Right-wing opposition candidate Nawrocki wins Polish presidential election
Right-wing opposition presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki has won Poland’s presidential election, official results show. With 100% of districts having reported results, Nawrocki won 50.89% of the vote against 49.11% for his centrist, government-aligned rival, Rafał Trzaskowski.
Turnout stood at 71.63%, which is a record for a Polish presidential election, beating the 68.23% seen in 1995. It is also the second-highest turnout among all post-1989 Polish elections, behind only the 74.38% at the 2023 parliamentary election.
The outcome represents a remarkable victory for Nawrocki, a political novice who had never previously stood for elected office and trailed Trzaskowski in the polls for virtually the entire campaign. It will also have a huge influence on how Poland is governed during his five-year term.
Trzaskowski, who is deputy leader of Poland’s main ruling party, the centrist Civic Platform (PO), would have worked closely with the ruling coalition of PO Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
However, Nawrocki, technically an independent but whose candidacy was supported by the national-conservative opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, is likely to wield his veto and other presidential powers to stymie the government’s agenda, just as the current PiS-aligned incumbent Andrzej Duda has done.
Trzaskowski, a multilingual former minister for European affairs and member of the European Parliament, would also have favoured closer relations with Brussels while Nawrocki – who was endorsed by the Trump administration during the campaign – is a eurosceptic who favours strong ties with Washington.
Sunday’s run-off vote came two weeks after Trzaskowski and Nawrocki had emerged as the top two candidates among 13 who stood in the first round two weeks earlier.
The initial exit poll, published immediately as voting ended at 9 p.m., placed Trzaskowski narrowly ahead, on 50.3%. However, with a margin of error of around 2 percentage points, that poll made the result too close to call.
Updated versions of the exit poll published later on Sunday and in the early hours of Monday – which also included the first official results as they began to filter through – showed a reversal of the situation, with Nawrocki now leading on 50.7%. That led many analysts to call the win for Nawrocki.
Among the first to congratulate Nawrocki on Monday morning was Duda, whose second and final term in office ends in August this year.
“It was a difficult, sometimes painful, but incredibly courageous fight for Poland, for how the affairs of our homeland are to be conducted,” wrote Duda, who endorsed Nawrocki during the campaign. “Thank you for this heroic fight until the last minute…Thank you…for the victory! Bravo!”
Duda, who himself defeated Trzaskowski at the 2020 presidential election, also thanked the losing candidate for his “determination in the fight for the presidency…[and] willingness to take responsibility for Poland”.
Neither Nawrocki nor Trzaskowski have yet commented on the result, but the first foreign leader to issue congratulations to Nawrocki was Petr Pavel, president of the neighbouring Czech Republic.
“I believe that, under his leadership, Poland will continue to develop its democratic and pro-Western direction and that our countries will continue their mutually beneficial cooperation,” wrote Pavel.
The final election results must also be confirmed by the Supreme Court’s chamber of extraordinary review and public affairs.
However, that process is shrouded in controversy because the chamber – which was created as part of the PiS party’s judicial reforms when it was in power – is regarded as illegitimate by Tusk’s government.

Sunday’s run-off vote comes at the end of a months-long campaign that has seen the interrelated issues of security and migration at the forefront.
The war in neighbouring Ukraine has seen both candidates pledge to continue efforts to bolster Poland’s defence capabilities through expansion and modernisation of the armed forces.
Nawrocki, however, has taken a much tougher line regarding Ukraine itself, including signing a pledge not to ratify its accession to NATO if he becomes president. Tusk, as well as Ukraine’s ambassador to Poland, criticised that decision, saying that it echoed Russian demands.
Both candidates have also pledged to clamp down on immigration and on the support given to immigrants already in Poland, though again Nawrocki has taken tougher positions.
Trzaskowski, meanwhile, has pledged that, if he were to become president, he would seek to sign bills liberalising the abortion law, introducing same-sex civil partnerships and undoing PiS’s judicial reforms.
Nawrocki, by contrast, holds deeply conservative views on social issues and has pledged not to sign any bills ending the current near-total ban on abortion.
During the final stages of the campaign, Nawrocki was hit by a series of scandals. It came to light that he had lied about only having one apartment. Not only did he own a second, but various questions came to light over how he had come to possess it and how he treated the elderly, disabled man living there.
Subsequently, a leading news website, Onet, reported that Nawrocki had helped procure prostitutes for guests at a luxury hotel where he worked as a security guard. Nawrocki denied the claims – based on testimony by anonymous former colleagues – and pledged to sue Onet.
Meanwhile, Trzaskowski faced questions after it emerged that hundreds of thousands of zloty had been spent on Facebook adverts supporting him and attacking Nawrocki.
The provenance of that money remains unclear, but there is a chance it came from abroad, which would be illegal under Polish election law. Trzaskowski has insisted that he and his staff had no involvement in or knowledge of the campaign.

The GrapheneOS team is very aware of their dependence on google. They are planning to either find an OEM for their own line of hardware or a brand whose phones support their requirements other than google. That being said, it will complicate work a lot, but for now it would be to early to jump to that conclusion.
Also, Google couldn't care less if <1% of buyers flash a custom ROM / OS on their phone, this is about tying the android ecosystem closer to google in general. Most other big phone manufacturers know this and are trying to come up with their own solution, like Huawei had to because of the ban when the orange man has been president the first time.

Wasn't Graphene's "selling point" for long being that nothing but Pixels can match their reqs? I don't see why any current band would want to make it easier for them, and I also don't see new brand significantly entering the market.

This is not a selling point but rather a unfortunate but comprehensible circumstance. Nexus and later Pixel phones have not been anything more than reference hardware without significant sales until the Pixel 6. Google has been a software company that has greatly benefited by android being an "open" platform you could contribute to and use their services on.
The App / Cloud ecosystem has gained a lot of competitors, so Google is doing their best to reverse this course of action by pulling more and more functionality out of AOSP into Play services and now into Cuttlefish. We can only wait and see how other phone manufacturers react to this.

The absolutely criminal dark patterns that they pull on people via Google photos auto backup is insane.
Just in my own orbit 2 of my friends wives, my parents, and my in-laws all wound up paying Google because they thought they had to or lose all their photos. We helped most of them disconnect the autobackup (that they didn't even know was activated) and move it to offline safely. But that was the most downright evil shit Google has ever done and literally a fire in me for manipulating the elderly and less tech savvy so blatantly.
devil's avocado: this move has saved many people's cherished photos from disappearing by having them auto save. before Google photos I'd run into cases (I used to do home IT support) where people had years of family photos disappear because they didn't back them up properly. Having to communicate what happened was never fun.
is Google photos perfect? No, but it's a great solution for people who don't want to manage their data.

Yup, the entire culture of Google has nearly changed. It used to be coder- and innovation-driven, and open-source was a natural thing to support. Make more money by growing the pie, creating markets with new tech.
Now it seems it's middle managers and MBAs calling the shots, and their strategy is generic business zero-sum mindset - lock down, restrict, extract. They still see the PR value in open-source, but that's it.
Just becoming 1990s Microsoft or 1980s IBM.

This war has already changed the face of warfare forever because of the drones.
But all those drones used on these frontlines are just "dumb" ones, individually operated remotely.
I assume USA (and possibly other players) are working HARD on creating autonomous swarms of these things. Being able to C&C these without a single point of failure is THE future in modern warfare. The first nation that gets this working flawlessly wins supremacy.

Unfortunately that’s already a reality in Gaza. They use AI powered quadcopters murdering civilians there. There have been reports that they would even play recordings of cries for help etc. to lure people out and then shoot them.
Now imagine where this is headed. Genocide drones will be equipped with heat sensors and trained to enter flats through windows and they’ll be instructed to kill any human they can find. It’s only a matter of time at this point because what we are afraid of is already in use, we’re just not at the receiving end of it (yet).

Direct residential entry for mass genocide remains unlikely, they're too vulnerable at close range for this to be efficient at scale. The technology can't overcome the need for lightweight assembly and will always be susceptible to a good swing from a baseball bat. This will only be used for high value targets or as a last resort while withdrawing from an area.
In urban environments they're much more likely to just blanket the area with surveillance and slaughter people in line of sight from the air, then starve the sheltering population out like a modern siege. Like what's literally happening in Gaza right now. It's far more efficient in terms of ammunition, manufacturing, and psychological warfare.
But I absolutely agree. War is still Hell, but it sure is fucking changing. We're running out of time before this asymmetry becomes mainstream and groups and leaders that are willing to deploy this technology become the only ones left.
It will still be MAD for nations to use these - as evidenced by the fact that a wartorn underdog can covertly assault a distant air field - but without major global collaboration it will be impossible to stop because unlike nuclear ICBMs these things can be built in a basement and deployed from a shed.
Imagine this a long term autonomous aerial platform (high altitude blimp) you can nest drones on or bring them in for rearming.
Each platform would be equipped with 360 degree optics with additional dedicated sensor instruments.
You see a problem you release a drone or a swarm; new drones are flown up fully armed or the blimp can come in for servicing at a military base 100kms away from the hot zone.
This is tech being developed and fully within our ability to build now

GPS and similar systems are extremely low power, meaning it’s trivial to jam them with a higher powered signal closer to potential targets. And you can easily counter multiple navigation systems by broadcasting over a wide range of frequencies.
Much better to augment radio navigation with inertial navigation, terrain mapping, etc.

Tough. I remember checking exit polls yesterday and Trzaskowski was in the lead, just to lose it in the late poll 2 hours later.
I'm not entirely sure what enticed people to vote for Nawrocki. Did they fear the majority having absolute power? We've seen the questionable tactics they used to take back the national TV from PiS. I haven't really followed polish politics since then.
The frustrating part is that the populace doesn’t seem to remember all of the other “questionable tactics” PiS used for a lot of other things.

Yeah he can veto and has to appoint ambassadors. The previous president didn't do that out of spite, so we were unable to recall people who should've been fired. They sent out people who aren't ambassadors technically, but fulfill that role.

Tens of thousands of people killed and attacks on schools and hospitals had apparently not been enough. But, along with the blocking of humanitarian aid and open calls for ethnic cleansing, Israel’s actions finally became too severe to ignore, deny or justify. In recent weeks, a cascade of unusually strong statements, diplomatic rebukes and threats of sanctions has emerged from European capitals – each move amplifying the next, as if a long-dormant herd has suddenly jolted into motion.
Among these developments, the most significant may be the possible suspension of the EU-Israel association agreement, which grants Israel preferential access to the world’s largest single market. Last month, the Dutch foreign minister, Caspar Veldkamp, broke the EU’s silence with a letter demanding a formal review of Israel’s compliance with article 2 of the agreement, which requires it to “respect human rights”.
That move triggered a wave of other EU states lining up behind the idea. At the 20 May meeting of EU foreign ministers, a clear majority – 17 member states – backed the Dutch proposal. EU foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, who had appeared sceptical ahead of the meeting, seemed to shift during the discussion and at the end clearly announced the launch of the review.

Mind you, Israel bought the current British Government by having Israeli-linked Jewish Organisations support the campaign that smeared Corbyn as an anti-semite in order to topple him from the leadership of the Labour party and bring these guys in which, in due course given that the UK has a First Past The Post electoral system, rotated positions with the Tories and became the governing party, so zero surprise that the British Government is just a puppet of the Israeli regime.
I'm just glad the UK has left the EU so that their rot doesn't interfere with how things work in the EU (it's bad enough that we have Racist and increasingly Authoritarian Germany and Austria, not to mention the outright Fascist Hungary, we don't need the country were de facto the two main parties are Fascist).
Nah, this isn't uncharacteristic for neoliberalism. Siding with fascists for imperialist reasons is the neolib way, and the Brits traditionally use a less restrained hand when censoring speech.
Even in the US, with our near free speech absolution, neolibs were supportive as cops cracked down hard on peaceful civil disobedience. If that's what American liberals were willing to do when bought by Israeli lobbyists, this makes perfect sense for the British version of the Democratic party. I lived in the UK as an EU immigrant for a decade up to Brexit, and my feelingby the time I left was that they by then were pretty close to just being a posher version of Fascism.
Maybe Fascism is really just the natural end state of Neoliberal Capitalism: you can only go so far in helping the few pillage the wealth of the many before you have to start throwing the empoverished masses some outsiders (immigrants, other nations) and powerless insiders (like the poor and minorities) as scapegoats to distract them away from the (very much local) powerfull that are making them poorer, and as people grow increasingly skeptical of the traditional propaganda machine (for example, all the celebrating of a "growing GDP" doesn't work quite as well when people feel their pockets getting ever lighter) start forcefully cracking down on any dissent that's gaining traction and endangers the interests of the powerful.
Certainly I can't seen any end state of Neoliberalism that's not either Revolution or Authoritarism: all those politicians who got used to an environment were it's entirelly legal and totally normalized for them to get non-executive board memberships, gold-plated consulting gigs and millionaire speech-circuit fees from people they were "friendly" towards whilst in power, aren't going to turn to the people whose "friendship" yields such payouts and tell them they're going to start having to take a smaller cut of the country's wealth and pay more taxes, hence the only ultimate outcomes left are either some kind of Revolution of the masses that forces a cleanup of the political system, or increasing authoritarian measures to stop the masses from rebelling and given that if they're already rebelling it's usually too late (certainly it's far harder to stop it, impossibly so with no damage), what's normally done is to control information and to keep the masses divided and fighting amongst themselves - hence things like Identity Politics, which you can see in the US being fully weaponized - so that they don't rebel again the powerful.
Federated 3d printing design hub like Thingiverse?
I'm just curious if anyone knows of an effort to build a federated version of something like Thingiverse, Printables, Thangs, etc. I'm not really a fan of the centralized control, commercial tie-ins and profit motivations of those and similar sites, but the community of collaboration and remixing designs means they are basically indispensable for time efficient 3d printing, they're basically like the Github of 3d printing.
For me the ideal would be to have a federated alternative where users can host and share their own creations and collections, as well as rate and comment each other's designs to help improve discoverability of the best models in the community. This seems like something that would be a good fit for the ActivityPub protocol but I'm not sure if there is something like this already out there. All I could find is this old reddit post that seems to have gotten a lot of support (and good suggestions for features) in the comments but has gone nowhere as far as I can tell.

They aren't talking about real-world biological cell cloning. They're talking about a machine built with secret reptilian technology where you put the dead person in one cylinder and it scans them and then prints out a replica that is alive but without a soul, so then you turn it into a cyborg with a brain chip (more alien technology) and then it can be remote controlled and progammed what to say.
It is not so much a "conspiracy theory" as a "psychotic delusion". And all the 'Q' people believe it. They are all severely mentally ill.

I've always wondered this, but how do you prevent a bidet from festering? When dedicating, micro poop particles get everywhere in the bowl, and therefore my conclusion would be that it would get on the bidet spout. Over time, since it's moist, wouldn't a very thin microbial biofilm form on the spout? Then you'd be blasting in potentially dangerous bacteria back into yourself. Do you have to clean it after every use? Every day?
The only way I could see it maybe keeping clean would be if it was behind a small door that opened when it'll be in use and then retracted once more.
So far the most hygienic option would be wet wipes.
I’ll preface my comment with the fact that I never saw a bidet until I was in my 30s, so I was never properly “bidet trained”, but I can tell you that at a glance the prospect of having a damp ass after every shit does not appeal to me. Particularly in humid regions where damp bodily areas leads chafing and rashes. It also looks like a lot more effort than just wiping and moving on with minimal difference in results.

I read elsewhere that these were autonomous drones. It likely wouldn’t be terribly difficult to program a drone to fly to a specific location, look for something shaped like an aircraft, then fly into it.
You could also program one or two drones to fly to a specific location, record video for 5-10 minutes, then fly to a different landing zone where one person is waiting to recover the video.

None of what you said is relevant or coherent. 9/11 was an attack against civilians by terrorists. This was an attack against military targets by state actors at war. NATO exists for soft and hard power projection, and to discourage intra-state conflict within Europe. Further, the weakness of the Russian Military as contrasted by their posturing has been stark. I don't personally believe Russia remains a superpower, with their ability to project power now restricted to digital battlefields and hard power only adjacent to their borders.
If not for nukes, nobody would give a shit about Russia. Their army has fluctuated between being excellent and being worse than useless for its entire history, and they're currently on a low end of that cycle. Sure there’s no reason not to allow X or Y thing on it, but if it requires dev time why would Apple invest on something that they do not see as a priority for the device? The iPad is not aimed at developers or engineers it’s aimed at creatives and board room executives. I know many tattoo artists that use it, they have 0 complaints about the device. The reason Apple is literally spending billions of dollars globally fighting against government mandates for opening their ecosystem to third-party app stores is not because of their usability, it's because they know they have an on-par product with a high profit margin and intend to keep that way instead of doing actual innovation to differentiate their products.

edit: apparently I've upset some Apple users. I apologize. My point was that the features each class of device has is manufactured to ensure you buy 3 products instead of 1 while the hardware inside is essentially the same. Like restricting touch and pen support isn't about hardware limitations; it's about getting you to spend. A small box you can stick into 3 different cases, one looking like a laptop, another like a tablet and another like a phone, can.
Or a phone you stick into the former two, like a dock station. One could do this with Ubuntu Phone, sadly they failed.
One can argue that the case of a MacBook and its screen and the keyboard account for much of its cost, but I think the fact itself that it's a single device with different UIs would make many situations more convenient. No need to synchronize files - it's already the same storage medium. No need to charge 3 separate devices. No need to stop your work when switching.
And yeah, I still think the "computer" part costs a lot.

Alcuni sono “ex manager”, che non si capisce bene se vuol dire che hanno lasciato la scrivania o se è la scrivania ad aver lasciato loro.
Li vediamo marciare tra le zanzare e i serpenti come se dovessero raggiungere il Wi-Fi più vicino, mentre il sudore scioglie l’ultima traccia di ceretta alle sopracciglia e i loro zaini sembrano contenere più prodotti skincare che strumenti di sopravvivenza. Il vero pericolo, però, non è la natura selvaggia: sono le tentazioni.
Ad ogni bivio, una nuova prova morale: una bistecca tomahawk da 240 euro, una suite con aria condizionata e minibar, un massaggio balinese a otto mani. Se uno di loro cede – e, spoiler: cedono spesso – il montepremi si riduce. Tutti si indignano, ma poi, alla tentazione successiva, cambiano idea. Perché rinunciare a una Jacuzzi in mezzo alla giungla solo per lasciare agli altri qualche euro in più?
E qui sorge spontanea una domanda: se questi sono i lavori del futuro, noi che ci svegliavamo alle sette per timbrare il cartellino abbiamo sbagliato tutto? Forse. Ma resta il dubbio: cosa fanno, esattamente, queste persone?
Uno dice: “Creo contenuti emozionali per il web”. Che potrebbe voler dire scrivere una poesia, girare un reel con la nonna, o semplicemente filmarsi mentre beve un cappuccino con lo sguardo assorto. Un altro è “strategic planner esperienziale”, cioè, se abbiamo capito bene, organizza eventi dove la gente si sente ispirata a investire in sé stessa. Un terzo “ha lasciato la finanza per seguire il cuore”, e oggi racconta la propria trasformazione interiore tramite podcast. Spoiler: la finanza sembra sentirsi benissimo anche senza di lui.
Certo, i tempi cambiano, e non tutti devono sapere riparare un tubo o accendere un fuoco con due sassi. Ma in certi momenti – tipo quando piove da tre giorni e bisogna costruire un riparo – l’assenza di skill pratiche diventa più evidente del fard sbavato sulle guance. E la giungla, quella vera, non fa sconti ai CEO di sé stessi.
Alla fine, mentre il montepremi si assottiglia e le prove si moltiplicano, resta solo una certezza: nella giungla digitale di oggi, l’unica vera sopravvivenza è farsi notare. Anche se l’unica cosa che si è costruita, finora, è un profilo LinkedIn pieno di parole che non significano nulla.

Not in the field, but I think it depends. It's for sure more dangerous on average if we consider the entire world, but I feel like that's mostly because of certain areas (US w/ toothless FAA and ATC shortage, Russia with the war&part shortages etc, ...) and new Boeing aircraft.
Flying is still the safest mode of travel per km, and if you're flying Airbus/Embraer/COMAC/pre-2010 Boeing it's likely as safe as it was a decade ago. However it kinda sucks due to all the greenhouse gas emissions.

There are some lessons here in the article that I think other politicians can learn from. We're often baffled why some people like Trump so much. It explains how he's able (from the perspective of a supporter) feel raw, authentic and validate their concerns.
Of course we don't like him because we study his actions, not his words and know that the "solutions" he's proposing aren't going to help his supporters or help anyone except perhaps the richest of the richest or rather the very wealth people within his inner circle and even then it seems like he's not helping all of the rich or anybody because he's hurting the economy which impacts us all no matter how rich or poor.
So I think the lesson is a politician who could evoke a similar feeling of authenticity without the divisiveness paired with real progressive solutions that will help the average American would do very well in an election and as president.

Depending on fuel availability and other obligations, it opens them up to some severe implications to enterprising forces. Logistically they must either weaken other theaters (like say Syria or Georgia or Kyrgyzstan) by flying them to replace the lost craft, or simply accept a weakened position with air power over Ukraine. (Assuming all are in service and none are reserve)
Even more so, Russian command will have to gauge if Ukraine is able to replicate this, and how often. If another strike like this is deemed not only possible but imminent, they will have to start using an airbase even further from the front, driving fuel costs up to deliver the same payloads. Additionally, increased flight time means less chance the target will be caught unprepared for your arrival and allows more time to relocate mobile AA to respond to your (now much longer and obvious) flight path.
Edit: The TU-95 (the nuclear capable bigboi) has a fuel range of 15k km (9300mi) so these were already well within range, just flight times will be longer.

This actually has huge implications for the war in general. Russias nuclear triad just had the dick blown off of it,
I'd be willing to wager that this was most, if not all the active bombers being used in the Ukrainian theatre. If they are following a loose rule of 3rds with their birds (deployed and flying missions, being prepped for deployment, shut down receiving repairs/overhauls), this very well could severely limit Russia's ability to keep up their cruise missile bombardment.
If that's the case, that frees up Ukraine to be much more flexible with their air defenses.
Not to mention if they were able to pull off a mission like this, allegedly using cell towers to fly their drones, what's stopping them from doing similar limited missions to tank factories, recruit depots, and other places that are further away from the front? Literally all of these targets now become viable because they will be much less heavily guarded than the nuclear triad bombers.
Protecting those assets pulls material and meat from the front lines, which further helps Ukraine.
I can't help but see this as a massive positive swing in momentum for Ukraine.
I think Ukraine can only pull off a big attack like this a few times. Not because they’re incapable, or Russia, now aware of the method, can defend against it, but because each attack generates data. The more data you have, the greater the ability to analyze and spot patterns, which puts Ukrainian operators at risk.
Although it would be excellent if another attack happened very soon against another relatively irreplaceable Russian asset. But a campaign of smaller scale harassment throughout the country would suffice to harm morale and keep supply constraints, well, constrained.
Presumably the other 2/3'rds are operational. Presumably.

The US keeps their reserve in Arizona but it isnt a quick, easy, or cheap process to reactivate a plane depending on how it is stored. We have pulled two B-52s out of storage in the last decade as replacements after a ground fire and a crash. One took 19 months and the other took 12+ months.

I don't think it's because Trump is a Russian asset which is why they haven't told the White House, but because Ukrainians have had bad experience with their plans being leaked before. The 2023 Ukrainian offensive failed because the Russian knew they were coming, and everyone including the media and their mothers shouted it across the rooftops for weeks. Back then, I thought "isn't this a bad idea to report it on the media"? But then I am an armchair analyst so I guess the Ukrainians and Bidem knew what they were doing (turns out they didn't). Since then, Ukrainians choose to hide their intentions.

The 2022 offensive failed because there wasn't enough support. Ukraine was saying they needed X tanks, shells, guns, whatever from the West, and they actually got around X/3. Even with that, they very nearly made it far enough that Crimea would have been logistically cut off. Russia would have either needed to come to terms or else Crimea literally and metaphorically starves.
There isn't really a way to hide what you're doing. You have to build up forces at your bases, move a lot of material, etc. The timing wasn't going to be a surprise, either, because local seasonal weather changes put a demand on when you do things.
The Ukrainians were far from cutting off Crimea in 2022. They barely made it like 5-10 kilometres? And unfortunately, the area they recaptured is being slowly grounded away by Russian counterattacks in the past two years. The Ukrainians were hoping that Russia at the time haven't learned their lesson and could replicate Ukrainian rapid offensive in Kharkiv in autumn of 2021.
The surprise Ukrainian offensive into Kursk proved you can hide your intentions. It isn't like Ukraine haven't learned their lesson beforehand. Speaking of which, the incursion wasn't told to the White House either when Biden was president.
It didn't need to be far.
Artillery range is around 70km. You need to get that close to the southern most road along the coast into Crimea, and a little more for padding some defense. Now you can turn that road and anything on it into rubble whenever you want.
Ukraine got within a few km of doing that at some areas.
The Kerch Strait Bridge could be hit whenever by a missile. Ukraine had already hit it by then.
There's a port at Sevestapol. It's also been hit by Ukranian missiles before, and even if not, it's not enough on its own.
Airplanes expend lots of fuel for not much cargo. You're not going to supply Crimea that way.
There would be no logistical options left for Russia. Holding those couple of km more would starve it out. Only question is if Putin tries to hang on out of stubbornness.

On Sunday morning, Marles asserted that "what we have seen from China is the single biggest increase in military capability and build up in conventional sense, by any country since the end of the Second World War".

I don’t think there’s much of a mystery to solve here. Basically every country or territory along China’s maritime borders is forming or deepening ties with the U.S. military, buying weapons systems, and even building new bases. A full-blown war between nuclear powers is pretty unthinkable but just a blockade would seriously harm China’s economy.
Of course, everyone talks about just wanting to protect shipping lanes and their territorial sovereignty and shit like that. Peace through strength. Maybe that ultimately turns out to be how it goes. But wars have broken out over some pretty dumb shit that escalated.
Why is there any mystery here. They said they intend on ending their civil war and have shown no indication whatsoever that such a statement is only rhetorical or posturing. Taiwan has never tried to be independent of China. It still claims sovereignty over all of China.
If the US Confederates had retreated to Cuba and others had intervened on their behalf, while the Confederates still claimed dominion over a part of the USA, you can bet your ass the US would invade Cuba as soon as they had the opportunity. We can all decry the whole thing, but it is their conflict. If anything, we should be evacuating anyone and anything that needs to leave and capitulating without further involvement. Like if your neighbor and their spouse are arguing, stay out of it for the benefit of everyone. This is not some mate getting abused that needs help. This involves two bloody parties where all sides have done monstrous things and that needs to get resolved one way or another. Both can't claim dominion over all. The past cannot be bowdlerized for convenience or exploitation for profit of western criminal capitalist abuse. No one needs to fight or die, but a resolution must be found.

Because that's a history question. "Taiwan" is not a country, it's a province of the Republic of China (ROC), which was the government of China before the communist revolution. They fled to Taiwan but their constitution etc still define them as the Republic Of China, with territorial claims over all of China

The title stating the obvious concerning the felon not being informed is weird, but the article is a worthwhile read:

I cannot begin to imagine what a blow this is to Russia's crumbling air force. And the ingenuity of the attack (some of whose details are omitted in this article - though you may have read more about it in others) is phenomenal.
And don't forget this little tidbit - also a developing story:
