Despair in Gaza as Israeli aid blockade creates crisis ‘unmatched in severity’

"…Israel appears confident that it can maintain the siege with little international pushback.

It is also moving ahead with large-scale seizures of #Palestinian land for security buffer zones, and plans to shift control of aid delivery to the army and private contractors, exacerbating fears in #Gaza that #Israel intends to maintain boots on the ground in the territory long-term and permanently displace its residents."

MAGA goes into full meltdown mode over SCOTUS ruling on deportations

Summary

The MAGA cinematic universe has gone into full meltdown after the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s latest deportation push.

The ruling halted deportations that rely on the Alien Enemies Act—in a stunning 7-2 decision. “The Supreme Court would rather actively participate in America’s ruination,” wrote DHS liaison Paul Ingrassia.

“We live in a society where foreign alien terrorists have unlimited free legal representation,” Stephen Miller posted.

Tom Fitton suggested Trump suspend habeas corpus to “reverse the Biden invasion.” “Who will compensate the American people for the lasting damage?” Rep. Mary Miller asked.

French journalists stage die-in to protest Israel’s killing of reporters in Gaza

By Bilge Kotan in Paris

“We support and protect, through our presence, our Palestinian colleagues who demonstrate unmatched courage in sending us images and testimonies of the immense tragedy unfolding in Gaza.”

Media professionals from at least 36 publications, including Agence France-Presse (AFP), Radio France, Mediapart, Arte and BFM TV, participated in the die-in, alongside some freelance journalists.

Journalist organisations, including the European Federation of Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists, supported the protest.

Pope sends deputy to lecture Vance on compassion at Vatican

Summary

Pope Francis skipped the Vatican’s official meeting with J.D. Vance Saturday, instead having his No. 2 give the vice president a lecture on compassion, according to a Vatican statement.

The statement said there was “an exchange of opinions on the international situation… with particular attention to migrants, refugees, and prisoners.”

Pope Francis has repeatedly rebuked the president’s mass deportation effort, calling it a “disgrace” and a “grave sin.”

The Pope corrected a Catholic concept Vance had invoked to defend the administration’s deportations, ordo amoris (order of love). In a February letter, Francis pointedly explained, “Christian love is not a concentric expansion of interests that little by little extend to other persons and groups.”

Catholics make up only about 25% of the US population. US Americans also seem to have their own flavor of Christianity, where being nasty and cruel to your neighbor and killing everything you don't like weirdly is part of their beliefs.
in reply to RedstoneValley

Oh, the nasty and cruel ones are the "good Christians." Haven't you heard?
in reply to RedstoneValley

I don’t know about that. Christians, particularly the Catholic Church have a long history persecution. The Albigensian Crusade was against European Christian “Cathars”. When the Crusade to the “Holy Land” kicked off, the first thing they did was march through Germany murdering Jews. The Inquisition, the slaughter and enslavement of American natives, those were all Europeans.

Trump posted a photo of Abrego Garcia’s hand with an MS-13 knuckle tattoo. Internet sleuths say it’s photoshopped

Summary

Trump reportedly held up a digitally altered image of the hand of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was deported by the Trump administration, in an attempt to prove Garcia is a gang member.

Trump can be seen holding a printed-out photo... demonstrating that "MS-13" is tattooed across his knuckles.

"This is the hand of the man that the Democrats feel should be brought back," Trump posted. However, many have pointed out that the image appears photoshopped.

"MS-13 looks like it was typed on the photo." "Needing to have a photo doctored... is definitely something a psychopath would do."

Some FDA employees have been working on a possible shift of the agency's routine food efforts to states for years, one current and one former official said, which could free up resources to focus on higher priority and foreign inspections. The FDA already outsources some routine food inspections through contracts with 43 states and Puerto Rico.

Interesting, so this isn’t just a Trump thing? And the plan hasn’t to end testing food, rather to shift who is testing it.

It's always someone else's fault except their ineptitude in governing.

This POS gave us Biden when we could have had Bernie, he needs to sit down and shut the fuck up

in reply to inclementimmigrant

Give Clyburn some credit, he's never missed a pro-israel vote, and he was absolutely instrumental in winning Biden the 2024 primary. He convinced black voters to stick with Biden, despite Bidens lack of interest in justice or civil rights, and his response to defund being to increase police funding. Thats pretty impressive. Its not every day that a politician can put on a compelling show to convince people to vote against their own interests.

in reply to Phoenixz

Do you really want our population doubled that quickly? Keep in mind 50% of our country would now basically be Americans.

No thanks.

in reply to PlaidBaron

Yeah people keep saying California should be a province of Canada which is ridiculous. Why not suggest something that's plausible?

California should be it's own country. It's got a higher population than Canada and a much larger economy. They'd no longer need to continue subsidizing states that are happy when the guy they put into power denies them emergency aid in a disaster. They could have their own emergency relief fund they'd administer themselves, and they could set their own immigration policy.

in reply to PlaidBaron

Hell I'd be open to an EU style organization between Canada, California, and any other state that secedes because they prefer democracy over fascism.

It's funny that Trump says Canada isn't a viable country because he's making the USA into non-viable country. The hatred in the red states towards states like California was kinda there already, but he's just fanning those flames. It seems various regions of the US are forming into distinct cultures with very different values. Maybe the US is just too big to be sustainable.

One of the impressive things about chips ever since the 70's, is how they've become ever denser and ever more powerful, so they are now more than 50 ~~thousand~~ million times more complex, going from little more than a thousands, to 50 billion transistors as per 5 years ago! Yet modern chips remain very reliable, and the biggest vulnerability is not inherent, but from targeted hostile attacks against them.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transist…

It's almost as if the industry knows very well what they are doing.

The headline is moronic, but of course the progress of chips will slow down, and heat is one of the factors.

Questa voce è stata modificata (8 mesi fa)
in reply to Buffalox

Yeah... chip designers have been battling heat output since silicon doping was invented. The main source of heat is transistors changing state, since it doesn't happen instantly, and will disipate more heat when half-on, acting almost like a resistor.
The higher the clock speed, the more time a transistor spends half-on. This is why things like undervolting and underclocking reduce power usage.
Physically smaller transistors usually also means it takes less electrons to saturate the gate, so it allows lower voltages and currents to be used, while still toggling the state at the same speed. (Not to mention timing gets easier the closer the transistors are to each other)

Which is also why thermal limit has gone up, and they they introduced throttling and such. It's like they're aware of the problem and working on it... but that wouldn't make a nice article.

Yes absolutely, I don't know how they do it, but I remember BIOS shutting off the computer if the CPU was 60° C. Now many chips can handle above 100° C.

Right, but that's like a few % of total production which are made outside of China. And there isn't an easy way to scale it too even in medium term as those countries just lack skilled labour for that level of production.
