Is Soundcloud a good service that I should pay for if I have the money ?

Just asking what everyone thinks of the platform. I rarely listen to music, but it seems like spotify but community edition.
There are paid features but I don't seem to need them (Desktop only user), no DRM protection so I can download if I want, site is not heavy on my humble resources.

This post is just asking if Soundcloud is something I should talk positively about. Moral compass in the high seas.

in reply to zaknenou

I've never used Bandcamp, but that is like the only place I would consider giving money to. On Friday's all profits go directly to the creators themselves, and you own the music. Idk if they use DRM, but they have several audio/encoding options.

Like others said, if you're gonna pirate, then pirate, but if you do wanna give people money then Bandcamp is best. Especially since you're not streaming music when pirating (or at least not from a public service)

in reply to fuckwit_mcbumcrumble

Bingo. I bought an album on Bandcamp and dropped it right into my Plex server.
in reply to Novaling

Its only a few Fridays each year when bandcamp doesnt take their cut, but I try to only buy albums there on those days.
in reply to TwiddleTwaddle

If you're using something like Bandcamp, the artists are already getting thousands of times the money you are giving them from listening on Spotify, I think it's good enough. Even iTunes is thousands of times better.

That's right, a friend told me that he gets a lot more from a single purchase on bandcamp, that from spotify
in reply to AppearanceBoring9229

Spotify earnings are abysmal for anyone other than the biggest artists.
in reply to realitista

And the Bandcamp team deserves their cut for making that happen.

Unlike the Spotify team.

in reply to zaknenou

SoundCloud is a place for high school kids to form a career. So, no.

If you have the money, support the creators directly.
in reply to zaknenou

Personally, I do not think that there is a purpose in speaking well about it. That being said I would also not speak badly about it. My own moral compass would be speak badly about the conpanies that deserve to be gotten rid of and simply use the companies that provide decent services. No need to praise a company for offering a decent service.

Over 300 South Koreans to return home after arrests at US Hyundai plant

US immigration authorities said on Friday that they had detained 475 people, most of them South Korean nationals, when hundreds of federal agents raided Hyundai’s sprawling manufacturing site in Georgia, where the Korean automaker makes electric vehicles.

The Pew Research Center, citing preliminary Census Bureau data, said the US labour force lost more than 1.2 million immigrants from January through July.

in reply to Lee Duna

I’m waiting for Hyundai to close the doors while they sort out specialized skilled labour issues.

Recognising Palestinian state could trigger 'unilateral' action, Israel warns

Israel’s foreign minister branded a recent international push to recognise Palestinian statehood a “mistake” on Sunday and warned it could trigger an unspecified unilateral response, after reports that Israel plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.

Several countries, including France and Britain, have pledged to recognise a Palestinian state on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly this month.

Sounds like a threat from terrorist genociders. No one should listen fuck pissrael

Seeing my country's (already shamefully atrocious) foreign minister and former prime minister next to that ambassador of evil is fucking nauseating! 🤬

It's a different instance, not just a different interface.

Crust is a instance running the latest version of the software, where changes are made almost immediately, which can lead to instability

Piefed.social is running the stable version of the software, and gets updates for specific releases

Like Blaze mentioned, it's a whole different instance, running a different, experimental version of the code. It's the instance we use for testing features for the next version of piefed.

If you want to make an account, feel free to register (I try to check registrations often). However, due to its testing nature, it might be a bit unstable and could not play nice with some mobile apps.

What the fuck capitalism?

It is also home to a traditional Bedouin community, the Jebeleya tribe. Already the tribe, known as the Guardians of St Catherine, have had their homes and tourist eco-camps demolished with little or no compensation. They have even been forced to take bodies out of their graves in the local cemetery to make way for a new car park.

Mobile Hamburger Menu Suggestion

Hi I think the hamburger menu on mobile doesn't look that good I have a suggestion to make the icons bigger and add text to it and make it a actual menu instead of expanding the whole top.
Questa voce è stata modificata (1 mese fa)

Rather than try to rescue the hamburger menu, I created a new always-there bottom menu which is only shown on mobile devices.

Please give it a try on crust.piefed.social/ if you're on a mobile when you read this.

v1.2 is coming very soon, please get ready

There's a massive backlog of awesome stuff that really needs to be released so I'll be doing that within the next week or two.

Along with that there have been several small changes to the API, mostly just fields being renamed. wjs018 has been posting to this community about them as he goes, please take a look if you haven't already. We have two swagger docs available, the automatically-updated one that includes all the changes at crust.piefed.social/api/alpha/… and the old one at freamon.github.io/piefed-api/

There is a new endpoint at crust.piefed.social/api/alpha/… which will tell you which version the instance is running on. You can get the same information at crust.piefed.social/api/alpha/… but /version is lighter on the server so please use that where possible.

Ok, Millennial. ;)

Snark aside, my local library actually does offer digital access for those that want to use a phone or eReader as their primary consumption method. You should check if yours offers the same! Any effort that gets people reading and thinking is a good thing, in my mind.
