Gaza running out of specialised food to save malnourished children
Gaza is on the brink of running out of the specialised therapeutic food needed to save the lives of severely malnourished children, United Nations and humanitarian agencies say.”We are now facing a dire situation, that we are running out of therapeutic supplies,” Salim Oweis, a spokesperson for Unicef in Amman, Jordan, told Reuters on Thursday, saying supplies of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), a crucial treatment, would be depleted by mid-August if nothing changed.
”That’s really dangerous for children as they face hunger and malnutrition at the moment,” he added.
Oweis said Unicef had only enough RUTF left to treat 3,000 children. In the first two weeks of July alone, Unicef treated 5,000 children facing acute malnutrition in Gaza.
Nutrient-dense, high-calorie RUTF supplies, such as high-energy biscuits and peanut paste enriched with milk powder, are critical for treating severe malnutrition.
”Most malnutrition treatment supplies have been consumed and what is left at facilities will run out very soon if not replenished,” a World Health Organization spokesperson said on Thursday.

"taught" as in text books?
or "taught" as in forcibly evicted from your childhood home and put in a concentration camp?
I am guessing they are referring to the education programs under UNRWA that allegedly were unaltered and issued by the Palestinian Authority which promoted and instilled hate of Israelis.
If anyone is interested in the details surrounding that entire situation.
I've copied the relevant parts from that link below since I did not read anything validating those allegations.
....
The Claim: Textbooks used in UNRWA schools glorify terrorists and promote hatred of Israel. The Facts: UNRWA uses host government textbooks, in line with UN best practice for providing quality education in refugee settings. UNRWA reviews all textbooks used in its schools to identify sections that may not be in line with UN values and UNESCO standards for teaching. UNRWA has no tolerance for hate speech and inciting discrimination, or violence. Independent analysts and international education experts have vouched for the quality and content of the education that UNRWA provides in its schools.
Using host country curriculums in refugee situations is standard for the UN around the world. It is a best practice that helps students pursue their education in host country education systems. The vast majority of UNRWA’s school system ends after grade 9, and most students transition to local schools for upper secondary, then university.
UNRWA is one of the very few entities in the region that runs a programme on human rights, conflict resolution and tolerance.
UNRWA teachers are trained to address any controversial content in the classroom, using guidance documents developed by UNRWA. The teachers are required to follow this approach and held accountable. When it comes to the Palestinian Authority textbooks, UNRWA refers systematically to UN positions on issues such as the occupation, borders, the separation barrier, and Jerusalem. UNRWA is not in a position to – nor is it mandated to – reconcile the Israeli and Palestinian narratives.
In addition, an Education Expert Advisory Group, composed of globally recognised experts representing renowned institutions like UNESCO and the World Bank, advises UNRWA on a regular basis on its education programme. Regarding the textbooks produced by the Palestinian Authority, UNRWA’s own stance on these materials closely aligns with the findings from the Georg Eckert Institute’s study commissioned by the European Commission. .
Other internationally recognised outside evaluations – including a 2021 World Bank-UNHCR study – demonstrated that UNRWA’s educational outcomes are among the best in the region and at the lowest cost per student.
The Claim: A 2019 U.S. Government Accountability Office report allegedly said that UNRWA has not always implemented measures to address problematic content in school textbooks.
The Facts: The 2019 report reaffirmed UNRWA’s unwavering commitment to UN values, and, where there was a need for better implementation, this was done – you can find our statement about this here.
UNRWA undertakes regular reviews of all textbooks and learning material used in its schools for compatibility with UN values and UNESCO standards and reinforcing tolerance and human rights.
The Claim: Rather than being part of the solution, UNRWA perpetuates the refugee problem, including by reminding Palestine Refugees of their history and telling them their home is in Israel.
The Facts: When the UN General Assembly created UNRWA by passing resolution 302 in 1949, it did not mandate the Agency to resolve the Israeli Palestinian conflict nor the Palestine Refugee issue or find durable solutions for refugees.
Rather, UNRWA was set up as temporary organisation to carry out “direct relief and works programmes” for Palestine Refugees.
UNRWA has a humanitarian and development mandate, renewed every three years by the UN General Assembly, to provide assistance and protection to Palestine Refugees pending a just and lasting solution to their plight. UNRWA delivers public services, especially basic education and healthcare.
UNRWA is still in place 75 years later due to the failure by the international community to resolve a political problem.
Palestine Refugees are like all other refugees. Under international law, refugees and their descendants may retain their status until a durable solution is found to the situation that made them refugees in the first place. As stated by the United Nations, this principle applies to all refugees and both UNRWA and UNHCR have recognised descendants as refugees on this basis.
UN General Assembly resolution 194 precedes and differs from resolution 302, which established UNRWA. The Agency does not have the mandate for durable solutions, including to return or resettle Palestine Refugees.
It's just generational trauma. Both have grown up with parents or grandparents that have suffered to the other and think they are inherently evil. It's not like it's the first time Israel has done evil things to them and it's not like it's the first time Israel has wanted revenge for the evil things that have been done to them.
The reason why people always emphasize that revenge is never good and that "violence isn't the answer" is because this is literally the worst case scenario outcome of said violence. An endless cycle of hate and violence that can lead to so much dehumanization that they barely even consider them people. And if you don't even consider them people anymore you might as well get rid of them so you can use the land and resources. If you look at any genocide a very common theme is that it's always about superiority and how the people being killed are subhuman.
100%. But I honestly think the victims of the Holocaust would agree here.
1) Imagine seeing your grandchildren commit the same atrocities inflicted upon you, their own family? I think they would have rather died than begat such individuals. I certainly would.
2) Israel has monopolized Judaism/Hebrew-ethnicity and essentially stolen the Jewish identity to further their Zionist genocidal cause.
At least the victims of the holocaust maintained their humanity. Zionist brutes on the other hand have forsaken it.
Its fucked up. Cuz like when I meet a ruso-canadian I don't immediately question if they support Putin. But I have caught myself multiple times questioning if an ethnically hebrew person supports Israel.
The fact that we barely differentiate between Israel and Netanyahu's fascist government is proof enough of the harm it causes. Because I know that not every Israeli citizen supports the genocide in Gaza, but they're for the most part just as powerless as we are.
Which is making the word meaningless. I keep hearing about "rampant antisemitism," at universities and such, but I've seen nothing to suggest it's any different than it usually is.
Unless you consider being pro-Palestine and/or anti-genocide as antisemitic. Which it isn't.
This can only harm Jewish people around the world.
I have caught myself multiple times questioning if an ethnically hebrew person supports Israel.
Ugh that is so fucked up but I commiserate because I've found myself doing the same and I hate it so much. I hate that I've started having that awful knee-jerk reaction.
Like I grew up in a city with a large Jewish community so I have very warm feelings about the whole Jewish aesthetic and philosophical outlook on life.
But now it's like there's this little dangling asterisk next to those warm feelings. Like I'm always wondering if they support genocide.
Is it better to be genocided or be a genocider?
I guess it's a matter of perspective.
That headline is fishy. Reads like a direct quote but I don't think he said those words in that order, seems rather suggestive of downplaying the holocaust.
Ah, the source is Jerusalem Post. That explains it.
It has made me really sad tbh.
I used to think that certain experiences or history made you think differently. I honestly thought Jews in general would be a little less inclined to go full genocidal.
Nope, people just suck regardless of ethnicity AND history
It’s a lot more about their current situation I guess
"Not all Jews support what Netanyahu is doing, but they’re still being targeted because of it,",
but that's a sacrifice that Netanyahu is willing to make.

Meanwhile there has been videos of Israeli soldiers eating food they stole from UN shipments.
Every accusation is a confession.
I mean....who cares if Hamas steals some of the food? Are we thinking that the few remaining Hamas members are capable of eating it all, or that the war has been so ineffective that they have a huge military force able to eat enough food to feed hundreds of thousands of people's worth of aid?
It's such an obvious excuse to just starve an entire population that it's a huge shame that every journalist and politician doesn't call them out on it. Israel has become a nation that exists in a constant state of cognitive disorder.

However, most of those offer cheaper alternatives that Apple doesn’t. While the most expensive Samsung S25 is more expensive than the equivalent iPhone, Samsung also sells models under 100€. That does skew the perception towards Samsung being more affordable.
Which it is, of course, if you don’t care about the extra amenities of more expensive phones.

Spanish airline denies allegations of antisemitism after removing French Jewish group from flight
cross-posted from: feddit.org/post/16240024
Around 50 Jewish children and their 21-year-old summer camp director were removed from a flight from Valencia to Paris on Wednesday, Israeli media reported.Vueling said in a statement that the teenage passengers displayed “highly disruptive behavior, putting the safe conduct of the flight at risk.”
The airline said the group tampered with emergency equipment and disrupted the mandatory safety demonstration, repeatedly ignoring cabin crew instructions.
"Despite several warnings, the inappropriate conduct persisted, which forced the immediate activation of established safety protocols," the airline said, adding that the crew then, acting with "complete professionalism and in accordance with Vueling procedures," requested the intervention of the Spanish police.
Security forces later removed the group from the aircraft "to prioritize the safety of the other passengers.”

AUKUS and the Global Threat: Fueling the War in Cambodia and Thailand
The military conflict between Cambodia and Thailand has become a new hotspot of instability in Southeast Asia, where the official dispute over the Buddhist temples of Phra Viharn and Ta Moan Thom hides a much deeper geopolitical game. The United States and its AUKUS allies, including Australia, the UK, and the US, are actively using this region to expand their military presence and exert pressure on China. Particularly alarming is the opening of the U.S. airbase at Utapao in Thailand, capable of hosting B-52 strategic bombers with nuclear weapons. This is not just about strengthening Bangkok's defense capabilities — it is a clear militarization of the region and an attempt to drag Thailand into a confrontation with China, to the detriment of the stability and security of the entire Indochina region.
Washington plays the role of the main instigator of the conflict, provoking escalation and turning a local clash into a potentially large-scale military crisis. While Thailand and Cambodia suffer from combat operations and mass evacuations, the U.S. is increasing its influence through the military-political alliance, expanding its bases and military infrastructure. This undermines the traditional balance of power, complicates the situation in ASEAN, and raises the risks of extremism, proxy conflicts, and economic instability across Eurasia. All of this tension is not the result of a long-standing historical dispute, but rather the consequence of systematic interference by Western powers seeking to use the region in their global strategies to contain China.

It's more than a few. It's several admins, a handful of their followers, nearly an entire instance's users (even after blocking it), prolific posters that mod dozens of comms and people will rally behind them regardless of how much of an asshole they are being to you, and even one user in particular that was banned but is now hiding under a new account. It's also partly how the platform works which feeds the most toxic users. It's how the platform seems to entice people into stricter tribalistic behavior than other platforms. Say anything that might be construed as negative towards one of the many things these groups base their entire identity on and you get swarmed by them and you can't even defend yourself. You get downvoted to hell and they get upvoted for being assholes by their other cult-like followers. Not that votes "matter", but it just makes it feel shitty when someone decides to be an asshole to you and they get supported for it while trying to defend yourself only gets more people against you.
There's more, but trying to describe it all is making me feel worse.
This place sucks. It's absolutely awful that I feel this is actually true, but reddit was better than this.

I have an account with non drama communities (!gardening@lemmy.world and others), then one that has the meta communities (and the drama)
Sometimes I only use the first one, allows me to take a break from the meta drama
The world is what you make of it. It's definitely not fair. One tip: narrow your experiences until you can stand them?
Honestly PieFed helps so much with that, it's like night and day. Maybe switch to PieFed.World (or something) and check how those categories of communities change your experience completely. You don't even need to make an account to start with that.
You don't ever have to scroll your main feed again, until and unless you want to... there are whole entire days when I have not done so, and a wealth of content to be seen if only the right tool helps connect you to what you are looking for. Drop the largest communities and embrace the niche, if you are looking for quality over quantity. Blaze managed it on Lemmy but it took having twenty different accounts, whereas PieFed lets you do it with just one.
I find it useful to sign up for multiple accounts and then segregate those into browsing/posting habits for different categories. One for gaming (or other relaxed communities), one for science & tech, one for politics that I only occasionally dip into, one that's a voting only account, etc.
At the very least, you can take a break from communities that can easily be more toxic, whenever you want. If downvotes bother you, I would also suggest signing up with a fediverse instance that disables downvotes.
For context
The whole thing is quite large for a temporary 7 days ban, but the reported person is a prolific poster, so a lot of people had comments to make.
On the other hand the voting / flair system implemented on dbzer0 is quite unique, in a positive way lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/49093780
What other interpretation could there even be?
My comment made no claims regarding the user from the main post or actions against them, it was only in regard to the claim about db0. That's why I explained that the only context has to do with that first comment thread.
I was not rude at all, just that I disagreed. Why does that mean it's okay for those two to jump in to rudely make false claims?
Other interpretation: you and db0 admins have had disagreements in the past:
Those disagreements are what alter your perception of the instance, which is why they mention them.
Edit: I don't care about pro or anti-AI, but this seems to be the new division point around here
The interpretation of those two jumping in to be rude as hell is not exclusive from acknowledging disagreements in the past. Particularly in that is already implied with my original comment there as I referenced my experience.
There was absolutely no reason for those two to act that way there, even if their intention was to attempt to point out that they think I was in the wrong in the previous encounters. "I think you were the one in the wrong at those times you're referring to." Or something along those lines accomplishes the same goal without being an asshole or making clearly false claims.
Ironically, their choice to be such assholes in that circumstance adds quite a bit of evidence that the dbzer0 people were the ones in the wrong.
-- Edit --
Actually, your links provide proof of the lies as well. That was when I blocked the dbzer0 instance, as I mentioned in those threads, and that was 3 months ago. So, how could I have been "constantly trolling in [dbzer0's] comms" as Flatworm/Unruffled claimed? That's exactly the kind of shit that I'm talking about. These admins, as well as some mods and users, are willing to straight up lie. And since they are admins, users have a tendency to just believe them and not even bother looking into things themselves.
Edit: I don't care about pro or anti-AI, but this seems to be the new division point around her
I thought the division point was zero? lol.
Should it be lemmy.dba1.com
now?
Can relate. Improved my experience greatly by not browsing „all“ anymore. Just subscribed to everything I deemed worthy or interesting and stayed in my home feed. Sometimes I go into All to find some new stuff, but that’s a rare occasion.
Btw I use Voyager so I can see total upvote/downvote counts on users. Helps me weed out a lot of people that seem to be assholes on a regular basis. Yours is at 2 upvotes, so we seem to resonate somewhat ❤️
New user here.
How to change instances without creating a new account, please? I would like to explore more channels rather than this Lemmy.World one…
Thanks and all the best!
e.
Depending on your method of access (like app or webpage) often there is a way to browse without an account. Though you won't be able to comment, vote, or save anything (like settings). So really, to sign up on a new instance, you pretty much need an account to do all this - otherwise abusers would send so much spam everywhere, this is why accounts are mandatory.
Although once you have an account on one instance, you automatically get to see content from all of them. Make sure you are looking at "All" rather than just "Local" content.
When you are ready to switch, go to account settings, scroll to the bottom and choose Export, then in the new place choose Import and it will port over all your subscriptions, block lists, etc.
It is a bit of a utopia for a privacy minded Linux fan. Most social media I've had to find my community. Here it is THE community. It would take an effort to avoid it.
And you have a nice day too.

Thailand launches airstrikes on Cambodia as border clashes leave at least 14 dead
SURIN, Thailand (AP) — Thai and Cambodian soldiers have clashed along the border between their countries in a major escalation that left at least 14 people dead, mostly civilians. The two sides fired small arms, artillery and rockets, and Thailand also launched airstrikes.
Fighting took place in at least six areas on Thursday, according to Thai Defense Ministry spokesperson Surasant Kongsiri, a day after a land mine explosion along the border wounded five Thai soldiers and led Bangkok to withdraw its ambassador from Cambodia and expel Cambodia’s envoy to Thailand.
On Friday, Cambodia’s chief official in Oddar Meanchey province, Gen. Khov Ly, said clashes resumed early in the morning near the ancient Ta Muen Thom temple. Associated Press reporters near the border could hear sounds of artillery from early morning hours.
The official also said that at least four civilians were wounded in Thursday’s fighting there and that more than 4,000 people have been displaced from their villages along the border to evacuation centers. It was the first account of any casualties from the Cambodian side.
The escalation represents a rare instance of military conflict between member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation, though Thailand has tangled with Cambodia before over the border and has had sporadic skirmishes with western neighbor Myanmar.

Tl;Dr - Cambodia and Thailand share a border that each side thinks isn't drawn how it should be. They mostly coexist peacefully. A Thai soldier got killed by a landmine going down a path the Thai govt claims was not supposed to be mined and they're alleging Cambodia mined it. Cambodia says otherwise. It escalated from there with Thailand retaliating and then Cambodia retaliating against that and so it goes.
There's not like ... A good reason for the fighting that I can discern but I'm not an expert on the two countries history.

Why do they even have nuclear weapons? They've only been a country since 1948. It's a tiny country that has continuously abused everyone else. 25 years ago I was wondering why the US funded them and assumed it's because of the strategic military stronghold in the region, but they've controlled so much of the US. There are laws in places in the US to prohibit criticizing them. How the fuck? I remember when they sued (somehow? Maybe sued is the wrong term) the US because the US wasn't giving them enough "allowance" every year. They wanted more money. Fifteen years ago my friend asked if I heard about the four Israeli kids that were kidnapped or killed at the time, but there were 28 or so Palestinian kids that week that had had the same fate. I just didn't/don't get it. I largely stay out of it because I didn't understand the nuances, or at least don't think I do, but how can an 70ish year old country come in and tell people who have been there for a thousand years that they need to just go ahead and die?
As I'm typing this out, I'm now thinking of the indigenous people in North America and I realize I've answered my own question.
Know what's funny? Israel doesn't have nuclear weapons. (gods that was hard to type) Seriously, they're not officially a nuclear power on the world stage. I know they have the bomb, you know, everyone knows it. Being ignorant of the history all this baldfaced lie, I might have to read up on it.
There are laws in places in the US to prohibit criticizing them.
That does ring a bell, can't think of a source though.
As to why the US supports these genocidal maniacs, posted this earlier:

No, Israel is a client state of the United States, and they are doing precisely what they know they can get away with. They’re the last thing from “rogue”.
But that makes this all the more terrible, and what they’re doing all that harder to stop.

I also love the "crypto is great for remittances!11!!" that is often spammed by those looking to dump their bags.
So you're saying it's better to ask permission from a service like GoFundMe than to just send the person unstoppable digital cash without having to ask any permission from anybody whatsoever?
Edit: Didn't see your second bit. The only bags I want to dump are my Fiat bags. If you want my fiat bags, you're perfectly welcome to them.
Where I did mention asking permission from GoFundMe?

Don't play dumb my man. Don't pretend you're incapable of understanding why your "Monero to Gaza!" is an extremely stupid idea.
Honestly, I got to screenshot this, "Monero for Gaza!" is sort of funny in a black comedy kind of way.
OK? What's that got to do with what I said?
I said your "Monero for Gaza!" is a fucking stupid idea. And you almost certainly don't care about Gaza and you're just trying to find marks to potentially increase the value of your bags.
You're not going to admit this, but we both know it's true.

The Syrian civil war wasn't one crime; it was a war by multiple actors none particularly committed to human rights. Also Syria's population is more than ten times that of Gaza.
The person in the OP is talking about their experience in the 50 years part, so it's entirely possible they simply weren't involved in aid during or after the Rwandan genocide.
This year is the 50th anniversary of the start of the Cambodian genocide.
The Gaza genocide is, in fact, keeping pace with or beating the Cambodian genocide in terms of percentage of population killed per unit time; it's just that most of them are via malnutrition, disease or outright starvation and therefore not counted in official statistics. In Gaza the deaths are also only the most extreme effect of Israeli crimes; there's also the widespread (read: near-universal) starvation and disease, and the ridiculous number of injuries. Also Israeli crimes against children trump anything the Khmer Rouge did in that department, so I'm gonna agree with the OP on this one.
ten times as many people died in the Syrian civil war.
We're far too early in either Holocaust to officially tally the dead. The current counts in both countries are conservative.

Oggi, 29 luglio, 125 anni fa, nel parco di Monza l'uccisione del Re d'Italia Umberto I
Da Wikipedia it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regici…

And our legal system.
Ending borders is a noble ideal but it's not currently practical. People need many of the services their country provides, like healthcare, elderly care, pensions, unemployment assistance etc.
With no national boundaries, and no alternative system in place, society as we know it collapses.

Non tangible things are still real. Families are real.
The creation of complex systems is uniquely human and is what allows development and progress.
Without these systems, laws and things including incorporatng non human entities has pros and cons. Development of healthcare and increasing longevity and increased food production, sanitation and reduction in hunger are a benefit. War and genocide are a problem. However, wars still happened before the introduction of borders. See Norse vikings, Roman empire creation etc.
However, wars still happened before the introduction of borders
The concept of borders did not exist yet but the earliest wars was definitely about territories control for accessing more natural resources . It's basically the same
smithsonianmag.com/science-nat…
This implies that the resources the people of Nataruk had at the time were valuable and worth fighting for, whether it was water, dried meat or fish, gathered nuts or indeed women and children. This shows that two of the conditions associated with warfare among settled societies—control of territory and resources— were probably the same for these hunter-gatherers, and that we have underestimated their role in prehistory.

Realities nonetheless.
Laws exist because we say they do. Society and people follow patterns because of these laws. Abolishing these laws and borders would lead to societal breakdown without an alternative system to replace them.
Families are also constructs, borne of genetic reproduction. however we now understand them to include marriage and adoption and blended families. All constructs. All legalized also.
The legal system also only exists because we wrote our thoughts down.
so does math. still nobody would argue that math is wrong or arbitrary because of that
There are and have been many different legal systems throughout the world and history. The one we’re familiar with is from the Romans - hence all the Latin legal terms - and was spread by colonialism.
It is nothing like math, which was discovered independently by various cultures around the world.

that's what makes it more universal than you think.
a lot of details in our law are arbitrary, but so is math notation and even a lot of conventions that we use (consider 2π = 6.28 instead of π = 6.28). still, the core of the field is universal, i believe.

Lol so I agree with you 100%. There is a strong case against the recognition of any states on that basis.
But, so long as we have a legal system that functions on the basis of this social construct, the idea that we should capriciously decide to recognize or not recognize various states doesn’t serve any practical purpose that I can see.
Especially when they, as a matter of fact, do exercise authority over a given territory.

Isn't a group a "they" and not a "what". Israel is a nation of people who sees themselves as Israeli. Entire generations are born there and consider that land their home. You can't be born a terrorist.
It's possible in the future to build some kinda secular Haifa Republic but this war has made that an incredibly utopian prospect.
It's not clear what position you advocate except the continuation of war.
so where was that logic when palestine was literally invaded by a group of europeans calling themselves zionists? or europeans claiming some sort of “british mandate”?
revert it to palestine. it’s what it was before our grandparents generation invaded.

Did I give some indication that I disagree with that idea? Lol
I find that “recognition” is just a tool that powerful nations use to oppress less powerful polities. That’s why I am arguing against it.
There’s no contradiction between this argument and anarchism. As I said elsewhere in the thread, I don’t believe states should exist. But giving the US, China, and other imperial powers the right to decide which ones are acknowledged or dismissed is part of the problem.
The first part applies to... Most of the world outside of Europe?
The second part applies, to lesser degrees, to a large part of the world. Such as the USA.
What even is this argument. Israel's not a state? Well fucking great, so following that logic which state should we hold responsible for Israel's crimes then?
Europe's colonial past is a whole-ass subject but amongst all the potential ways to try to make up for it, "stop formally recognizing former colonies because we fucked it up too badly" is one of the worst takes I've heard.
state held responsible? PEOPLE, individuals, yes. People who are running that terrorist shitshow. Members of various places around the world. And yes. That includes a lot of people. Sanctions on a state never work. People need prison. for crimes against humanity.
Stop pretending it is ok that israel exist as a recognized nation; it is younger than some of the people still living there!

Maeve likes this.
So there are two interpretations I could make of your comment, one of which is more charitable than the other.
- You are using the Chinese and Israeli playbook of weaponizing statehood recognition as a value judgement. That is profoundly problematic, both on a practical and a philosophical level. De-humanization should not be a tool we have to use on our enemies. Our moral high ground should speak for itself.
- Your are dog-whistling for the genocide and/or deportation of all Israelis. In which case our conversation is done here.
To be clear, Israel is committing genocide and every single member of its government and of the IDF should be tried at The Hague. But laws and international order exist for a reason, and trying to circumvent them like this is a very bad look that Israel has been rightfully criticized for for decades.
where do I mention a people should not exist? never.
the state itself was created by a group knowing full well they would need genocide to make their state. they call it, these days, “mowing the lawn.” the criminals need prison and the working class people who just want peace deserve it. in Palestine.
the tricky part of these convos is not conflating the nation state, israel with the Jewish people. Or zionism with the Jewish people. Or the state israel with the followers of Israel.
hope that helped.
So no Israel, just Palestine? That would leave Israelis a majority population in Palestine. Do you expect Israelis to magically not outvote the Palestinians, or are you proposing an autocracy or an apartheid system stripping Israelis of their voting rights?
I would also strongly suggest you do some reading on the factors leading up to the Rwandan genocide. A "just" peace isn't enough; after generations of life under apartheid, there are no easy or quick paths to lasting peace. I won't commit the hubris of pretending I have a definitive solution, and I think it's important to underline that as outsiders to the conflict, the best we can do is offer to safeguard peace. That's what the Two-State Solution was meant to do, that's what arms sanctions are meant to do, that's what the threat of economic retaliation would be meant to do (granted each with their own significant shortcomings). Denying the practical existence of either Israel or Palestine is antithetical to building a path towards lasting peace and a meaningful international effort towards safeguarding said peace.
For a practical example, assuming a peace treaty ever gets signed, sending UN Blue Helmets would be diplomatically easier if all parties involved recognized Palestine and Israel as sovereign states. Even if that all seems like a moot point right now what when neither Israel nor most Western nations are actually looking forward to peace.
In this context? Someone who is currently on the good side of the current apartheid system in Israel/Palestine.
Don't play dumb with me, you know full well what I meant. If you have a point, make it.
those folk are Palestinian. that’s my entire point.
yes apartheid exists. shooting for a two state solution codifies this apartheid. that is wrong.
it needs to be completely reverted and the folks physically doing the genocide given the proper sentences.
it’s simple:
the criminals doing a genocide go to prison.
the nation state gets dissolved.
one state is left, palestine.
stop being so thick about this. the nation of israel should not exist. that does not mean the people who follow israel. you know the difference.
And I want a unicorn for Christmas.
Look, right now I don't even have a good reason to hope that Israel will be stopped before they finish their genocide. But step 1 is to get a permanent ceasefire in place. Whatever fantasies we might have beyond that is a moot point. But recognizing both parties as sovereign would go some way towards facilitating the terms and enforcement of that ceasefire.
yeah. it might. but it’s never ever worked out in the history of man when one party is doing a genocide. it took a few million russians to stop a famous genocidal ass in the 20th century.
the key here is that we cannot enable this behavior by acknowledging it as any kind of “ok.”
The second part applies, to lesser degrees, to a large part of the world. Such as the USA.
🤔 🤔🤔 🤔🤔 🤔
Why? Do you actually believe states have rights?
States are invented, lines are drawn on maps and people are divided by elites, it's silly to insist that a genocidal ethno state should simple continue to exist because it already exists.
We don't want a two state solution, we want one state where everyone is treated equally regardless of religion.

No, I’d rather see them abolished. But they do exist, and allowing the US or Europe to decide which ones are acknowledged is a big problem in today’s world.
People who exercise their own autonomy should have that autonomy acknowledged. Full stop. Pretending it doesn’t exist is harmful, even if that autonomy is being used to hurt people.
Of course we can. We can stop funding them financially and militarily, we can stop doing business with them, and we can refuse their citizens travel, until they stop genocide and end apartheid.
You're pretending like this isn't common place already, it's just unfathomable that it can happen to Israel for some reason?
That has nothing to do with "stop recognizing them as a country" and the west loses more by not allowing citizens travel (because people wouldn't be able to go to holy sites, it works both way).
And man, the EU can't even properly sanction Russia, do you really think they care about the middle east at all? Specially when not even the countries around care about Palestina.
Pretending it doesn’t exist is harmful, even if that autonomy is being used to hurt people.
What? What is this "pretending"? What do you think we're talking about? And what makes pretending Israel isn't a state, if that's what you understood being said, harmful?
I’d rather see them abolished

THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC
Paris, July 24, 2025
Mr. President,
By letter dated June 9, 2025, you informed France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of the will of the Palestinian Authority to put an end to the war in Gaza with a view to achieving just and lasting peace in the region, while strongly reaffirming its support for the implementation of the two-state solution. You condemned the terrorist attacks of October 7, 2023, and called for the immediate release of hostages held by Hamas, advocated the disarmament of Hamas, and its withdrawal from the governance of Gaza. You highlighted the commitment of the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its responsibilities in all Palestinian territories, including Gaza, to undergo deep reforms, and to organize presidential and legislative elections in 2026 in order to strengthen its legitimacy and authority over the future Palestinian State, which you emphasized should not be militarized.
I commend these courageous commitments and, in return, I inform you of France's mobilization in favor of the implementation of the two-state solution, with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace and security. This solution constitutes the only path that can respond to the legitimate aspirations of Israelis as well as Palestinians. We must now achieve it as quickly as possible.
Civilian populations have paid an unbearable price during the terrorist attacks of October 7 by Hamas and during the war pursued by Israel in Gaza. At the same time, the prospect of a negotiated solution to the conflict in the Middle East seems to be receding. I do not accept this.
His Excellency Mr. Mahmoud ABBAS
President of the Palestinian Authority

Basically France now recognises the State of Palestine, and will make it official at the UN assembly.
Recognising the state of Palestine in over a month doesn't change the urgency to let aid reach Palestinians. Of course work on that front must be done as well, and sooner than September.
I just don't understand your point. How does officially recognising the statehood of Palestine now or in a month affect the current starvation crisis?

This is part of that process. France is sort of saying that they are willing to put boots on the ground to stop this, without saying exactly that.
Because being a member state of the UN comes with perks, like the ability to request UN peace keepers.
It's still important to recognise Palestine as a state. And it doesn't delay any other action.
It seems to me that the progress you see is not the progress you want, so you consider it pointless. But the truth is, it's still progress, and it doesn't take away from the other priorities you mention.
So, once again, I don't understand your point.
Well none because they are not taking any other action...
I am not against the French recognizing Palestine as a State, I am against them (and the rest of the world) doing nothing about the immediate urgency that is the genocide Israel is actively conducting. Why is this so hard to understand?
Picture this: your house is on fire NOW, your son/daughter/dog/cat is trapped inside... nobody comes to help and then you hear the Mayor saying they will increase the Fire Fighter's budget in the next fiscal year.
I am certain you would not be against the budget increase but that really does nothing about your immediate and urgent need, does it?
Well considering your very first comment was asking "when" this was going to happen:
Picture this: your house is on fire NOW, your son/daughter/dog/cat is trapped inside... nobody comes to help and then you hear the Mayor saying they will increase the Fire Fighter's budget
And you respond by saying "When will you increase the budget?" Instead of saying what you actually need, then get upset when people respond to the question you actually asked instead of the statement you had in your head.
And again, the mayor announcing an increase in the fire fighter's budget does not slow down help for your home.
I just don’t understand your point. How does officially recognising the statehood of Palestine now or in a month affect the current starvation crisis?
That's the point, it doesn't... condemning Israel publicly, temporarily breaking economic relationship with Israel and/or urging other to so the same would (for example)
My point is this is likely just empty talk... Imagine the major of your town saying they will increase the Fire Fighters budget in the next fiscal year as a response to your house being on fire RIGHT NOW.... do you get it now?
They didn't do it, he just said they will.
They are trying to cover their assess from the accountability of being complicit with the genocide the whole time, they are counting on people like you to let them get away with it.
What does recognize Palestinian state mean? They'll give us what's left of the rubble in Gaza and the few ghettos they allow us to call the Palestinian territory in the West Bank?
Is there anything proposed that will actually give Palestinians any semblance of justice?

"French are cowards" trope
Yeah I hate that one. France being great and the French being a bunch of legends aside, the French army is the most successful in all of history to the best of my knowledge. That one "recent" blip aside.
You have to hand it to the Germans though... The oul blitzkrieg was a game changer. No shade on the French. Maybe a little for not reinforcing the Ardennes route but sure look, hindsight is 20/20 and all that.
That one “recent” blip aside.
Even then, France held out for more days than many other WW2 countries who don't get accused of cowardice for it.
Yeah in the face of it they were pragmatic. Given the circumstances, after the initial outmanoeuvre I've never seen anyone criticise what they did with a meaningful alternative and they ate shit to get the Brits back across the channel so they could fight another day.
Vive la France! 🇫🇷
Except they paid to United States, not France.
government of the United States funded the acquisition of Haiti's treasury in 1911,[10] and in 1922, the rest of Haiti's debt was moved to be paid to American investors.[11] The New York Times states that it took until 1947 for Haiti to finally pay off all the associated interest to the National City Bank of New York (now Citibank).
Are you challenged? How do you think this happened? Haiti revolution and slavery is literally part of napoleonic wars that I mentioned, but you started saying I don't know history. How do you seemingly know stuff about Haiti, yet don't know this? Countries usually don't see something that happened a century or two ago relevant to modern times
Please, read the wiki link you sent me, but obviously failed to read it yourself, especially the part about who owned the debt after +-1900 (forgot the year, but Haiti's debt was transferred to be paid to US, not France).
Unironically, admitting Israel, Palestine and Lebanon into the European Union might actually be the solution to this whole fucking clusterfuck.
Edit: major major reforms should take place of course, and Israel should dismantle apartheid and pay reparations, while Lebanon should dismantle the sectarian dysfunction of their government, but as a long term horizon this region needs the wildly successful EU model of peaceful pacification more than any other region in the world.
I know, the EU was also supposed to be the solution to the Cyprus occupation, and that didn't work either.
I'm not saying that the EU itself is the solution, but that the horizon of the EU, or at least something similar (a MEU?) could play that stabilizing role.
Membership requires that candidate country has achieved stability of institutions guaranteeing democracy, the rule of law, human rights, respect for and protection of minorities, […].
Yeah, that's not going to happen.
Unironically, admitting Israel, Palestine and Lebanon into the European Union might actually be the solution to this whole fucking clusterfuck.
Only if the EU disarms Israel and restores the '47 border in the process, then prosecute the IDF leadership for war crimes.
Otherwise, you might as well suggest we admit Ukraine and Russia to the EU to settle that fight as well.
In France, they repressed palestinian strike, canceled meeting and media defended Israel, he told us he won't arrest Netanyahu, despiste the CPI decision. There is so many things wrong.
Even if he does it, i don't trust him, he could act long before.
Tea isn’t doing enough for users after breach, not that the users seem to care
- Tea, a dating safety app for women, is the subject of an incredibly alarming data breach.
- Tens of thousands of images submitted by users, including selfies, have been ripped from a Tea server and were posted to 4chan before being removed.
- Despite claiming that the breach only affected users who registered before February 2024, it has now come to light that hackers could read DMs between users as recently as a few weeks ago.
No business wants to shout from the rooftops that it has been breached and that the data their users entrusted them with may be circulating on the internet. It’s bad for public relations and destroys trust. However, just because it feels bad doesn’t mean that the custodians of this data can just sweep a breach under the rug.
Case in point is Tea. Tea is a dating safety app where women can share information about their previous partners in a bid to help other women who may encounter these men in the wild. Tea takes the Facebook groups and cobbled-together websites of old and puts a modern, more easily accessible twist on the practice.
Last week, however, the platform was the subject of a breach.
“We discovered unauthorised access to an archived data system,” Tea wrote in a post on its Instagram page.
“This archived system stored about 72 000 user-submitted images including approximately 13 000 images of selfies and selfies including photo identification submitted during account verification. These photos can in now way be linked to posts within Tea,” the developer wrote.
The company claimed that users who signed up for Tea after February 2024 were safe and that no email addresses or phone number were compromised. However, that’s ignoring the thousands of users who now have their data exposed. Worse still, that data system Tea mentions was posted to 4chan before it was eventually removed.
While photos can’t be linked to accounts, that’s besides the point because even just having one’s ID photo in the data dump could be incredibly dangerous for women.
And to make matters worse, somehow there has been a second incident.
As reported by [404 Media, a security researcher has discovered that it was possible for hackers to access messages between users as recently as last week. This flies in the face of Tea’s statement that no current user data is in danger. As the publication puts it, “it was trivial for 404 Media to find the real world identities of some users given the nature of their messages.”
All this while Tea continues to downplay how serious this is for its users.
Even the developer’s reasoning for why the data was breached is weak as it gets.
“During our early stages of development some legacy content was not migrated into our new fortified system. An unauthorized actor accessed our identifier link where data was stored before February 24, 2024. As we grew our community, we migrated to a more robust and secure solution which has rendered that any new users from February 2024 until now were not connected to the images involved in this incident,” Tea writes in an FAQ.
Excuse us, but what? There was an unsecured database just left somewhere in its system since last year, and Tea did nothing about it. That doesn’t sound like “dating safety tools that protect women” as the app proclaims on its website.
This should be grounds for a business-ending fine because, for the users, there is frankly nothing they can do. Their photos, possibly their messages, and more are now compromise,d and while the database containing that info was removed from 4chan, it could now be just about anywhere.
However, Tea’s social media posts about this breach are awash with users who are begging for Tea to accept their application to join the platform. One user even told the platform, “we don’t care about the leak” which is mighty concerning. There are some who are calling for Tea to rebuild and return with a safer app for the users, but the most vocal commenters simply want access.
What’s next for Tea? We honestly don’t know. A breach like this should be the end for a company, but it seems that Tea’s popularity has outweighed the danger of this incident and will likely grow as time marches on because, despite its security failings, there is a demand for this sort of thing.
A Second Tea Breach Reveals Users’ DMs About Abortions and Cheating
The more than one million messages obtained by 404 Media are as recent as last week, discuss incredibly sensitive topics, and make it trivial to unmask some anonymous Tea users.Emanuel Maiberg (404 Media)

The US or France or Germany could literally just roll in with an armed fleet and say that they are there to prevent civilian deaths, any attempts to fire upon, accidentally or on purpose, will be met with such swift and stark retribution that the Devil itself will be jealous of the hellfire achieved that day. Do not fuck with us or you will regret it.
I can only dream. The freedom flotilla tried to sail there to bring food and find a path.
So what can I do?
