Asking About Tuxedo Computers
First of all, I'm not sure this is the best community for this, so if you think there is a more suitable one, please inform me.
So I've been looking for manufacturers that sell computers with Linux out of the box and I remembered hearing about Tuxedo Computers. Some people seem to really like them, but I've also heard of some people complaining about them too.
And so I've come here to ask this community what are your experiences with this vendor? Is there somewhere else I should look? Thanks in advance.
We have a few Tuxedo computers and some other Linux brands at our company and are generally happy about them. Cheaper devices have a less than perfect keyboard (though I liked the one on the slimbook) a worse camera and microphone (though some are very ok).
I'm very happy with these Linux devices. The few makes for which we needed parts also supplied them but sending the device their way for repair took longer than we'd have wanted.
I loved my Pulse 15 (Gen 1) from Tuxedo
It was a performance monster and still had amazing battery life.
But as others have said, they only take some finished Clevo models - like most small distributors, who can't afford their own factory.
But they verify that everything runs with Linux, else they sometimes patch stuff.
And I need to highlight their support!
After years with my Pulse 15 the battery became a pillow, because I used a USB C charger that wasn't working right (always switched on and off, which killed the battery)
Pretty much without questions asked I got a new battery for free.
Now I have it to my nephew, who enjoys Minecraft on this laptop (still Linux), but the CMOS battery was dead.
Got that one for free as well after warranty
So, I can't really complain about them.
Actually the opposite.
But I still settled for a Framework 16, because I wanted something different and the models at that time weren't fitting my use case...

The TLDR of it is that economic growth is positively correlated with the increase in the standard of living. A country like China started out with a very low standard of living after the revolution, and the primary goal of the party has been to raise people out of poverty. This necessarily correlates with the rise in consumption.
I agree that you can reach a point where further economic growth may not produce meaningful improvements in the standard of living, but majority of the world is far from that point right now.

Why China's ultimatum to Myanmar rebels threatens global supply of heavy rare earths
July 8 (Reuters) - The global supply of heavy rare earths hinges in part on the outcome of a months-long battle between a rebel army and the Chinese-backed military junta in the hills of northern Myanmar.
The Kachin Independence Army since December has been battling the junta over the town of Bhamo, less than 100 km (62 miles) from the Chinese border, as part of the civil war that erupted after the military's 2021 coup.
Nearly half the world's supply of heavy rare earths is extracted from mines in Kachin state, including those north of Bhamo, a strategically-vital garrison town. They are then shipped to China for processing into magnets that power electronic vehicles and wind turbines.
China, which has a near-monopoly over the processing of heavy rare earths, has threatened to halt buying the minerals mined in KIA-controlled territory unless the militia stops trying to seize full control of Bhamo, according to three people familiar with the matter.
One of the people, a KIA official, said the Chinese demand was made in May, without detailing where the discussions took place. Another person, a KIA commander, said Beijing was represented by foreign ministry officials at the talks.

Don't forget to thank our Lord and Saviour Mr. Zelensky (and the brave heroes protecting Ukraine's borders!) that this criminal was caught!
Just imagine what would happen if he actually managed to escape, and god-forbid lived a happy life instead of being kidnapped in a few years (or earlier..) off the streets and sent into meat grinder to die? That would be terrible!
God bless western democracy.
And some people are really surprised how can people say that Russia is liberating Ukraine... Yeah, those must be tankies. Obviously freedom is slavery.
right?!
imagine the pandimonium taking place if all of these criminals got away scott free to live the rest of their lives instead of patriotically dying in the war that the united states fooled the country into starting with russia.
and just like the american ice agents, the border guards don't want the public to know what their faces look like.
Even if the US had a hand in it, starting war can never be the correct awnser.

US only has 25% of all Patriot missile interceptors needed for Pentagon’s military plans
The United States only has about 25% of the Patriot missile interceptors it needs for all of the Pentagon’s military plans after burning through stockpiles in the Middle East in recent months, an alarming depletion that led to the Trump administration freezing the latest transfer of munitions to Ukraine.
The stockpile of the Patriot missiles has fallen so low that it raised concern inside the Pentagon that it could jeopardize potential US military operations, and deputy defense secretary, Stephen Feinberg, authorized the transfer to be halted while they reviewed where weapons were being sent.
Donald Trump appeared to reverse at least part of that decision on Monday when he told reporters in advance of a dinner at the White House with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he would “send some more weapons” to Ukraine, although he did not disclose whether that would include Patriot systems.

How checklists lie with facts, and are bad for figuring out privacy of apps etc.
cross-posted from: beehaw.org/post/20989376
Where Soatok goes over why checklists are meaningless when trying to figure out if something is private or just for comparisons in general.
Interesting article, and I feel that it's pretty fair. At first, I thought they were talking about this checklist, but I see they're different. The version I followed doesn't seem to have the same issues (lists jurisdiction but doesn't give it a rating, doesn't list or rate encryption methods at all, no summary at the beginning, etc.).
I think checklists/matrices still have their place, as listing all the branches/options might get too cluttered for a diagram, but I do understand why flowcharts (or the neat venn diagrams that get posted here often) can express information better. I don't think checklists are inherently biased, I just think you need a good decision maker behind the list.
I think the article was an interesting read. From a laymen's perspective it felt like it got to side tracked by the examples mentioned in the intro (the initial list example and signal vs mls).
When I initially started reading I had thought there would be more information for how someone that is new to a subject could spot and differentiate these lists from the ones the author says the article isn't about without being an expert.
Instead it feels like the title of the article ends up being more of a sub header and the sub header "How Do You Compare Signal to MLS?" was actually a more appropriate title.
Gosuki: a privacy friendly, real time, multi-browser, extension-free bookmark manager
Hi all !
I just released the first version of Gosuki, a multi-browser real time bookmark manager I have been writing on and off for the past few years. It aggregates your bookmarks in real time across all browsers and even external APIs such as Reddit and Github.
- Github: github.com/blob42/gosuki
- Documentation: gosuki.net/
I was always annoyed by the existing bookmark management solutions and wanted a tool that just works without relying on browser extensions, self-hosted servers or cloud services. As a developer and Linux user I also find myself using multiple browsers simultaneously depending on the needs so I needed something that works with any browser and can handle multiple profiles per browser.
The few solutions that exist require manual management of bookmarks. Gosuki automatically catches any new bookmark in real time so no need to manually export and synchronize your bookmarks. It allows a tag based bookmarking experience even if the native browser does not support tags. You just hit ctrl+d
and write your tags in the title.
Feature Highlights:
- A single binary with no dependencies or browser extensions necessary. It just work right out of the box.
- Use the universal
ctrl+d
shortcut to add bookmarks and call custom commands. - Tag with #hashtags even if your browser does not support it. You can even add tags in the Title. If you are used to organize your bookmarks in folders, they become tags
- Real time tracking of bookmark changes
- Builtin, local Web UI which also works without Javascript (w3m friendly)
suki
cli command for a dmenu/rofi compatible output- Modular and extensible: Run custom scripts and actions per tags and folders when particular bookmarks are detected
- Browser Agnostic: Detects which browsers you have installed and watch changes across all of them
- Also handles multiple profiles per browser
- Stores bookmarks in a portable sqlite database compatible with the Buku. You can use any program that was made for buku.
- Can fetch your bookmarks from external APIs (Reddit and Github for now).
- Easily extensible to handle any browser or API
It's open source with an AGPLv3 license, Checkout the README and website docs for more details.

Rape hoax redux: Debunking the latest relaunch of a genocidal atrocity propaganda lie
Today the Israeli death and rape-cult that has actually been engaged in systematic pedophilic gang-rape of Palestinian children, girls, boys, women and men is going to desperately try to re-launch the genocidal atrocity propaganda rape hoax.
Before I begin, this is essential: Haaretz itself citing the forensic pathologists at the Shura Base where all the bodies from October 7 were brought for detailed forensic analysis and autopsies stated that none of them, zero, had any signs of rape, sexual violence or genital mutilation. None of them. Zero.
So all these genocidal hoax-actors are proven liars. They are all established proven genocide-actors performing a script to ensure the actual mass systematic pedophilic gang-rape of Palestinian children, girls, boys, women and men continues until they have all been raped to death.
They link to the report which has now been published. Guess what? It cites Shari Mendes and ZAKA's Chaim Otmazgin as part of their cast of genocide-hoaxers, both of whom have been exposed as liars ages ago. Mendes said she saw non-existent fetuses cut from wombs. Otmazgin was forced to admit he lied about a rape he claimed he saw by the AP. Again, all of this was made public long ago and anyone who knows anything about the rape hoax is aware of this, as you can see here and here.
This by itself renders the entire "report" totally useless genocidal propaganda trash.
On page 38 they cite as evidence Otmazgin's claim that he has photos of a metal object inserted into a vagina. But the UN's Patten report, NBC News and Haaretz saw those photos and said he lied about it. I debunked the entire report in less than 10 seconds after I first opened it by just looking for this.

Yet again, a free open-source Chinese AI has beaten all the investor-funded favorites like OpenAI, Anthropic, Grok, etc.
cross-posted from: futurology.today/post/5555646
If you tend towards conspiracy theory-type thinking, you might wonder if the Chinese government is directing its AI sector to use open-source AI to undermine US AI efforts. If they aren't, is it just a coincidence that this is what is happening? Two things seem inevitable to me if the trend of Chinese open-source AI equalling Western efforts keeps up. A) - It will eventually bankrupt the Western AI companies and their investors, as the hundreds of billions poured into them will never be realized in profits. B) The 21st century will be built on Chinese AI, as it will be what most of the world uses.
The former seems more dramatic in the short term, but the latter is what will be more significant in the long term.
Moonshot AI just released Kimi K2: China is not so behind in Agentic AI either it would seem.
British airbase used by Israeli war planes involved in bombing Gaza
At least three Israeli Air Force (IAF) jets have landed at RAF Brize Norton since September 2024, Drop Site reports.
KC-707 “Re’em” jets, which refuel other planes in the air, are said to have landed at the Oxfordshire base on at least nine occasions during trips between Israel and the US.
Of these stops, eight reportedly lasted more between one to three hours potentially indicating that the planes were refuelling.
Re’em military planes have been spotted refuelling Israeli F-35 bombers and two of those which stopped in the UK had also been observed providing refuelling and logistics support to planes engaged in bombing raids, Drop Site reports.
