Four teams of humanoid robots faced off in a fully autonomous 3-on-3 football game powered entirely by artificial intelligence in Beijing on Saturday night.
Touted as China's first 3-on-3 football game between humanoid robots, the event served as a preview for the upcoming World Humanoid Robot Games, set to take place in the Chinese capital this August.According to the organizers, a key highlight of the competition was that all participating robots operated fully autonomously using AI-driven strategies – without any human intervention or supervision.
Equipped with advanced visual sensors, the robots were able to identify the ball and navigate the field. They were also designed to stand up on their own after falling.
During the game, however, several still had to be carried off the field on stretchers by staff.

Windows seemingly lost 400 million users in the past three years — official Microsoft statements show hints of a shrinking user base
Microsoft EVP Yusuf Mehdi said in a blog post last week that Windows powers over a billion active devices globally. This might sound like a healthy number, but according to ZDNET, the Microsoft annual report for 2022 said that more than 1.4 billion devices were running Windows 10 or 11. Given that these documents contain material information and have allegedly been pored over by the tech giant’s lawyers, we can safely assume that Windows’ user base has been quietly shrinking in the past three years, shedding around 400 million users. This is probably why Microsoft has been aggressively pushing users to upgrade to Windows 11 after the previous version of the OS loses support — so that its users would install the latest version of Windows on their current system (or get a new PC if their system is incapable of running the latest version). Although macOS is a threat to Windows, especially with the launch of Apple Silicon, we cannot say that those 400 million users all went and bought a MacBook. That’s because, as far back as 2023, Mac sales have also been dropping, with Statista reporting the computer line, once holding more than 85% of the company revenue, now making up just 7.7%.

Iran Disables GPS, Joins China’s Beidou — The End of U.S. Satellite Dominance? [19:23 | JUN 28 2025 | GVS Deep Dive]
cross-posted from: lemmy.world/post/32183144
Generated Summary below:Video Description:
Iran has just shut off GPS across its territory — and switched to China’s Beidou satellite system. Why now? What does it mean for U.S. dominance in space-based navigation and warfare?
In this episode of GVS Deep Dive, Najma Minhas unpacks Iran’s bold strategic pivot — and why it may mark the beginning of the end for America’s global GPS monopoly. From WhatsApp tracking scandals and drone warfare to China’s high-precision Beidou system and Belt & Road integration, this decision carries major military and geopolitical consequences.Watch till the end to understand:
Why GPS was always a tool of U.S. soft powerHow the 1996 Taiwan Strait crisis pushed China to develop Beidou
What makes Beidou uniquely powerful in battlefield environments
How Iran and the Global South are quietly building independence from Western tech
Will more countries ditch GPS and align with China’s Beidou system?

Generated Summary:
Main Topic: Iran's decision to disable GPS across its territory and adopt China's Beidou (Bato) satellite navigation system, and the implications of this shift for U.S. dominance in space and global geopolitics.
Key Points:
- Iran's Shift: Iran has disabled GPS and adopted China's Beidou, a geopolitical statement driven by concerns over cyber warfare, electronic jamming, and dependence on Western-dominated systems.
- Reasons for the Shift:
- Rising cyber warfare threats and tensions with the US and Israel.
- Geostrategic alignment with China, which offers technical superiority in some areas.
- A scandal involving alleged leaks of Iranian officials' locations via WhatsApp and Instagram.
- GPS Origins and Dominance: GPS, built and controlled by the US military, became the backbone of global navigation. The US unlocked high precision for civilian access in 2000, fueling the growth of smartphones, Uber, and precision agriculture.
- China's Beidou as a Competitor: China developed Beidou after realizing its military vulnerability during the 1996 Taiwan Strait crisis. Beidou now rivals GPS, with more satellites and ground stations, offering better positioning accuracy in some regions and unique features like short message communication.
- Beidou's Capabilities: Beidou offers high accuracy, anti-jamming protections, and short message communication. It powers over 1.5 billion users daily and is integrated into China's Belt and Road Initiative.
- Implications for Iran: Beidou provides Iran with a secure, independent navigation network, enhancing the precision of its military operations and strengthening its economic resilience under sanctions.
- Future Trends: China aims to make Beidou the world's go-to system by 2035. The US is upgrading its GPS system, but these upgrades offer only moderate improvements.
Highlights:
- Iran's move is not just a tech upgrade but a geopolitical realignment, signaling a shift away from Western digital hegemony.
- Beidou is becoming a first-choice alternative for countries seeking political independence.
- The US Space Force acknowledges that GPS is lagging in updates.
- Beidou's short message communication feature is a unique strategic capability not offered by GPS.
- The video poses the question of whether more countries will follow Iran's lead and adopt Beidou.

UK | Glastonbury’s Kneecap censorship has backfired
The BBC refused to provide a live stream of Kneecap’s performance at Glastonbury yesterday, after a member of the Irish hip hop trio was charged with a terror offence for allegedly waving a Hezbollah flag at a concert last year. It was therefore unfortunate that the preceding act, Bob Vylan, decided to lead chants of “death to the IDF” to crowds saturated with Palestinians flags. Even more embarrassingly for the BBC, the screen behind the two members of Bob Vylan bore the caption: “Free Palestine. The United Nations have called it a genocide. The BBC calls it a ‘conflict’.” Kneecap themselves conducted chants of “fuck Keir Starmer” as a clapback to the Prime Minister saying that their appearance on the Glastonbury stage would not be “appropriate”.

G.O.P. Bill Adds Surprise Tax That Could Cripple Wind and Solar Power
Senate Republicans have quietly inserted provisions in President Trump’s domestic policy bill that would not only end federal support for wind and solar energy but would impose an entirely new tax on future projects, a move that industry groups say could devastate the renewable power industry. The tax provision, tucked inside the 940-page bill that the Senate made public just after midnight on Friday, stunned observers.
“This is how you kill an industry,” said Bob Keefe, executive director of E2, a nonpartisan group of business leaders and investors. “And at a time when electricity prices and demand are soaring.”
The bill would rapidly phase out existing federal tax subsidies for wind and solar power by 2027. Doing so, many companies say, could derail hundreds of projects under development and could jeopardize billions of dollars in manufacturing facilities that had been planned around the country with the subsidies in mind.
Well, that's not good.
G.O.P. Bill Has $1.1 Trillion in Health Cuts and 11.8 Million Losing Care, C.B.O. Says
Analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that Republicans’ new version of the legislation would make far deeper cuts and lead to more people becoming uninsured than previous proposals.

‘Lidar is lame’: why Elon Musk’s vision for a self-driving Tesla taxi faltered
After years of promising investors that millions of Tesla robotaxis would soon fill the streets, Elon Musk debuted his driverless car service in a limited public rollout in Austin, Texas. It did not go smoothly. The 22 June launch initially appeared successful enough, with a flood of videos from pro-Tesla social media influencers praising the service and sharing footage of their rides. Musk celebrated it as a triumph, and the following day, Tesla’s stock rose nearly 10%.
What quickly became apparent, however, was that the same influencer videos Musk promoted also depicted the self-driving cars appearing to break traffic laws or struggle to properly function. By Tuesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had opened an investigation into the service and requested information from Tesla on the incidents.
Let me tell you how thrilled we all are to have a new hazard added to Austin streets.

In short, having huge numbers of Americans complain to Congress, as with this piece of legislation, can influence laws at the margin.
The rest of the bill is still awful; it imposes new and large taxes on wind and solar while eliminating subsidies for them, funds a the deportation of millions, cuts medicaid sharply (in large part through imposing onerous paperwork on people) and cuts taxes for billionaires while raising them on the poor.

These people reviewing food in their car aren’t your enemy. City planners, department of transportation, landlords, and CEOs are your enemy.
