I've been to multiple museums in Japan (which is somewhat relevant because Nintendo is Japanese) that either flat out ban all photography (e.g. Ghibli Museum, Aomori Museum of Modern Art) or have some exhibits that you're not allowed to take pictures of (e.g. Tokyo National Museum). One exhibit I wanted to take a picture of had a "no photography" sticker on it, but it was on the opposite side from where I approached so I didn't see it, causing staff to run up to me when I pulled out my phone to point out the sign.
I've also heard from other tourists that "no photos" seems to be rather common there.
Btw, I'm not at all saying that they're justified at all, just saying that there are indeed places that forbid photos for copyright reasons. In my opinion, no photo would ever match seeing the exhibits in person so it is entirely pointless to ban them. Even professional, official scans of pieces don't come close.

I'm not an expert with the AT protocol but it really seems like what Dorsey and co have made is a super complicated protocol that (under specific conditions that cannot exist in the real world), has the potential to be federated in a meaningful way. That way they can steal all the talking points of the fediverse and muddy the meaning of words.
There are also a lot of people on Fedi who will seek out threads like these to explain how line 2532 of the AT protocol handbook explains how having 100% of users on a single server is actually decentralized but I'm sure they're all authentic accounts.

The most interesting development as of late is the progress of Blacksky. It is the first major attempt at creating an independent "Bluesky Instance"–where in that it's functionally the same as Bluesky but doesn't rely on any of Bluesky's infrastructure.

Fediverse
The Fediverse appears to be taking some small, but substantial evolutionary steps in how its organized. As an overarching project, the network has always been a loose collaboration between many different groups and projects. Working together in an anarchic space such as this can be really challenging, but it feels as though things are starting to bear fruit.
Samantha J Smith presents an atmospheric, dystopian track that feels highly reminiscent of Year Zero. Dark, moody, and introspective, this feels like a synthwave introduction to Fallout London.
This track feels like a long, introspective walk across town. There's a sense of personal discovery, growth, and anticipation as the listener travels through this soundscape.
Bluesky / The ATmosphere also has a lot of interesting things going on, and it's worth visiting some of the ongoing discussions happening in their space.
Oeee.Cafe is a federated doodle board where people can share their pictures with each other. It's cute, fun, and simple! The dev talks about it a little bit here.
fedinspect-gtk is a tool for the Gnome desktop written by Andy Piper. You can use it to inspect instances!

Not really that hard to explain, unless I'm missing your point. Wafrn is a federated Tumblr-like platform that allows two-way interaction with Bluesky users (without the need for bridging).
There's way more to Wafrn than that, and it's extremely interesting.
You can treat Wafrn like an independent ATProto platform (like Blacksky). It has its own PDS and AppView (which uses Blacksky's Relay), so it's not at all dependent on Bluesky for obtaining posts (assuming those posts are also published on an independent PDS).
What's unique is that Wafrn is actually ActivityPub-first, meaning it doesn't have any issue interacting with Mastodon users, but doesn't have all the same features of a normal ATProto platform. For example must have your account on Wafrn in order to use it (as opposed to blacksky.community, which lets you sign in with an existing account on another ATProto platform); you can, however, sign into bsky.app (or blacksky) with an account created on Wafrn.
bluesky is technically decentralized, but the way it does it makes self-hosting all but impossible due to storage requirements. because of that, it really isnt. its like how a lot of ai models are 'open-source' even though the training data isnt available and the ai is still effectively a black box. it isnt decentralized unless anyone can make an instance, just like how it isnt open-source unless you have access to everything that makes it work (yes, by this definition chromium and android aren't truly open-source, and I stand by that).
this is literally the exact same for the fediverse. it is near impossible to own your data. if you want to own your data, you have to own others' data, and you're practically isolated in a black box unless you spam hashtags and spam follow people.
big instances still have a massive control over the entirety of the fediverse for whatever category (e.g. micro-blogging) they are in

But once you download It, any changes you make are only local. You cannot edit wikipedia using a non-wikipedia account (sure you can edit anonymously but then your IP functions as your account) and the articles are not systematically stored in different wikipedia instances. There is one Wikipedia.

Just asking what everyone thinks of the platform. I rarely listen to music, but it seems like spotify but community edition. There are paid features but I don't seem to need them (Desktop only user), no DRM protection so I can download if I want, site is not heavy on my humble resources.

SoundCloud is pretty cool, especially when compared to Spotify. I've been really liking the sc.maid.zone/ SoundCloud frontend recently, makes it more private and you can download the songs on the same page you can listen to them. But all in all, it really just comes down to your opinion regarding if you should talk positively about it.

I dont' use any music streaming service because the artists get paid peanuts and won't see my dime when I use them. so i'll support them more directly. Take your money, buy your favourite artists shirt or other merch.
As far as a moral compass goes, I wouldn't give any money to SoundCloud. Much like YouTube, anyone can create an account and upload music. Obviously if you upload popular copyrighted music, it will likely get taken down quickly. But the less popular it is, the more likely it'll go under the radar if someone uploads music that isn't theirs. If you don't pay for premium, then that music will have ads playing between tracks. The creator of the music won't see any money from it, I doubt the uploader would either. As it currently stands, SoundCloud profits from stolen music. Personally I feel better pirating music than I would paying for a SoundCloud premium. I honestly don't understand how GrooveShark got shut down back in the day, yet SoundCloud got to keep running. They are damn near the same exact service.

I've never used Bandcamp, but that is like the only place I would consider giving money to. On Friday's all profits go directly to the creators themselves, and you own the music. Idk if they use DRM, but they have several audio/encoding options.
Like others said, if you're gonna pirate, then pirate, but if you do wanna give people money then Bandcamp is best. Especially since you're not streaming music when pirating (or at least not from a public service)
If you're using something like Bandcamp, the artists are already getting thousands of times the money you are giving them from listening on Spotify, I think it's good enough. Even iTunes is thousands of times better.

Personally, I do not think that there is a purpose in speaking well about it. That being said I would also not speak badly about it. My own moral compass would be speak badly about the conpanies that deserve to be gotten rid of and simply use the companies that provide decent services. No need to praise a company for offering a decent service.

I know this isn't a real source but I know someone who works at this plant and he said most were here on 3 month visit visas.

Out of all the insane raids ICE has conducted, this one is actually quite a big find since it's Hyandai essentially bypassing visa requirements for cheap labor.

I think they will likely get deported without any criminal charges or individual fines, but will obviously get blacklisted from any future entrance into the US.
I am deeply skeptical of your story. This is the kind of thing that's super-easy to prove, and I feel like if they were finding real immigration fraud at this plant, they would be half-likely to actually try to enforce against it since that was exactly what they did the raid for and it would have been detected in 2 seconds once they started checking IDs. And even if not, it would be half-likely that that aspect of the story would leak to the press in some form at some point.
The whole thing where your phone autocorrected a real word to a totally nonexistent word makes me further skeptical of the whole thing. I won't say either is impossible, but they both seem unlikely.
It seems plausible to me. Large corporations doing weird stuff are nothing new. I don't know how much they'd save by doing this, and it's obviously not worth it, especially these days, but I can certainly see them entertaining the idea, or implementing it. Unlikely as it is.
ice is only mostly going after immigrants that are only in one place, the allegedled undocumented or illegals, are probably not going to be working in such public areas.

Yeah, honestly, Trumpian fascism will only make China look good in the eyes of many. Recent surveys in Europe already showed more favourable view towards China than US as Trump regime unravels. South Korea and Europe might invest on China instead.

China was already a great reliable trade partner. They have other issues as does any nation, but attractiveness for trade wasn't really one of them, they were already pretty bangin' in that regard, and the US losing its status as a good investment doesn't suddenly mean that Chinese markets will become always a safe investment by default. I feel like these narratives like "trade relations = loyalty and friendship, there can be only one favorite nation-crush" are sort of for public consumption.

So yeah, in business plan models all over the World, anything which directly or indirectly can be influenced by the actions of the American Administration just got a big chunk of Risk added, whilst no such thing was added to such plans involving other countries, hence doing business with America is now less appealing that doing business with other countries, in a very direct way.
My expectation is that for most countries even the Tariffs themselves (which for most aren't all that scary) haven't as much impact in making America less attractive for business than the sheer unpredictability of the US Administration.

Crust is the server running the latest development version of Piefed. I think it uses a different database and the user authentication isn't connected, so you'd need to register a new account. (Unless I'm mistaken with the details, but I don't think I am.)
Like Blaze mentioned, it's a whole different instance, running a different, experimental version of the code. It's the instance we use for testing features for the next version of piefed.
If you want to make an account, feel free to register (I try to check registrations often). However, due to its testing nature, it might be a bit unstable and could not play nice with some mobile apps.
