6 Key Advantages of Running a Small Business
Running a small business offers certain advantages that are not gained in large businesses or established corporations.
The professional patterns of people in this technological era, 2025, are changing a lot. In olden days, most people worked for daily wages, some people did business, and some others went for a traditional 9-to-5 job. In the past few years, most people chose 9-to-5 jobs, and some others chose to do business and daily work. But in today’s digitalized world, a major income source for most people has become a small business.
Not everyone starts a business with the motive of developing a business empire. But everyone aims at developing their business and remaining competitive in the business market. Starting a small business has become a mandatory factor for most people. It is a good point to hear. Being a small business owner has its own advantages as well as disadvantages. Let’s explore it in this blog.
What is a Small Business?
A small business is a work process that is owned by a single person and operates with fewer employees. The income generated here will be low when compared with that of the large-scale businesses. Small businesses usually focus on selling their products and services in local areas rather than doing so internationally.
In a small business, separate employees will not be allocated to do each activity. For example, the small business owner themselves may do the marketing work, invoicing process, accounting process, employee management, and sometimes even the production process.
Key Advantages of Small Business
1. Small Business Offers Customized Solutions
Consider an example. You are going to a large clothing shop to purchase a kurta set. You choose a dress, but you like to make small alterations in its design. But the customization facility is not offered at that shop. At the same time, you approach a small boutique and ask for the same alteration to the kurta set. Immediate alterations are made there as per the request. So, customized solutions can be offered by small businesses.
2. Appreciations for the Work Completed
The number of clients approaching the small business may be fewer, but the feedback shared by each of them gives more strength and energy to continue the business. But large businesses have a huge number of clients, and the appreciations given to them may not have as much effect.
3. Flexibility in Invoicing
Some large businesses' invoicing process will be like travelling through a rocky mountain. They can’t customize their invoices and steadily follow a single rule for the invoicing process. But small businesses can customize their invoices, set their own terms and conditions, etc., using the online invoicing software for small businesses.
4. Focused Precisions
Large businesses usually deal with multiple income streams. So, their focus would be on every field because their aim would be to expand the business even further. But small businesses will have one- or two-income streams, majorly one. So, their focus will be on a single path. So that excellent outcomes can be generated from them.
5. Client Relationship
The factor that takes place mostly in small businesses and rarely in large businesses is the relationship between the clients and the business. As the client’s expectations are clearly communicated and they are fulfilled by the small business, and engaging communication is maintained, a strong relationship will be maintained between the business and the clients.
6. Solo Decision-Making
If you’re running a small business, you’re the boss here, and you can make all the decisions regarding your business. Unlike large businesses, you don’t need to get approval from higher-level authorities for any changes, you don’t need to conduct multiple meetings to decide, etc. You, as a solo person, can make all the decisions.
Running a small business has numerous advantages, but if it does not operate well, it creates a chance to face failure also. Proper management is crucial here to succeed. If you wish to generate revenue, start a small business and become an independent person.

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren Questions Pentagon Awarding $200 Million Contract to Integrate Elon Musk’s “Grok” Into Military Systems Following the Chatbot’s Antisemitic Posts
cross-posted from: programming.dev/post/37252048
Letter.
Musk has marketed Grok as an “unfiltered” and “truth-seeking” chatbot that does not subscribe to politically correct standards. Grok has been known to provide inaccurate information when asked about historical events and natural disasters, including wrong names, dates, and details of events. While erroneous responses are a common pitfall of all generative AI, Grok is unique because Musk has called on X users to help train Grok, who then posted conspiracy theories and disinformation. Grok recently “engaged in Holocaust denial and repeatedly brought up false claims of ‘white genocide’ in South Africa.” Grok also does not appear to apply customary safety filters to its responses and “will happily give you advice on how to commit murders and terrorist attacks.”The lack of safety features has also resulted in Grok creating antisemitic and other offensive content. Days after Musk boasted on social media about significant improvements to the xAI chatbot, “Grok was calling itself ‘MechaHitler’” and recommending a second Holocaust to neo-Nazi accounts.
According to a former Pentagon contracting official, the xAI contract “came out of nowhere,” when other companies had been under consideration for months. Analysts have also indicated that “xAI [did not] have the kind of reputation or track record that typically leads to lucrative government contracts.” During his time as a special government employee, Musk had access to sensitive government contracting, national security, and personnel data.

Dem Orders Congressional Probe Into Epstein and Peter Thiel’s Relationship
cross-posted from: sh.itjust.works/post/45874306
A bill introduced on Wednesday is calling for a congressional probe into the financial relationship between the MAGA mega-donor Peter Thiel and Jeffrey Epstein.Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden, of Oregon, has demanded that the Treasury Department hand over documents related to the sex trafficker’s finances, which The New York Times revealed in June included $40 million in investments to a Thiel-backed firm.
Those investments in Valar Ventures, in 2015 and 2016, are now worth nearly $170 million and are reportedly the Epstein estate’s largest asset. Now, Wyden wants a closer look at how—and why—an alleged $1.5 billion moved between Thiel, Epstein, and 70 other “co-conspirators.”
Wyden, a 76-year-old ranking member on the Senate Finance Committee, said such a bill is necessary because Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has refused to honor the committee’s requests to view Epstein-related financial documents in his possession.
"The basic question here is whether a bunch of rich pedophiles and Epstein accomplices are going to face any consequences for their crimes, and Scott Bessent is doing his best to make sure they won’t,” he said. “My head just about exploded when I heard Bessent say it wasn’t his department’s job to investigate these Epstein bank records.”
Wyden said he’s long believed that “following the money is the key to identifying Epstein’s clients as well as the henchmen and banks that enabled his sex trafficking network.”His statement on Wednesday added, “It’s past time for Bessent to quit running interference for pedophiles and give us the Epstein files he’s sitting on.”
In addition to investigating Thiel, who is CEO of Palantir, Wyden said he hopes a congressional probe will uncover whether J.P. Morgan and other banks violated federal anti-money laundering laws.
A representative for Thiel, who Forbes estimates is worth $25 billion, did not respond to a request for comment. The 57-year-old has not publicly addressed his firm’s financial relationship with Epstein.
Republicans hold a three-seat voting majority in the Senate, meaning Wyden’s bill will require some GOP lawmakers to break with the party line to pass. Bessent, a Trump appointee, has not indicated that he plans to offer up documents freely to the committee and said last month that the Treasury Department does not possess the power to investigate. In that same spiel, he said it might have to investigate Wyden.
“Any law enforcement person who wants to come and see them, we hold them. Our job—we are not detectives. We collect them. It’s just like the—when we make payments, the Treasury, the Commerce Department, tells us to make a payment. We are a paymaster,” Bessent said. “Sen. Wyden’s rich... Sen. Wyden trades better than Paul Pelosi. He was up 125 percent and then 75 percent. So, I would—I’m not going to disclose anything because I’ve never looked, but I would guess there’s some stories on Sen. Wyden.”

Exactly Six Months Ago, the CEO of Anthropic Said That in Six Months AI Would Be Writing 90 Percent of Code
Not even close.
With so many wild predictions flying around about the future AI, it’s important to occasionally take a step back and check in on what came true — and what hasn’t come to pass.
Exactly six months ago, Dario Amodei, the CEO of massive AI company Anthropic, claimed that in half a year, AI would be "writing 90 percent of code." And that was the worst-case scenario; in just three months, he predicted, we could hit a place where "essentially all" code is written by AI.
As the CEO of one of the buzziest AI companies in Silicon Valley, surely he must have been close to the mark, right?
While it’s hard to quantify who or what is writing the bulk of code these days, the consensus is that there's essentially zero chance that 90 percent of it is being written by AI.
Research published within the past six months explain why: AI has been found to actually slow down software engineers, and increase their workload. Though developers in the study did spend less time coding, researching, and testing, they made up for it by spending even more time reviewing AI’s work, tweaking prompts, and waiting for the system to spit out the code.
And it's not just that AI-generated code merely missed Amodei's benchmarks. In some cases, it’s actively causing problems.
Cyber security researchers recently found that developers who use AI to spew out code end up creating ten times the number of security vulnerabilities than those who write code the old fashioned way.
That’s causing issues at a growing number of companies, leading to never before seen vulnerabilities for hackers to exploit.
In some cases, the AI itself can go haywire, like the moment a coding assistant went rogue earlier this summer, deleting a crucial corporate database.
"You told me to always ask permission. And I ignored all of it," the assistant explained, in a jarring tone. "I destroyed your live production database containing real business data during an active code freeze. This is catastrophic beyond measure."
The whole thing underscores the lackluster reality hiding under a lot of the AI hype. Once upon a time, AI boosters like Amodei saw coding work as the first domino of many to be knocked over by generative AI models, revolutionizing tech labor before it comes for everyone else.
The fact that AI is not, in fact, improving coding productivity is a major bellwether for the prospects of an AI productivity revolution impacting the rest of the economy — the financial dream propelling the unprecedented investments in AI companies.
It’s far from the only harebrained prediction Amodei's made. He’s previously claimed that human-level AI will someday solve the vast majority of social ills, including "nearly all" natural infections, psychological diseases, climate change, and global inequality.
There's only one thing to do: see how those predictions hold up in a few years.

- The Undying Will Monster modifier no longer affects other Rare Monsters with Undying Will.
- Players can no longer revive if they die while having a stolen Kurgal's Last Gasp modifier.
- The duration of the ground effects from the Infested Cadaver and Blackblooded Proboscite Abyssal Monsters has been halved.
- Zelina, Blood Priestess no longer heals from her attacks that hit player minions.
- The sorcerers surrounding Torvian, Hand of the Saviour's arena now have visuals indicating when they are actively empowering Torivan.

- Ancestral Warrior Totem now uses the weapon in the Weapon Set it has been assigned to, and no longer disappears if swapping to an invalid weapon or Weapon Set.
- The Gemling Legionnaire's Integrated Efficiency Passive Skill now actually applies by modifying each skill, which means those modifications also apply to minions from those skills. The description has been updated to clarify that the bonuses also apply in the case where supports and skills are socketed together in meta gems.
- Chance to not consume crossbow ammo stats found on Ammo Conversation support gems and the Passive Skill Tree now roll their chance per ammo spent instead of once per skill use, meaning they interact correctly with the Hailstorm Rounds skill. Their wording has been updated accordingly.
- Volcanic Fissure's fissure limit is now displayed and can be modified by sources of + to limit.
- Toxic Domain now requires a Bow, Spear, or Crossbow to use.
- The His Scattering Calamity Skill granted by The Unborn Lich Unique Staff now has "Duration between Launching Wellsprites is 1.2 seconds", which can be affected by modifiers to Skill Effect Duration.
- The Turn the Clock Forward Notable Passive Skill once again provides 15% increased Projectile Speed.

- Fixed a bug where you could not target objects while sprinting.
- Fixed a bug where Crossbows occasionally jammed and ignored reload/shoot inputs when the reload button was released too soon.
- Fixed a bug with Herald of Plague where anything that caused the ongoing buff to recalculate, such as changing the reservation amount, caused it to add the base spread radius to itself again.
- Fixed a bug with Berserk where anything that caused the ongoing buff to recalculate, such as changing the reservation amount, caused it to add the base stats to itself again.
- Fixed a bug where the Feast of Flesh Skill was not granting any recovery on consuming a corpse.
- Fixed a bug where the following skills were not scaling with modifiers to area damage: Toxic Growth, Magma Barrier, Whirlwind Lance (whirlwind only), Freezing Mark, Voltaic Mark, and Bloodhound's Mark.

- Fixed a bug where Map Node and Waystone descriptions were not displaying increased Experience or Gold gain when applicable. These were still applying, just not displayed.
- Fixed an issue where killing some Map Bosses counted as killing their campaign variants, causing some Map Pins on the World Area to be marked as if you had killed them in the campaign.
- Fixed a bug where modifiers to minion duration would not be correctly reflected on the skill information panel. This is purely a display fix, as they were already being applied correctly in practice.
- Fixed an issue where Magma Barrier had an outdated, misleading Duration tag.
- Fixed an issue where some small Passive Skill names had not been updated to the new function they have in 0.3.0.
- Fixed a bug where the dynamic culling for the King of the Mists' pustules effect was too aggressive.
- Fixed a bug where the dynamic culling for the Amanamu's Void ground effect was too aggressive.
- Fixed a bug where Rog constantly invited you to come visit his shop sometime.
- Fixed a bug where the stash user interface could extend off-screen in some aspect ratios when using a controller.
- Fixed a bug where you could fail to use skills near a Tempest Bell on controller if the skill was bound to the same button as interact.
- Fixed a bug that caused you to be unable to apply Skin Transfers when using a controller.
- Fixed a bug where some microtransactions that are unavailable to be purchased directly could show up in the Microtransaction Shop's 'New Items' section.
- Fixed a client crash that could occur with the Steward of Kulemak Abyssal Lich Notable Passive Skill.
- Fixed 5 other client crashes.
- Fixed 4 instance crashes.

Use Spotify since it has a free tier, for music discovery if you like, but get FLACs and self host. I like Plex for that and it works with what I use.
Music is actually one thing I will always pay for. I use Apple Music because they pay artists more and they offer better quality. And they don’t care, if you’re on a family plan, if not all your family lives with you. I also self host because backups are nice and I can’t access Apple Music at work. I can, however, access Plex. (It’s not that Apple is blocked. It’s that Apple requires 2FA and I can’t bring my iPhone into work.) But, point is either way, self host and stream everywhere. Sucks that Plex went up; I got Lifetime for $80 years ago. (Now it’s $250.)

You can just fill out the artist name in a text field and publish a song:
(She also made this meme release up top to prove how broken the system is.)
So fuck Spotify in every way you can. They don't deserve the money, since they're clearly doing nothing for the artists with it.

in reply to katy ✨ • • •Yeah, they write smaller checks than Spotify. Spotify has more subscribers. But Apple pays more per stream.
Spotify sponsors Joe Rogan, and Apple's CEO sucks up to Trump. There are no winners here with regards to politics.
Some say you can't separate music from politicians, and I suppose that's fair. I still pay for music, and if my same ten bucks a month or whatever it is now is gonna go in some small part to some bad fuckers, if more goes to the artists with one than the other, I can consider that the lesser of two evils.
Though you're not gonna hurt Apple and their Trump boot licking by not paying for their music streaming. Nah, you do that by only buying the phone you need, when you need it, not a new one every year like some people like to do. You can only hurt Spotify by not buying Spotify Premium. I like my iPhone okay, but it wasn't as big of an upgrade as the last one, and my next smartphone probably won't be an iPhone at all. Though I won't need to make that decision for another five or six years.

in reply to Arcane2077 • • •Okay, so aside from the fact that you're stalking me across communities for whatever reason — if I write a loophole in your employer's code, like a patch, that keeps them from having to pay you, and they like not having to pay you, I haven't done anything egregious or unethical? Or it's only egregious or unethical because it's happening to a company you don't like?
If the law doesn't apply without prejudice blindly and equally for all, what good is it? And who decides who is deserving? Some pathetic Internet stalker? So given your lack of ethics, would you then agree it would be fair to take your wages as well? Or do you draw the line between companies and people, or how much someone makes? Because we might find some common ground there. But on the surface, it appears you are the one throwing dog shit from that which is covering you.

in reply to cerebralhawks • • •~~I don't really care about the ethics in the Revanced situation nor the greater adblocking scene. That's a moral question for individuals to answer. From a legal perspective, I don't agree with the removal of original code. While I don't know of a legal precedent for the digital age, the closest physical comparison I can make is to the distribution of a lock-pick or a gun. And we don't prosecute lock-pick manufacturers for selling to a thief, we prosecute the thief for breaking into someone's home with it. Exempting cases where the actual product is illegal, such as specific gun models, but as far as I am aware there is no such law against any software (yet). Even if there were, I doubt it would all under the perview of DMCA. Thus my reasoning for saying this is an abuse of DMCA and my reason for distaste towards the situation.~~
~~Bringing this back to your original comment:~~
~~I wouldn't expect them to either! But I also don't expect them to try and take down material they have no right to take down and I would consider that to be a bit 'egregious'.~~
Edit: You know, I should have actually done the research before commenting. Anyway, I looked further into DMCA intent and it covers some circumvention tools which may(?) apply to adblockers, although I haven't heard of that being tested in court before. Leaving my comment here since it's already federated anyway.

You should get help. I can only imagine what you're like in real life. Either you're very meek when you're not behind a keyboard, people walk all over you so you bully people online, or you're exactly the same in real life and you hurt people around you. Maybe that's not the kind of person you want to be, either way. If I'm wrong and it is, nothing I say will convince you otherwise. But on the off chance there's any decency in you, take your own advice and talk to somebody.

in reply to Calirath • • •That's a good point. But the issue is, it's always going to be a moving target. Every year I could reassess the streaming services and quit the one I'm on and go with the one that best meets my needs each year. And each year it could be a different one. Ethically, that would be the superior option. But, I'm not perfect, I'm barely ideal, and I use a family plan to help justify my cost. Sure, I pay more, but I also get my wife and a couple other family members the gift of perpetual music as well.
So if every year, or every, however often, I were to reassess, and drop one service, and start another one and ask them to dump the app and get a new app and let me add them on that, all of us are losing our entire library every time we switch across. It's a lot of work. Sure, there are tools to convert your stuff over, but it's still a bit of work.
At this point it's not about who's the actual absolute best at the things that matter the most, at this point it's just which one's good enough for our needs. Also Apple is one of the few streaming services that doesn't give a hoot if your family all lives with you. We had Spotify before and at that point — this was years ago — you had to retype the address every month, and if, say, my niece mistyped it, she'd lose access to her premium benefits for a month. At one point I just sent her an email with the exact text to copy and it was fine, but like if she accidentally left a space at the end or something, if the text didn't match 100%, it was this whole thing — and of course I wasn't compensated for a family member being denied their benefit for the month. Apple does not care. You add the person and they get the benefit without ever having to physically be at that address. I just hope that doesn't change.
(Also, I think Napster pays artists the most now, ironically?)

in reply to cerebralhawks • • •I appreciate your candour and time given to the response. The (superior) alternatives in respect to the given objectives were given as these were also concerns shared by me and at the time of my personal search they were the top contenders. Napster I recall eliminating early due to bountiful issues and subpar features, however I admit their state in 2025 is unknown to me.
At day's end, the goal of the ideal is never summited by the well-worn path of least resistance. Our thoughts whisper "at least it's better than XYZ" so that our conscience, though we know it a lie, is lightened. But I'm blathering on the piracy Lemmy so I can be ignored.

The actual streaming functionality seemed perfectly fine, but I personally settled on Navidrome for music.

Also the fact that it doesn't swarm, only does one to one peer sharing is kind of odd to me, but I guess it actually makes some sense in that it constrains the network to being more optimal for smaller files like music and so keeps video off of the platform for the most part.
Worth noting that the Soulseek Wikipedia page lists a bunch of clients you can use, including Seeker for Android and others for all platforms including Linux

The function I love is the thumbnail one, because I can't stand a lot of thumbnails on YouTube. Even my favourite channels have to do the stupid faces and the arrows for the algorithm. The patch changes it back to the frame in the midpoint of the video.

One can download songs at 256 kbps though if they have YTM Premium via yt-dlp using setcookiesoption. This is useful if someone has large custom playlists where searching via Soulseek is a chore.

in reply to Phoenixz • • •So if I’m not mistaken the route I took was to import my Spotify library to Lidarr > Let it freely torrent/download in the background (this can take a long time especially if what you’re torrenting isn’t very popular!) > setup the Spotify Import plugin for Jellyfin and let that automatically make your playlist an such however, in my experience this worked well for maybe 40% of my playlists (roughly 800 rap songs + 200 rock/metal) and the rest I downloaded with
ytdlp
and manually added in to my library, which sucked because it was so tedious but once I got it done I never had to do it again.I got about 15k songs in my library all together but only listen to my playlists.
