More than 400 anti-Trump rallies planned in another wave of US protests
Organizers have called for 11 million people across country to participate this weekend in effort to ‘protect democracy’
The US will witness its second wave of protests in a fortnight on Saturday as organizers seek to turn discontent with Donald Trump’s presidency into a mass movement that will eventually translate into action at the ballot box.
More than 400 rallies are anticipated across the nation loosely organized by the group 50501, which stands for 50 protests in 50 states, one movement.
It is the fourth protest event to be staged by the group since Trump was inaugurated on 20 January. Previous events included a “No Kings Day” on President’s Day, 17 February, a theme adopted before Trump referred to himself as a king in a social media post days later.

So there's no coverage, and yet MILLIONS of people show up at hundreds of protests around the country? Somehow they heard about it.
This sounds like a YOU problem. Perhaps you should be a little more proactive and find the information you need, rather than waiting for the corporate mainstream media to spoon feed it to you. Shallow thinking like that is what got us here in the first place.
The most important thing is the "11 million."
Studies have shown that as little as 3.5% of the population can cause a "Tipping Point," and create a trend. America has a population of 335 million people, so 3.5% is just bit over 11 million. They are trying to reach a tipping point with just the protesters alone. For every protester, there are many more at home, posting on social media, talking to their family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc.

She's young, she could decide to run for Chuck's Senate seat in 2028. She would be just as compelling a Presidential candidate in 2032 or 2036....
.... But if a fair election is held in 2028, it is essential that Democtats field the best possible candidate, not just the next one up. (Hi, Gavin!) If AOC thinks that's her, then I will happily support that. If she supports someone else (Booker, Walz, etc), I will also be listening. But if we fuck this one up, and Vance or Eric Trump or Sean Hannity get elected, that might be game over for Democracy here. We may not get another chance.
As a NY State resident, I am eagerly looking forward to voting for AOC in some capacity in 2028, whether it's for Senator, VP, or President. I'll let her decide where she thinks she can create the most change.
I'd be happy to see an AOC/Buttigieg ticket in 2028.
Warren for sec of treasury. Walz for HUD or even better, cabinet level position in charge of figuring out the young man problem. He's representative of the role model a lot of young men are missing imho.
I don't wanna see another dem pres candidate that's older than me (mid 50s) EVER AGAIN. The problems my kids are facing aren't going to be fixed by old people, and while I'm not quite there yet, I'm fucking close enough.

They just need a candidate that can get 100m votes. Like it should not be hard in the age of stolen data to pick a person who can get 100m people off the couch. I don’t care what the Democrats like at this point. If we can’t figure out a candidate and policy that will invigorate 100,000,000 people we don’t even deserve to be running.
can you get 1/3 of the country to vote against fascism? challenge: impossible
We know the DNC leadership is interested more in keeping control of their half of the duopoly than winning elections.
They will never allow a leftist to run.
in charge of figuring out the young man problem
Both a great idea and one that will absolutely piss of the conservatives that are happy to see their young men embrace far right ideologies even if it comes with violent hatred in the process.
This was a great podcast episode that addresses the young men issue directly. Scott Galloway has been talking about it for a while.
At about 70 minutes, he states that the greatest innovation from the United States is the middle class, and he makes a good argument IMHO. He talks about how there were about seven million men that came back from World War II having proven themselves, with some confidence, and of course being in uniform doesn't hurt. They had opportunity for education, help with starting a career and affording a home, and all that made them attractive mates and led to the baby boom and the rise of the middle class. (I know it's an oversimplification, of course.)
Here's a fun conspiracy theory for you – what if somebody recognizes that sequence of events and thinks the best thing we could do would be to replicate it? If that was your goal, what would you do to make it happen, but with a twist to the far right?
I would support a cutoff for president at say 60 when starting office, that would keep us below 70 for a two-termer. That's plenty old enough.
Also the 18 year rolling term limit idea for SCOTUS.
You think that's the problem. Old people running? No, it's this lopsided old people majority that the baby boom brought. They could run, but no one would vote for them.
Until we die off and get out of the way, this isn't going to change.
I’d be happy to see an AOC/Buttigieg ticket in 2028.
I would fear for AOC's safety with Buttigieg as her VP. And not just because he's McKinsey. Because there are a lot of democrats that hate her and would consider Buttigieg an acceptable replacement.
I understand wishes, but let's be realistic.
Nearly half the voters went for Trump, even after everything from pussy grabbing to January 6.
If AOC god the nod, she'd have to have someone like Manchin as Veep.
I know the argument constantly rages - too left! Too centrist! and I don't know which one would be more effective.
On the other hand, the closest we've come to a real left candidate at least in my lifetime was Sanders and the thumb on the scale against him was pretty corporate blue - and the mainstream lost, so maybe we should try it the other way?

Senator says Bukele staged margaritas at Abrego Garcia meeting, wanted it by pool
The New York Times reported that one of Bukele’s aides planted the tropical-looking drinks on the table to make it look like Abrego Garcia was living large. Van Hollen confirmed this on Friday. “This is a lesson into the lengths that President Bukele will go to deceive people about what’s going on,” he said, “and it also shows the lengths that the Trump administration and the president will go to, because when he was asked … about this, he just went along for the ride.”
Van Hollen added that Bukele’s government wanted the meeting to take place by a pool: “They actually wanted to have the meeting [take place] by the side of the pool in the hotel,” he said. “This is a guy who’s been in CECOT. This is a guy who has been detained. They want to create this appearance that life was just lovely for Kilmar, which, of course, is a big fat lie.”

When Mr. Garcia gets back to the US take his family and put them in safety in another country - Canada, Europe, so long as they're far from El Salvador or Trump. Political asylum anywhere safe, since he can be considered now a person of interest to those wanting to upkeep democracy, and a danger to those undermining it.
I'm sure there's plenty of people sympathetic to this cause and wanting Mr. Garcia to be able to freely speak without fear about what he's endured.

All it takes is for Bukele to change his tune. Which he has, already once.
The pressure campaigns are working. Do not give up on this man.
Oh sorry, you are correct.
He was moved from CECOT to a different El Salvadoran hellhole, then paraded to a photo op at a hotel which Bukale later made a joke about on social media.

US: Palantir expanding immigrant surveillance tools for ICE to the tune of $30m
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as ICE, has just signed an additional deal with Palantir Technologies worth $30m to track immigrants accused of violent crime, but also those who have overstayed their visas, Business Insider reported on Thursday.
Palantir's expanded and refined surveillance tools are also meant to help ICE keep an eye on those who "self-deport", which is something the Department of Homeland Security has been asking certain immigrants to do to avoid being forcibly - and sometimes very publicly - removed.
The new software, dubbed "ImmigrationOS" according to Business Insider's review of the contract, will save "time and resource expenditure" when locating and arresting immigrants, and bring together all the data needed for "end to end immigration lifecycle from identification to removal".

Yawn
Wake me up if they figure out how to make this cheap enough to put in a normal person's server.
You can get a Coral TPU for 40 bucks or so.
You can get an AMD APU with a NN-inference-optimized tile for under 200.
Training can be done with any relatively modern GPU, with varying efficiency and capacity depending on how much you want to spend.
What price point are you trying to hit?
What price point are you trying to hit?
With regards to AI?. None tbh.
With this super fast storage I have other cool ideas but I don't think I can get enough bandwidth to saturate it.
You’re willing to pay $none to have hardware ML support for local training and inference?
Well, I’ll just say that you’re gonna get what you pay for.
With regards to AI?. None tbh.
TBH, that might be enough. Stuff like SDXL runs on 4G cards (the trick is using ComfyUI, like 5-10s/it), smaller LLMs reportedly too (haven't tried, not interested). And the reason I'm eyeing a 9070 XT isn't AI it's finally upgrading my GPU, still would be a massive fucking boost for AI workloads.
normal person’s server.
I’m pretty sure I speak for the majority of normal people, but we don’t have servers.
Does flash, like solid state drives, have the same lifespan in terms of write? If so, it feels like this would most certainly not be useful for AI, as that use case would involve doing billions/trillions of writes in a very short span of time.
Edit: It looks like they do: enterprisestorageforum.com/har…
Manufacturers say to expect flash drives to last about 10 years based on average use. But life expectancy can be cut short by defects in the manufacturing process, the quality of the materials used, and how the drive connects to the device, leading to wide variations. Depending on the manufacturing quality, flash memory can withstand between 10,000 and a million [program/erase] cycles.
Life Expectancy of a Drive: HDD, SSD, and Flash

Oh I agree, but the speeds in the article are much faster than any current volatile memory. So it could theoretically be used to vastly expand memory availability for accelerators/TPUs/etc for their onboard memory.
I guess if they can replicate these speeds in volatile memory and increase the buses to handle it, then they'd be really onto something here for numerous use cases.

Brother, have you heard of buses? Even INSIDE cpus/socs bus speeds are a limitation. Also i fucking hate how the first thing people mention now is how ai could benefit from a jump in computing power.
Edit: I havent dabbled that much in high speed stuff yet but isnt the picosecond range so fast that the capacitance of simple traces and connectors between chips influence the rising and falling edge of chips?
That's pretty much my understanding. Most of the advancements happened in memory speeds are related to the physical proximity of the memory and more efficient transmission/decoding.
GDDR7 chips for example are packed as close as physically possible to the GPU die, and have insane read speeds of 28 Gbps/pin (and a 5090 has a 512-bit bus). Most of the limitation is the connection between GPU and RAM, so speeding up the chips internally 1000x won't have a noticeable impact without also improving the memory bus.
China and Russia worked very hard to get these rich stupid people in power.
It really started in 2016 when US security agencies released a joint report showing Russia was spreading misinformation to help Trump win the election.

This seems unrealistically convoluted, to the level of someone who's just looking for evidence of a conspiracy. A gang symbol is a bit rubbish if you need a cryptography manual to identify it. The whole point of a gang symbol is to advertise that you belong to the gang.
You could probably find a trifecta of 3s and link him to the Illuminati if you tried hard enough.

Diseases occur naturally, new diseases occur naturally. We know the first cases were in Wuhan China. There are a number of theories on how "patient 0" became infected. (Bat to human transfer, lab grown, pig to human, other dead animal to human) But patient 0 is not even known, early COVID spread extremely fast and a source cannot be pinpointed. Knowing the exact source could help with prevention of future new diseases (shutting down wet markets or closing labs). But with the speed of the spread, death rate, and chaos it brought, it will likely never be known.
"Will someone pay." Without knowing an exact source we don't know if a human is at fault or if there was just the perfect storm of natural events. mRNA vaccines are a new technology that was fast tracked thanks to COVID. As a society we will benefit from its ability to develop new vaccines faster. Many nations/regions were forced to reevaluate their disaster relief plans because of COVID. If a future event occurs the lessons learned from COVID should help mitigate.

In other words, I'm glad Harvard is resisting. But this is yet another example of rich-man-can-do.
Drusas likes this.

You’re not wrong that the money helps but someone also has to do the convincing part. They both help.

I don’t think doomerism like this does anything but demoralize. It’s better than them going along with the bullshit. It’s gotta start somewhere, and it’s going to start with those who have the resources to resist.

Good for Harvard leadership.
