Thinking about setting up grocy for the house, anyone here use it?
We thought about looking into a Sky calendar, but naturally for what they were offering we thought there had to be a self hosted solution.
Grocy seems to fit the bill and then some. The next challenge would be getting a touch display and mini computer to act as a kiosk to display it in the house somewhere.
Anyone else using grocy?

While the World Sleeps Safely… We Struggle to Survive
While people around the world sleep in warm, safe homes, we are trying to survive in a torn tent. The cold cuts through the thin fabric, and we shiver through the night with no protection, no warmth, and often no food.
Prices have become unbearably high, and I can no longer provide my family with even their most basic needs. Every day feels heavier than the one before, and every night feels colder and harsher.
We urgently need your support. Please donate — even the smallest amount can help us survive among this rubble.
Please, don’t forget us. Your kindness could be the warmth that saves my family

how to stop doomscrolling - feedback on an idea?
Core idea: Instead of just scrolling, social media users make verified actions that solve real problems (college debt, loneliness, media clickbait fueling rage, etc.) while brands pay premium advertising fees for measurable outcomes and the social media platform takes a platform fee.
For example:
OPERATION RENAISSANCE:
1. Social media user connects their MOOC account.
2. AI surfaces 2–4 MOOC lessons per day (career-aligned) and one optional sponsored lesson (2–4 min) from Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, AWS, etc.
3. User watches and answers 3 verification questions
4. Earns $6–$8 credit (expires after 12 months).
5. Max 5 sponsored lessons per month on free tier; unlimited on Premium+.
6. Credits auto-apply at partner checkout (no gift-card fallback, zero money-transmitter risk).
MAGNETIC:
Uses AI to continuously surface small-group (3–8 person) real-world meetups for shared hobbies — running clubs, board-game nights, climbing partners, basketball, etc. — exclusively for verified social media users who want platonic, interest-based friendships in their city.
Why? Convenience of not having to actively search for connections + safety features:
- Government-ID + real-name verification (display name can still be pseudonym)
- Mutual 90-day social media history required
- Background check via Checkr/Onfido
- Host must be Premium+ with 6+ months clean record
- One-tap “emergency report” button tied to 24/7 human moderation
- All meetups logged; users rate each other post-event (persistent safety score)
SAPPHIRE:
A Premium-only media format that replaces clickbait with actionable impact journalism. Every investigative or breaking-news post ends with a single, frictionless CTA that routes users directly into the product ecosystem (e.g., donate, volunteer, contact Congress, buy from mission-aligned brands), all powered by real-time, on-platform data.
Specific questions:
1. Which of these feel completely unfeasible and why?
2. Biggest regulatory or execution landmines I’m missing?
3. Would you actually use any of these as a user?
I have a total of 14 product concepts that together could generate $519M–$1.18B Annual Recurring Revenue at Year 5-6. I've grouped them into four phases that would be rolled out over a 6+ year period.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:
1. Product/developer feedback.
2. Connect with developers to create MVP.
3. Someone with a connection to X/Twitter to review/develop these products. (Don't have an MVP and was wondering if these can be pitched as concepts to an existing platform, such as X, for development/launch. My background is 10 years in marketings and I'd like to have a marketing role to develop this ecosystem for X).
Happy to answer questions or send a link to product summaries with more details.
Thanks in advance for the tips/advice/referrals.

My Car Is Becoming a Brick: EVs are poised to age like smartphones.
Cars used to be entirely mechanical objects. With hard work and expertise, basically any old vehicle could be restored and operated: On YouTube, you can watch a man drive a 1931 Alvis to McDonald’s. But the car itself was stuck in time. If the automaker added a feature to the following year’s model, you just didn’t get it. Things have changed. My Model 3 has few dials or buttons; nearly every feature is routed through the giant central touch screen. It’s not just Tesla: Many new cars—and especially electric cars—are now stuffed with software, receiving over-the-air updates to fix bugs, tweak performance, or add new functionality. In other words, your car is a lot like an iPhone (so much so that in the auto industry, describing EVs as “smartphones on wheels” has become a go-to cliché.) This has plenty of advantages—the improved navigation, the fart noises—but it also means that your car may become worse because the software is outdated, not because the parts break. Even top-of-the-line phones are destined to become obsolete—still able to perform the basic functions like phone calls and texts, but stuck with an old operating system and failing apps. The same struggle is now coming for cars.
Software-dependent cars are still new enough that it’s unclear how they will age. “It’s becoming the ethos of the industry that everyone’s promising a continually evolving car, and we don’t yet know how they’re going to pull that off,” Sean Tucker, a senior editor at Kelley Blue Book, told me. “Cars last longer than technology does.” The problem with cars as smartphones on wheels is that these two machines live and die on very different timescales. Many Americans trade in their phone every year and less than 30 percent keep an iPhone for longer than three years, but the average car on the road is nearly 13 years old. (Tesla didn’t respond to a request for comment about how its cars age.)

DOJ flouts court order on Trump’s illegally installed attorney
A judge ruled Lindsey Halligan was unconstitutionally appointed. Donald Trump’s team doesn’t care.
The Justice Department is still signing criminal indictments with Lindsey Halligan’s name—almost a day after a judge ruled that she was unlawfully appointed as interim U.S. attorney.
Federal prosecutors were initially instructed to sign court filings in the name of Halligan’s first assistant, after U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie concluded Monday that Halligan had no authority to preside over the Eastern District of Virginia since she was never confirmed by the U.S. Senate. But just an hour later, internal emails instructed the department to continue using Halligan’s name, labeling Currie’s decision “premature,” reported MS NOW’s Lisa Rubin.
The move is a flagrant violation of Currie’s court order, which threw out Donald Trump’s cases against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

A Global Message to Tik-Tok: Stop Your Profit Model of 'Toxic and Addictive' Content for Kids
cross-posted from: news.abolish.capital/post/9899
A group of digital activists is set to deliver a message to social media giant TikTok on Tuesday to clean up its "toxic and addictive" business model.
The petition, which has more than 170,000 signatures and is being circulated by human rights watchdog Amnesty International, will be delivered to TikTok's office in Dublin, Ireland by activists Mary Kate Harten and Trinity Kendi of Ireland; Abril Perazzini of Argentina; and Noe Hamon of France.
In the petition, Amnesty accuses TikTok of becoming "a space that is more and more toxic and addictive," and can potentially harm the "self-image, mental health, well-being of younger users."
Amnesty International campaigner Zahra Asif Razvi said that the petition is demanding that TikTok completely redo its business model to be built around user safety.
"These signatures represent a global demand for TikTok to replace its current business model of an app that is addictive by design with one that is safe by design," she said. "TikTok must make its platform safe for children and young people to socialize, learn and access information and not be harmed."
The human rights group says that its own research released last month shows that TikTok prioritizes user engagement over safety, and will often send young users to videos featuring "depression, self-harm and suicide content" on its platform.
Lisa Dittmer, Amnesty International's researcher on children and young people's digital rights, explained that teen users who express interest in content related to mental health can be pulled into "toxic rabbit holes" that glorify self-harm.
"Within just three to four hours of engaging with TikTok’s ‘For You’ feed, teenage test accounts were exposed to videos that romanticized suicide or showed young people expressing intentions to end their lives, including information on suicide methods," she explained. "The testimonies of young people and bereaved parents in France reveal how TikTok normalized and exacerbated self-harm and suicidal ideation up to the point of recommending content on 'suicide challenges.'"
Amnesty's petition comes one week after the American Psychological Association (APA) published research that accumulated data collected in more than 70 other studies and found that excessive use of short-form video apps such as TikTok and Instagram "is associated with poorer cognitive and mental health in both youths and adults."
The research's findings were particularly troublesome concerning the impacts on young people's cognitive development, as they found that "repeated exposure to highly stimulating, fast-paced content may contribute to habituation, in which users become desensitized to slower, more effortful cognitive tasks such as reading, problem solving, or deep learning."
The APA's study found that having the ability to swipe away from videos that don't offer instant gratification "could support a pattern of rapid disengagement from stimuli that do not provide immediate novelty or excitement," and thus "may diminish attentional control and reduce the capacity for sustained cognitive engagement, as cognitive processing becomes increasingly oriented toward brief, high-reward interactions rather than extended, goal-directed tasks."

Miami Dade College to hold new vote on presidential library, amid legal fight
Miami residents will have a chance to weigh in on Donald Trump’s plans to build a billion-dollar high-rise legacy project adjacent to the Freedom Tower after Miami Dade College’s Board of Trustees decided Tuesday to take a new, publicly noticed vote on transferring its land for the project.
The college’s attorneys had been fighting against a new hearing for the last two months in court, arguing that its original Sept. 23 vote to transfer the prime downtown property to the state was sufficiently publicized under Florida’s Sunshine Law.
Historian and activist Marvin Dunn has been suing the college, accusing the trustees’ of violating the state’s public transparency laws by not advertising what land it was voting on or its intended purpose as Trump’s presidential library.
“We won,” Dunn told the Miami Herald on Tuesday. “This is what we wanted them to do. Re-notice this and give the public a chance to appear and express our views, so we won. They caved.”
Supreme Court to consider federal courts’ role in asylum cases
On Monday, Dec. 1, in Urias-Orellana v. Bondi, the Supreme Court will consider the federal judiciary’s role in asylum cases as it weighs whether a federal court of appeals must defer to the Board of Immigration Appeals’ judgment on an asylum seeker’s claims of persecution when it reviews the individual’s case.
In their brief on the merits, the family urged the Supreme Court to side with the courts of appeals that have undertaken an independent review of “whether the mistreatment endured by a noncitizen meets the legal standard for ‘persecution,’” contending that, if lawmakers wanted to prevent such a review, they could have used “express language requiring deference” to the Board of Immigration Appeals, as they do for other “administrative decisions” concerning the INA. The family added that requiring such deference “would effectively resurrect” Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council – a 1984 case requiring courts to defer to federal agencies’ interpretations of ambiguous laws that the court overturned last year – “in asylum cases.”

Why Congress voted to ban hemp-derived THC in states like Texas
The move by Congress this month to clamp down on hemp-derived THC products was part of a years-long campaign to rein in the booming CBD and THC edibles business, which had made enemies not only of beer, liquor and marijuana companies, but of many within the hemp industry itself.
In order to prevent the sativa plants from which hemp is grown to be cultivated into marijuana, Congress set a limit saying no plant could contain more than 0.3% of delta-9 THC, the primary psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. What they didn't count on was scientists figuring out there were other psychoactive compounds in hemp plants that could be concentrated to produce a similar effect to marijuana, spawning a hemp boom across Texas and other states where marijuana had not been legalized.
"It’s a marketplace no one intended," acknowledged Heather Fazio, director of the Texas Cannabis Policy Center.

Republican US senator Jim Justice to pay $5m in back taxes following government lawsuit
The lawsuit, filed on Monday in federal court in their home state of West Virginia, maintained that the Justices had received notice from the US treasury department of the funds due since 2009 but had “neglected or refused to make full payment of those assessments”.
The suit demanded that Jim and Cathy Justice – a member of West Virginia’s state board of education – pay back the balance of nearly $5.2m along with any other relief that the court deemed “just and proper”.
A separate filing later on Monday said the US justice department had struck a settlement with the political couple, who agreed to satisfy the full amount “plus statutory interest and other additions to tax accruing thereafter”. The agreement was pending a judge’s approval.
