New Google AdSense Fill Empty In-Page Ads

Google AdSense announced a new feature to "Fill empty in-page ads" by showing "contextually-relevant suggestions related to your page and site inside unfilled ad spaces." In short, if an ad is not filled by Google on your page, then Google will look for other ways to monetize that ad spot.

I should note at the top, that Google will turn this on by default for all AdSense publishers within 30 days. So if you want, you can opt out of it.

Microsoft pushes staff to use internal AI tools more, and may consider this in reviews. 'Using AI is no longer optional.'

Julia Liuson, president of the Microsoft division responsible for developer tools such as AI coding service GitHub Copilot, recently sent an email instructing managers to evaluate employee performance based on their use of internal AI tools like this.

"AI is now a fundamental part of how we work," Liuson wrote. "Just like collaboration, data-driven thinking, and effective communication, using AI is no longer optional — it's core to every role and every level."

Liuson told managers that AI "should be part of your holistic reflections on an individual's performance and impact."

Microsoft's performance requirements vary from team to team, and some are considering including a more formal metric about the use of internal AI tools in performance reviews for its next fiscal year, according to a person familiar with the situation. This person asked not to be identified discussing private matters.

How to set night light on manual control but disabled by default ?

Hi,

There's an option for night light to be manually controlled, but then it has to be enabled by default on boot ("always on") :

There's also an option to disable it by default, but then it requires opening settings to enable ("always off") :

How to make it manual but without enabling it by default ?

Thanks

in reply to FundMECFS

It is just for a council seat so I doubt Starmer's government has all that much influence on the candidate.
in reply to theo

Yeah thanks. I somehow missed that in the headline!

Thought it was the byelection for a whole Durham seat in the commons.

Lisa Murkowski’s megabill vote was everything people hate about politicians

What the senator claimed was a difficult decision was just a case of backroom deals and abandoned principles.

When the Republican-controlled Senate passed the disastrous megabill on Tuesday, the deciding vote came from Sen. Lisa Murkowski. The Alaskan lawmaker, who has long claimed to be a moderate, got over the finish line the bill for Donald Trump’s priorities, which would send billions of dollars to ICE, extend tax cuts for the wealthy, kick large abortion providers out of the Medicaid program, and knock millions of low-income people off their health insurance.

Murkowski cast this vote just a week after she suggested in a podcast interview that she’d consider becoming an independent and caucusing with Senate Democrats. She cast this vote, which could shutter nearly 200 Planned Parenthood clinics, after repeatedly painting herself as “pro choice.” She cast this vote after Planned Parenthood called the bill a “backdoor abortion ban” and said it could eliminate one in four abortion providers nationwide.

As Bolts Magazine Editor-in-Chief Daniel Nichanian noted after the vote: “The Senate’s small-state ultra-bias is never more maddening than when one senator uses it to get benefits for her 740,000 constituents while openly acknowledging the bill she’s supporting will harm the nation’s 339 million other residents.”

Organic Maps fork CoMaps launches on major app stores for iOS and Android

CoMaps shares core functionality with Organic Maps. It allows users to plan and navigate trips entirely offline. It's entirely free to use, with no ads, and it collects no personal data. Additionally, its efficient design ensures minimal battery consumption, making it suitable for travelers seeking private, uninterrupted navigation.

What sets CoMaps apart is a fully transparent governance approach. All decisions about the app's development are made publicly, with users and contributors having a voice in its future direction. This focus on community engagement aims to deliver value for its users rather than prioritize profit.

Do you want to import or record?

To import: star button -> import bookmarks and tracks. Then you can just pick it from your file browser. You can't use it for navigation, it's just displayed as an overlay.

To record: Hamburger menu -> Record track

in reply to infeeeee

I'd like to plan a trip and then to download it's gpx track

Tesla vehicle deliveries drop sharply as Musk backlash affects demand

Tesla said it delivered 384,122 vehicles in the second quarter, down 13.5% from 443,956 units a year ago

Tesla posted another big drop in quarterly deliveries on Wednesday, putting it on course for its second straight annual sales decline as demand falters due to backlash over CEO Elon Musk’s political stance and an ageing vehicle lineup.

The stock has lost 25% of its value so far this year as investors feared brand damage in Europe, where sales have slumped most sharply, and in the US from Musk’s embrace of rightwing politics and his role in spearheading the Trump administration’s cost-cutting effort.

The day Trump and Musk split publicly in early June, Tesla lost about $150bn in market value. Its share price has somewhat recovered in the ensuing month, but Trump and Musk have likewise reignited their feud as they spar over Trump’s sweeping tax bill.
