Maybe I'm not super up to date on AI stuff, but I worked as a translator for a year, and AI (they used ChatGPT and DeepL) still made a bunch of mistakes that you'll immediately notice when you speak the language. It feels like their training input had a bunch of older, Google-translated articles in them that were just bad. Maybe an AI trained specifically for translation with curated learning material and a "teacher" who corrects mistakes can get closer to replacing human translators, but it'd still miss the cultural context of certain words and phrases that are in a translator's passive vocabulary, at least in less widely spread languages.
That being said, it's definitely harder to make a career out of translating because companies who don't know any better just use AI instead. As long as they get their point across (and make money), they don't care about the finer details.
Not to mention the other violations of the labor laws of my country.

It was the middle of the night when Zarin Gul realised that her daughter Nasrin had to get to the hospital as soon as possible. Her daughter’s husband was away working in Iran and the two women were alone with Nasrin’s seven children when Nasrin, heavily pregnant with her eighth child, began experiencing severe pains.
“I begged them, telling them my daughter was dying. I pleaded for their permission,” says Gul. “But they still refused. In desperation, I lied and said the rickshaw driver was my nephew and our guardian. Only then did they let us pass.”
By the time they reached the hospital it was too late. Nasrin’s baby had already died in her womb, and her uterus had ruptured. The doctors said Nasrin needed to be transferred to another hospital and so Gul helped her daughter into another rickshaw and they set off again, towards a government hospital an hour away. On their way they were stopped at two more Taliban checkpoints, each time detained for long periods because they were travelling alone.
They did finally reach the hospital, but Nasrin had not survived the journey. “The doctors told us that due to excessive bleeding and the ruptured uterus, both the baby and the mother had died,” says Gul. “We buried them side by side.”

Britain must allow US chlorine-washed chicken into UK markets if it wants relief from sweeping tariffs, Donald Trump has indicated.It comes after the UK failed to avoid tariffs imposed on the global economy, with the US president slapping a 10 per cent levies on all British exports to the United States.

In a statement published alongside the tariff announcement, the White House said: “The UK maintains non-science-based standards that severely restrict US exports of safe, high-quality beef and poultry products.”
It suggested that Britain’s ban on chlorinated chicken was among a range of “non-tariff barriers” that limit the US’s ability to trade.
The UK has long ruled out allowing imports of chlorine-washed chicken from the US due to health concerns, with Downing Street on Thursday reiterating its manifesto commitment to high food standards.
Asked whether the UK could allow imports of chlorine washed chicken in order to appease the US, the prime minister’s officials spokesperson said: “Our position on that is unchanged. You’ve got the manifesto commitment on food standards, which obviously remains.”

The last major polling done on the issue, conducted in 2020, revealed that 80 per cent of Britons are opposed to allowing imports to the UK, and the same proportion is also against allowing chicken products that have been farmed using hormones.
There is also growing pressure from the farming industry to rule out concessions on the issue, amid fears it could undercut British farmers and drive down food standards.

Ho un paio di appunti sull'articolo riguardo yacb, che a quanto vedo non viene aggiornato da un po':
Consigliare, nelle impostazioni dell'app, di spuntare l'opzione per aggiornare automaticamente il database, bloccare in base al punteggio e, importantissima, la modalità blocco chiamate avanzata se supportata dalla propria versione di android.
Da notare che Samsung (non so se anche altri) tolgono permessi ed autorizzazioni dalle app dopo che non vengono aperte per un po' di tempo. È meglio disabilitare questa impostazione per l'app, e si fa tenendo premuto sulla sua icona (nella home del telefono), premendo il tastino "info" e disabilitando la voce "rimuovi autorizzazione se app non è in uso"
Altra cosa, si possono valutare positivamente o negativamente i numeri che ci chiamano, premendo sul numero interessato all'interno del registro chiamate di yacb e selezionando "aggiungi recensione (web)" e compilando il form.
Sarebbe anche opportuno menzionare che l'app sia abbandonata, nonostante non sia un grosso problema visto il modo in cui opera.
Non so se per correttezza vada detto anche che per un periodo è stata segnalata come malevola da play protect, visto che era senza dubbio un falso positivo e metterebbe solo in cattiva luce l'app per un errore di google.

My First animation
I made a community thumbnail for !vaporents@lemmy.world a few days ago. I thought It would be a fun and creative project to make it animated.
Wow was it a lot of work! I didn't know anything about gif animations so I looked up a quick tutorial. I made two frames alternating and worked from there. The result is rough in places but im proud of it anyway. It took way more animations than I expected to get things smooth. I learned early on small changes between many frames make for a more smooth viewing experience. Also too many new lines at once looks jaring so it needs to be subtle movement in and out
