Dà potere all'utente.
Reddit taking down multiple of my piracy related posts
I posted an updated guide on r/Adobe Zii a bit ago. It got taken down last week and I re-posted it here: lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/43935446 Super grateful that this community exists. I posted to r/Adobe Zii that my guide was taken down and warning that it looks like reddit is cracking down on piracy (I am guessing an Adobe spokesperson is abusing reddit's copyright reporting system). Now today reddit emails me saying that I received another copyright warning for posting that my other post was removed: reddit.com/r/AdobeZii/comments…
I decide hey lets try and appeal as there was not any copyrighted material in my post about my guide being removed. Turns out they want my full name, address, and other identifying info to send to the copyright complainant. Not doing that.
Just disappointed as I've actively used reddit for years and love all the communities on this place. Seems like its slowly going down hill. Guess I should have seen that coming with the whole API shenanigans last year.
TL;DR reddit sucks and it does not appear any way to appeal without giving Adobe my info

Was ist arXiv?
„The arXiv mirror network served a role – acting as a backup for the corpus, allowing some degree of load distribution, and providing improved access for users who were geographically closer to a mirror – that is no longer necessary. arXiv now has multiple backups for the arXiv corpus in place, and the Fastly CDN (Content Delivery Network) that we use to deliver content provides excellent service throughout the world.“

Newark airport had three air traffic controllers on duty instead of 14
In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it “briefly slowed aircraft in and out of the airport while we ensured redundancies were working as designed.
“Operations have returned to normal.’’
That came after Duffy announced plans to reduce the number of flights arriving and departing from Newark for the “next several weeks” and would meet with the airport’s major carriers to discuss the issues. Flight reductions, he said, would target the hours when international flights arrive.
Duffy said he wanted to raise the mandatory retirement age for air traffic controllers from 56 to 61, to help offset a shortage of about 3,000 air traffic controllers. After the first Newark failure, on 28 April, the union representing air traffic controllers said several members were placed on trauma leave.
“While we cannot quickly replace them due to this highly specialized profession, we continue to train controllers who will eventually be assigned to this busy airspace,” the FAA said earlier in May.

Automatic category/community assignment on received object
I'm wondering how content on threadiverse is automatically assigned its community when received by the software (e.g. PieFed, Lemmy, Mbin).
The answer I am expecting is "if the community is addressed (to
, cc
, audience
), then it is slotted into that community".
However that causes issues for compatibility with microblogs... for example, silverpill@mitra.social recently authored a post that mentioned [swf@socialwebfoundation.org](https://community.nodebb.org/category/swf@socialwebfoundation.org)
and it got slotted into that community on NodeBB, which isn't correct since that group is private.
Better practice would be to only trust the addressed community if it is Announce
'd by the community directly, but would fall short if my instance does not receive the Announce
(say, if nobody follows the community), in which case we'd fall back to "uncategorized", which is where all microblog posts currently go. Then it's neither correct nor incorrect, I suppose.
I think this might be an issue where NodeBB tries to be too many things at once (microblog and threadiverse compatible).

Does NodeBB support creating new topics by mentioning a group/category?
I wonder how context
should be assigned in this case.
Re: Automatic category/community assignment on received object
If I create a topic this way, I will be the owner of the context
collection. But if the conversation is to be moderated, it should be owned by the group.
Am I correct?
(there is a parallel discussion happening at codeberg.org/streams/streams/i…)
How to post to a group from another server?
I want to create a post in [rfc9421](https://fediversity.site/channel/rfc9421) group. Could it be done from a non-streams server? I tried to do it by addressing the group, but the post didn't appear at fediversity.site: https://mitra.Codeberg.org
Re: Automatic category/community assignment on received object
I suppose you're right in a way. The context owner is not supposed to be set by someone other than the context owner. It's a fallback mechanism intended for better compatibility with Mastodon.
When a group is addressed and it is one of the local NodeBB categories, it will assume control
If it is another group that it knows about but isn't same origin to the author, then no category is assumed.

Can a Discourse user create a topic in NodeBB category?
Who creates/owns the context collection in this case?
like this
Is there or should there be a distinction between the original and the mirrors?
We have a conversation owner at the thread level (which is either the forum, subforum, forum category, or person who created the top level post, depending on the software). They determine the official moderated version of the thread since they can remove comments (although mirrors don't have to honor that).
If we show that conversation on another server, technically that is a mirror of that thread, especially if you are throwing it in a category or displaying it under a hashtag.
Should we be indicating that a particular thread was started on a particular forum (or category within a forum)? Should we be honoring the moderated version of the conversation from the original thread?
The concept of mirroring threads across platforms is great for participation and censorship resistance, but it does make it unclear about who owns the thread from a moderation perspective.
They all kind of look like dickheads ngl. Like that annoying kid who always breaks boundaries.

Multiple Western Press Outlets Have Suddenly Pivoted Hard Against Israel
After a year and a half of genocidal atrocities, the editorial boards of numerous British press outlets have suddenly come out hard against Israel’s genocidal onslaught in Gaza.
The first drop of rain came last week from The Financial Times in a piece by the editorial board titled “The west’s shameful silence on Gaza,” which denounces the US and Europe for having “issued barely a word of condemnation” of their ally’s criminality, Then came The Economist with a piece titled “The war in Gaza must end,” which argues that Trump should pressure the Netanyahu regime for a ceasefire.
It is odd that it has taken all these people a year and a half to get to this point. I myself have a much lower tolerance for genocide and the mass murder of children. If you’ve been riding the genocide train for nineteen months, it looks a bit weird to suddenly start screaming about how terrible it is and demanding to hit the brakes all of a sudden.
These people have not suddenly evolved a conscience, they’re just smelling what’s in the wind. Once the consensus shifts past a certain point there’s naturally going to be a mad rush to avoid being among the last to stand against it.
This is after all coming at a time when the Trump administration is beginning to rub Netanyahu’s fur the wrong way, recently prompting the Israeli prime minister to say “I think we’ll have to detox from US security assistance” when Washington went over Tel Aviv’s head and negotiated directly with Hamas to secure the release of an American hostage. The US is reportedly leaving Israel out of more and more of its negotiations on international affairs in places like Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. Something is changing.
So if you’re still supporting Israel after all this time, my advice to you is to make a change while you still can. There’s still time to be the first among scoundrels in the mad rat race to avoid being the last to start acting like you always opposed the Gaza holocaust.

The average social media user just doesn't care. They want things to work from their perspective, and it doesn't matter how much data they give up, or privacy they lose, or any other thing that might be a negative to us that engage in the internet outside of "apps".
IMO, this is a pro and not a con of federated social media, and means that your discussions will be smarter on average. Sometimes, I feel sad that the days of free (as in freedom) internet is seemingly gone, before I remember that you just have to look a little deeper, and it's definitely still there.

In order to grow unbounded, you have to cater for the kinds of users that you described - no self-respect and no awareness of the platform that they're using. The kinds of people that will happily let themselves be abused by technocrats like Mark Zuckerberg or whatever Reddit's CEO is.
Is that the kind of average user that we want on Lemmy? Hell no! If that means that we can never have more than 1 million monthly users, then so be it. Quality over quantity. Reddit has plenty of quantity, but garbage-tier quality.

And a subreddit having a Discord doesn't really guarantee much aside from having the same mods in charge. The userbase is invariably going to be different and may not have the same "vibe" as the subreddit. It's not really as simple as you're trying to make it out, which makes the idea of jumping off one shitty corporatized platform to another extremely unappealing.
I also don't use social media enough or have enough free time to bother attempting to form and moderate my own community, so as much as I dislike Reddit I'm content just waiting it out for something that isn't just another lame Discord server to pop-up here or elsewhere.

All I ever said was that Discord is a poor replacement and I'm reasonably content to stick with Reddit until something substantial forms here or somewhere besides Discord. I'm not obligated to form a community and just because you call me lazy and sling insults at me for that choice doesn't really change my mind on the matter, it just makes you look childish.
You're the one getting worked up, and simply for my refuting Discord as a good replacement.
Grow up.

I still can't tell how we ended up here but I am guessing they dont care for the customer, just for its data.

All content should be posted on fedi to seed the future of social media imho

But, Lemmy is extremely political with fuckall else outside of reposted memes and selfhosting nerds, so we don't really fit the bill for Reddit's normies until they're all ready to come aboard, not that they ever will.

But I guess it's okay, because I am getting the stuff which Reddit won't allow so it would be like a cool shadow community.
By the way, how do you think censorship work on Lemmy? I don't have any idea if they can block stuff, like a lot of users are on Lemm.me or Lemmy.world so there mods can control a lot of posts I guess

in reply to dark_phoenix • • •Servers can censors you which but generally clown mods in big communities do it.
It doesn't really matter since getting banned by some shiti community for content censorship, just move to another place community.
This is the key benefit of federation, no single actor can cut another person from expressing itself on fedi, just their little fiefdom

in reply to Vanilla_PuddinFudge • • •Skill issue.
And yet, post the information on Lemmy anyway. The normies will either find it when someone on Reddit comments that they saw it on Lemmy ("talking about X" is not copyrightable), or they'll find it on Google when it starts indexing Lemmy.
Excuse me we have original memes here! Also cat pictures.
