tardi, e i successivi 2 in cui devo svegliarmi presto, per poi avere i 2 giorni del fine settimana in cui ripetere lo stesso errore, per poi dovermi di nuovo svegliare presto lunedì… pensandoci meglio, il weekend spaccatutto lo avrei comunque, quindi quasi quasi è meglio che io abbia 2 giorni in mezzo per dormire fino alle 11 e recuperare il sonno perduto prima e poi, OK. (Rara vittoria mascherata da rogna!) Però, intanto… giovedì pomeriggio ho lezione solo alle 15:30… quindi, l’unica volta in cui converrebbero le 13:30, non mi sono concesse, e viceversa. La fine!!! 😭
Come cose da fare, almeno, se i professori si riveleranno decenti (e questo chiaramente servirà tempo per saperlo), credo non ci saranno gravi gravezze, perché stavolta le materie sono: ingegneria del software, che suppongo ci possa stare, programmazione distribuita, che è programmazione e quindi comunque non andrà al cesso, poi i seminari di accompagnamento al lavoro da seguire, e infine, come materia tra quelle a scelta, io ho preso mobile programming… che è Android, quindi si bestemmia e pure pesantemente, ma chiunque sa che preferisco di gran lunga bestemmiare appresso a Google, piuttosto che studiare algoritmi bizzarri con fondamenti di intelligenza artificiale, o cose ancora più astruse con machine learning, e questo per non parlare poi di fisica… 🤯
In realtà le prime due materie, obbligatorie per tutti, ancora non le ho avute… iniziano domani, e quindi solo domani avrò un’impressione iniziale vera (che è importante, perché a leggere solo i programmi la roba sembra sempre meno rognosa del dovuto), ma vabbé. Almeno oggi e ieri sono stati OK… se non per il fatto che oggi ho dimenticato di mettere il manga (di Sailor Moon) nello zaino, e quindi nel pullman al ritorno mi sono ritrovata a dover sprecare il tempo, anziché poter leggere, che due palle… (Quindi ho letto solo poi a casa, e dopo cena vedo di scrivere il post del capitolo… se non scoppio a causa del mal di pancia, credo psicosomatico, con annessa grossa diarrea, che mi è venuto proprio poco fa dal nulla. Si, questo post l’ho scritto proprio sul trono bianco, come la principessa che sono.) 🥱

Correction: I was wrong. Comick.dev is not fake. The base Comick.io site did briefly link to comick.dev, but the link has since been removed, likely because comick.dev was throwing errors (see screenshot below).
After looking deeper into it, here's my understanding:
comick.io is and will remain the official website.
comick.dev is a temp site the owner set up for building and testing the new tracker version of ComicK. It will likely disappear or be archived once development is complete.
If your account is older than 1.5 months (the site owner was forced to remove servers with more recent data), you should be able to log in and retrieve your lists from comick.dev.
We'll probably have to wait a couple of weeks for real news about the future of ComicK.

I didn't find comick.dev, a couple of hours ago comick.io started redirecting to the .dev domain. The admin for comick.io also announced it in the discord it is not fake. It seems the website is still under progress though.
Comick has become a tracking/wiki site. So don't log in to any site where you can read manga.** If you see manga reading available, that site is fake.**
The .live and .art domains are fake sites. Even though you might be able to log in, that's my fault. These guys hacked the old Comick server when I didn't really care about security, because Comick was just a small site and stole data. Luckily, they don't have the Comick source code, or they can't use it because it was the old version. So, they only copied Comick appearance but the source code is different. 3.** Comick lost 1.5 months of data **when I upgraded the PostgreSQL server but forgot to restart the backup process. But servers were removed -> I can't recovery these data, but Comick is continuing to build data again. Also, you could check old manga by searching in your browser's history.
Your passwords are always encrypted, so your password won't be exposed. Even I don't know what is your password.
I know Comick suddenly became a tracker/wiki, so it will lack a lot of features, but let's just wait and see.

A campaign group seeking to overturn Denver’s ban on flavored tobacco sales in the November election has far outraised supporters of the prohibition, campaign finance records show.
The opponents of the ban, a coalition of Denver vape store owners organized as a group called “Citizen Power!,” raised $410,000 through the end of August, according to campaign finance reports filed this month. The campaign group supporting the ban, “Denver Kids vs. Big Tobacco,” raised about $245,000.
In December, the Denver City Council near-unanimously approved a ban on sales of most flavored tobacco and nicotine products after public health and children’s advocates argued the products could lure young people into a life of addiction.
The council approved the ban, which applies to any sales within city limits, despite heavy lobbying from tobacco companies and vape stores. Mayor Mike Johnston signed it.
The president of the campaign group opposing the ban said that instead of creating a new prohibition for adults, Denver should better enforce its earlier ban on sales of the products to children.
In 2004, political campaigns spent 9 cents of every dollar raised on fundraising operations. By 2024, that number had reached 30 cents. American political campaigns are raising more and more money less and less efficiently. I’ve analyzed data from FEC disbursement records, using an algorithm I developed to classify expenditures by spending category. It reveals that campaigns are now spending 38 cents of every dollar raised just to raise more money—a fourfold increase from the 9 cents spent in 2004. In raw terms, campaigns burned through $3 billion on fundraising operations in 2024 alone.
This represents a fundamental shift in how political money flows through our democracy. Twenty years ago, fundraising operations were a necessary but modest expense, like renting office space or printing yard signs. Today, it has metastasized into the primary activity of most campaigns. In 2022, 31% of total expenditures were for fundraising expenses. This came close to exceeding the 33% of total expenditures going towards advertising. If current trends hold in 2026, it’s likely that fundraising costs will for the first time exceed what is spent on advertising, thus becoming the biggest spending category.
