MSNBC Host: Trump’s Treasury Sec ‘Looking for an Exit Door’
Summary
MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle reported Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent may seek to exit the Trump administration after becoming the face of Trump's sweeping tariff rollout, which triggered a market plunge.
Bessent, a wealthy hedge fund veteran, reportedly opposes Trump’s "absurd tariff math" and has lost influence in the inner circle.
While Bessent urged restraint, China retaliated with a 34% tariff, worsening the selloff.
Ruhle noted investor support for the tariffs is virtually nonexistent, calling the economic strategy damaging and politically driven.

The US must return a Maryland man mistakenly deported to an El Salvador prison, a judge says
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A federal judge on Friday ordered the Trump administration to arrange for the return of a Maryland man to the United States after he was mistakenly deported to a notorious El Salvador prison, while a U.S. government attorney was at a loss to explain what happened.
The ruling rejected the White House’s claim that it lacks the power to retrieve Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national, because he is no longer in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has corrected deportation errors in previous years, according to Abrego Garcia’s attorney and legal experts.

Muslim scholars issue 'fatwa' calling for 'jihad' against Israel as strikes pummel Gaza
Several prominent Muslim scholars have issued a rare religious decree or "fatwa", calling on all Muslims and Muslim-majority countries to wage "jihad" against Israel after 17 months of devastating war against Palestinians residing in the besieged enclave.
Ali al-Qaradaghi, the secretary general of the International Union Of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), an organisation previously led by Yusuf al-Qaradawi, called on all Muslim countries on Friday “to intervene immediately militarily, economically and politically to stop this genocide and comprehensive destruction, in accordance with their mandate”.
“The failure of the Arab and Islamic governments to support Gaza while it is being destroyed is considered by Islamic law to be a major crime against our oppressed brothers in Gaza,” he said in the decree comprising some 15 points.
Qaradaghi is one of the region’s most respected religious authorities and his decrees carry significant weight among the world’s 1.7bn Sunni Muslims.

Harvard faculty organize amid anxiety university will capitulate to Trump
The day after the Trump administration announced a review of $9bn in federal contracts and grants with Harvard University due to what it claimed was the university’s failure to combat antisemitism on campus, the university’s president, Alan Garber, sent an email to the Harvard community titled: Our resolve.
“When we saw the Garber statement’s subject line, everybody thought: ‘Oh, great, Harvard’s going to stand up!” said Jane Sujen Bock, a board member of the Coalition for a Diverse Harvard, a group of alumni founded in 2016 amid a legal battle over affirmative action.
But the actual body of the message indicated no such thing. In the email, Garber briefly touted academic freedom while pledging to “engage” with the administration to “combat antisemitism”, which he said he had experienced directly, and listed a series of measures the university had already taken. “We still have much work to do,” he wrote. He offered no detail about what Harvard would do to protect its independence from the Trump administration.

US supreme court allows Trump administration to freeze teacher-training grants
The US supreme court is letting the Trump administration temporarily freeze $65m in teacher-training grants that would promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in a 5-4 decision.
The decision came down on Friday afternoon, with five of the court’s conservatives – Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Brett Kavanaugh – in the majority. Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson all dissented.
In the unsigned opinion, the court said that the states made it clear “that they have the financial wherewithal to keep their programs running”, but the Trump administration had a strong case that it would not be able to reclaim any of the funds spent while the lower court’s order remained in place.

How is it sudden?
Because there's speculation that AOC might run.
Trump won both times you tried running women as president.
Trump won both times we ran uninspiring centrist women for president. AOC is neither uninspiring nor centrist.
Your fellow countrymen are bigots, have you not noticed that yet?
The ones you want to impress certainly are.
You have 50mil eligible voters who haven't even registered. You have another 40 million registered voters that didn't bother to show.
I agree with you that AOC is the best bet America has for a better future. But the important thing is not getting the best outcome, the important thing is actually beating the Nazis.
Are you willing to bet the future of the free world that you are right? I simply don't have enough faith in the American people. You keep disappointing.

Obama breaks silence on Trump’s ‘unimaginable’ presidency
Summary
Barack Obama sharply criticized Donald Trump’s presidency during a speech at Hamilton College, condemning attacks on the press, immigration crackdowns, and threats to civil liberties.
He called it “unimaginable” that Trump’s actions—such as barring the AP and threatening law firms—would have been tolerated under past presidents.
Obama warned that Trump’s behavior, though “goofy,” poses real danger, and he labeled Trump a “wannabe dictator.”
He also referenced former Trump aide John Kelly's “fascist” remark and urged Americans not to mistake chaos for leadership.

REDMOND, Washington — A pro-Palestinian protester interrupts the keynote event of Microsoft’s 50th anniversary celebration, the latest backlash over the tech industry’s work to supply artificial intelligence technology to the Israeli military.
The protest happens as Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman presents product updates and a long-term vision for the company’s AI assistant product, Copilot, to an audience that includes Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and former CEO Steve Ballmer.
“Mustafa, shame on you,” shouts a woman in the audience. “You claim that you care about using AI for good but Microsoft sells AI weapons to the Israeli military.”
