The fact there's two options and this is a pro-Ukraine article means it needs clarification. Because Russian disinfo accounts rely on things like that to build credibility to their accounts. If you're not completely sure when checking an account, if it's a little messy to figure out who a person is for and who they're not for, you're more likely to give up. Total Revolution is difficult and requires a very active, committed group of supporters acting both within and outside the administration. Absolutely something you want to aim for, but often the product of generations of struggle.
You could, for instance, argue that the current Trump/DOGE government is a kind of (counter-)revolution that is finally overturning the Progressive Era of liberal democratic government. But this was a project that played out over decades, with each new wave of outsiders agitating and being rebuffed and regrouping to try again, while moderates on the inside cleared more and more space for radicals to infiltrate and overturn the New Deal and the Warren Court.

This guy has already lied to them many, many, many times over. They didn't learn either because they're unbelievably stupid, or committed to hurting others so much that they chose to turn a blind eye to the lies.
As best I can tell from Trump administration statements, their strategy for mitigating their political damage has been to publicly demand that WalMart and other companies just take losses as he increases their input costs.
That's not going to happen, but I suppose that it doesn't matter, if enough people believe that it could.
What I find darkly fascinating about this "eat the cost" strategy is that if you were to dare suggest taxing Walmart more, Trump's fans would call you a commie librul socialist who just wants handouts. But when Trump demands that they subsidize his agenda suddenly they're all for it.
It's honestly a little poetic in a way, given how the that's how Walmart's treated its workers for generations. (ie, Walmart subsidizing their profits by paying workers so little they have to seek the social safety net.)
It never made any sense. Walmart famously keeps a profit margin under 3%. And Shitstain L’Orange tells them to eat a 25% tariff? How does that work? They just operate on a 22% loss???
Well the arithmetic isn't that simple. Cost of purchasing goods is far from WMT's only cost. So even if you assumed that particular expense increased 25% (reality being less), the impact to profit would be always less. Maybe WMT technically could eat the cost, their executives have probably ordered projections. But market forces and the will of the shareholders certainly makes it an unlikely proposition.

Grocery shopping yesterday we really noticed it for the first time. Things have been higher and higher for a while but now there an extra 10-30% on some goods, overnight. Gonna be a brutal year. I’ve never seen stagflation in the flesh. No one my age has.
What I have noticed is less and less items on sale. I mostly purchase sale stuff and I have slim pickings. I actually saved a flyer from a few months back and there’s a lot more on sale.
I've been buying the generic brands between Kroger and Walmart just passed on what i needed most this week. It's always the cheapest anyway. I see zero reason to buy name brand flour, condiments, or canned foods. What killed me this week as buying kitty litter. That Was a massive increase. Fortunately i live 2 blocks away from the weekly farmer's market, so i am gonna just start buying seasonal produce there this summer
I haven't seen increased prices due to tariffs at all yet, but I haven't been shopping lately for anything but groceries and other necessities. I actually bought kitty litter (Ökocat brand) last week and it was the same price as the last few times. Like you I buy almost exclusively store brands and I plan to hit up farmers markets this summer too. I'm also growing my own cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and corn.
As a USian that just got back from world travel, the only freedom we have here that’s different from many places is the freedom from nasty-ass tobacco smoke EVERYFUCKINGWHERE. It’s the only freedom we have that’s better at home than elsewhere.

You know where you notice this? As an American buying appliances in Europe. You can buy a front loading washing machine for 300€, including VAT. A refrigerator? 400€. Three years ago I paid 1800 for a fridge in the us, and last year bought a scratch and dent special washing machine for $600
I just bought a whole suite of new appliances over here. I didnt realise I ws doing so well. Most wasshers and dryers here are front load, thats standard. Something else that came up on my travels is that you guys dont often have fans in your ovens, which would be very standard here.
The oven fan drives me nuts. It allows them to sell stupid shit like air fryers. Put convection in my fucking oven and stop charging up to $1000 extra for the option.
Also the combo washer dryer. I stayed with friends in Belgium for a month over 25 years ago. They had a front load washer/dryer. One appliance. We are now finally seeing these in North America but they suck balls and are really expensive.

It's corporations. My stove runs on 220V as does my dryer. Aside from gas all of them do. It does exist but it is priced out of a normal person's budget. These ovens exist only in homes where everyone eats out as generally those are the homes that can afford the extra expense. Or as that person told you previously, unless you purchase a commercial oven. Yay capitalism!
To be fair I got what I paid for, I paid shy of two grand for two full size ovens that include a steam and microwave function. We use them all the time. Do you guys have down draft hobs? Best thing I ever bought for the kitchen.
I'm not a typical North American. I have a full kitchen outside my house in an outbuilding that is fully set up as a commercial kitchen on three phase power. Inside my house I have typical shitty North American appliances. The "outdoor" kitchen is all second hand bought at auction commercial restaurant appliances. Gas stove tops. Commercial electric ovens. Vent hoods. The whole thing. It's taken years and years to build up.
We grow, forage and raise a lot of our own food and have a small galley style kitchen in our little house that just isn't practical for large batch stuff like butchering and canning.

I have heard him claim in multiple interviews that gas is $2 a gallon, and yet I've never heard a journalist challenge that easily disputable lie. There is not a single place in this country where gas is $2, so why aren't they demanding answers when he says this? Where is it $2?

In fairness some of the traditional methods are pretty inhumane. In the Faroes for example they herd them onto the beach which is not great, whereas in Norway they shoot it in the head with an exploding harpoon which is much quicker.

They are all planning to move to Wayland, even the OS's. Gnome first, KDE is still untangling X11 from Kwin, but expected to drop it with KDE7. It is time.
That is honestly surprising, I thought we were cautious about it at !solus@piefied.social . We already defaulted to Wayland on Plasma and Gnome for about a year (IIRC).
A year ago when I was looking at linux for gaming what I kept hearing is that Wayland wasn't ready. I've been running Nobara 42 with KDE Plasma 6 on Wayland for about a month now and it's been great, now I hear Gnome is dropping X11 support, etc. What changed?
Wayland had/has a couple of missing features. Personally, it's nothing I use so I've been on Wayland for years now, but if you care about those missing features, then they won't work.
Honestly I don't even remember what they were anymore. I think screen capture was a big one though.
Screen capture in what way? Cause spectacle works fine for screenshots, I can stream video on discord, etc, so I've not run into a screen capture related issue.
