Trump administration plans to end the IRS Direct File program for free tax filing, AP sources say

The Trump administration plans to eliminate the IRS’ Direct File program, an electronic system for filing tax returns directly to the agency for free, according to two people familiar with the decision.

The program developed during Joe Biden’s presidency was credited by users with making tax filing easy, fast and economical.

But Republican lawmakers and commercial tax preparation companies complained it was a waste of taxpayer money because free filing programs already exist, although they are hard to use.

The inconsistent naming for insert row/columns in the German MS Office

So the names of the options literally translate to:

Row Above
Row insert beneath
Colums Left
Insert Column Right

Not only are they named inconsistently and only partially translated. The capitalization is also seemingly random.

Ok but the biggest crime was rebinding CTRL+S to underline in the Italian version. To save you had to CTRL+B (which doesn't even make sense)

Open Source AI Definition Erodes the Meaning of “Open Source”

The TLDR here, IMO is simply stated: the OSAID fails to require reproducibility by the public of the scientific process of building these systems, because the OSAID fails to place sufficient requirements on the licensing and public disclosure of training sets for so-called “Open Source” systems. The OSI refused to add this requirement because of a fundamental flaw in their process; they decided that “there was no point in publishing a definition that no existing AI system could currently meet”. This fundamental compromise undermined the community process, and amplified the role of stakeholders who would financially benefit from OSI's retroactive declaration that their systems are “open source”. The OSI should have refrained from publishing a definition yet, and instead labeled this document as ”recommendations” for now.

Putin praises Musk, compares him to Soviet space hero

Moscow (AFP) – Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Elon Musk on Wednesday, telling university students he was a pioneer comparable to legendary Soviet rocket engineer Sergei Korolev.

The comments came as Russia and the United States forged closer ties under President Donald Trump's administration, of which billionaire SpaceX founder Musk is a key figure.

"You know, there's a man -- he lives in the States -- Musk, who, you could say, raves about Mars," Putin told students on a visit to Bauman University, a Moscow college that specialises in science and engineering.

"These are the kind of people who don't often appear in the human population, charged-up with a certain idea."

"If it seems incredible even today, such ideas often come to fruition after a while. Just like the ideas of Korolev, our pioneers, came about in due time," Putin added.

Korolev is considered the father of the Soviet space programme, developing the first satellite Sputnik as well as Vostok 1, which carried first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin into orbit in 1961.

Musk, the world's richest man and Trump's most powerful advisor, is the head of SpaceX -- a US company that launches rockets for NASA and owns the Starlink satellite internet network.

Musk has been a frequent critic of Ukraine, which is currently battling a three-year Russian offensive.

The billionaire accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last month of wanting a "forever war", and in February said Kyiv had gone "too far" in the conflict.

Plia polemiko okazis kiam unu kandidato asertis, ke seksismo malhelpas ties kandidatiĝon. Fine du novaj estraranoj estis elektitaj.

Memo shows U.S. can send migrants without criminal records to Guantanamo, despite Trump's promise to hold "the worst" there

Migrants who overstayed a visa are not eligible to be sent to Guantanamo Bay, the document says. But if the nature of a migrant's entry is unclear, the memo allows officials to assume that the person paid a criminal group to enter the U.S. and to send them to Guantanamo if they hail from a nation "where the preponderance of aliens from that country enter the United States in that fashion."

Instead, the agreement, signed on March 7 by top DHS and Pentagon officials, says the departments agreed to use the Guantanamo base to detain migrants with final deportation orders who have "a nexus to a transnational criminal organization (TCO) or criminal drug activity."

Officials defined "nexus" in broad terms. A nexus can be satisfied, the memo says, if migrants with final deportation orders are part of a transnational criminal group or if they paid one "to be smuggled into the United States." The latter condition could be used to describe many of the migrants and asylum-seekers who have illegally crossed the U.S. southern border, as criminal groups in Mexico largely control the illicit movement of people and drugs there.

Good. Privacy is a fundamental right, but since that platform is regularly used to doxx people who are simply trying to exist, in addition to platforming and incubating some of the most harmful ideologies, they've relinquished any claims to those rights to privacy, as far as I'm concerned.
in reply to Telorand

The way you're describing it, it sounds more like you believe privacy is a privilege, not a right.
in reply to cygnus

lots of rights get modified, curtailed, or eliminated by the larger society based on misuse or misbehavior or other transgressions.

(or positions of power, etc...)

in reply to cygnus

You mean, people who operate a platform where people's privacy constantly gets violated should have a right to their own privacy?

I dunno. I understand your point, but @Telorand@reddthat.com is also kind of right.

Rights are unchangeable based on circumstances. They can never be revoked.

Privlivges can be.

Unknown parent

Exactly.
There is no such thing as rights in that context as we have seen governments take them and be force to relinquish them throughout history. Everything can be taken or revoked.

Inalienable rights are a pipe dream of idealistic, naive people who have never lived in the real world where these so-called Rights had be fought or died for.

Just look at the current state of the the UK, their PM proudly stated that 400 were arrested for posting shit online. WTF? In Germany a man was charged for calling a fat, obese politician 'fat.' The UK wants to become a nanny state, for your protection, you see. Same with Germany and others. They are literally and slowly coping the CCP police state model.

In the USA, in some States is now literally Illegal to NOT do business with Israel.
But you want to not do business with Canada or Mexico, then go right ahead. Nobody cares. Gee, I wonder who is funding these policians, AIPAC? Yes.
