OpenMower: Let's upgrade cheap off-the-shelf robotic mowers to modern, smart RTK GPS based lawn mowing robots!
cross-posted from: programming.dev/post/36230046
YouTube Video.
Let's be honest: The current generation of robotic lawn mowers sucks. Basically all of these bots drive in a random direction until they hit the border of the lawn, rotate for a randomized duration and repeat. I think we can do better! Therefore, we have disassembled the cheapest off-the-shelf robotic mower we could find (YardForce Classic 500) and were surprised that the hardware itself is actually quite decent:
- Geared sensored brushless motors for the wheels
- A sensored brushless motor for the mower motor itself
- The whole construction seems robust, waterproof and all in all thought through
- All components are connected using standard connectors, therefore upgrading the hardware is easily possible. The bottom line is: The bot itself is surprisingly high quality and doesn't need to be changed at all. We just need some better software in there.

Is 4chan the Perfect 'Pirate Bay' Poster Child to Justify Wider UK Site-Blocking?

In light of increasing pressure on free speech in the UK, new site blocking powers under the Online Safety Act are a cause for concern. The UK may need a Pirate Bay-style poster boy to justify blocking of non-pirate sites, just as the Pirate Bay was used to justify pirate site blocking 15 years ago. After being threatened by Ofcom, the infamous 4chan appeared to swallow the bait this week. A question: who has who on the hook?

Blu-ray ripping on linux
I recently bought a collector edition boxed set of a 1970s martial arts series I love. I can't even play it in VLC, makemkv beta code situation is borked, and handbrake scans all the titles, then says there are none.
I have a local Plex server I wanted to use, no other devices that can play Blu-ray other than an external USB drive I just bought.
Any advice? The Linux box is on 22.04.

HALF? I'd suggest staying away from that study ... either they don't know what they're doing, or some AI made up that article...

the study was performed by Navinci Diagnostics, which has a vested interest in the use of technological diagnostic tools like AI.
the only way to truly identify cancer is through physical examination and tests. instead of wasting resources on AI we should improve early detection through improved efficiency of tests, allowing patients to regularly test more often and cheaper.
VeryFrugal
in reply to GreenKnight23 • • •GreenKnight23
in reply to VeryFrugal • • •it won't because it's an illusion of a test with unverifiable results.
Imagine this, you want to know if you have cancer. you can get results from a biopsy, blood tests, and an MRI. all results are validated by specialist review. it will take 3 months to collect and validate the results. OR, you can run all your tests above and have results in 24 hours but they aren't validated by a specialist.
so the question is, why does it take 3 months and how can we make it shorter without decreasing quality, validity, or consistency?
AI is not the answer.
