Living in the Remnants of Gaza City

Gaza City is a ghost town. Darkness, smoke, and shadows hang over it, illuminated only by the red glow of explosions. The city resembles scenes from apocalyptic films—stories of the end of the world, of human catastrophe, of global wars. Homes stand deserted, streets are emptied, and death encircles us from every direction.

Every morning, new leaflets fall from the sky like snow, ordering us to leave and head south. Most residents ignore the leaflets. Some children collect them—not to read but to burn as fuel for cooking; to boil what little rice or lentils they may have. The irony is unbearable: the same papers that demand our departure now keep our small fires alive.

The US Media Ignores Palestinian Deaths in Israeli Captivity

While the fates of Israelis held captive by Hamas regularly make front-page news, US corporate media almost never reports on the Palestinians who die in Israeli captivity.

Snowflake addon = Tor relay? Oo

I just installed Brave to have some different accs logged, and then I saw that addon... I'm running it right now but... did I just set a Tor relay? Really? It wasn't that easy before :S
in reply to PiraHxCx

also, if someone ends up connecting to me and go straight to cp, it's going to be my fucking address there?? haha

Fyi a snowflake proxy, is when your acting as a entrypoint via tor.

So if you lived in china and when the government restricts internet acess.

If you tried to connect to tor there great firewall would block all public tor entrypoints.

So a snowflake proxy is where a user, such as one who lives in china can enter the tor network via the snowflake proxy to where the 3 hops starts in the onion routing process. Which then anonimizes there traffic, also i believe in certain countrys, such as the US. If someone where to do something illegal via your tor node, you would not be liable because of safe harbor rules.

Which in overly simplified terms.
Is like facebook or snapchat, if a user posts something illegal facebook doesn't get in trouble for hosting it, as long as they follow take down requests they dont get in trouble.

FYI im NOT a lawer but this is what i heard

in reply to Steamymoomilk

Oh yeah, the only problem would be if this simply addon could turn me into an exit node (which is a more complicated thing than just running guard or middle), but being a guard-guard, well, this addon sounds pretty cool 😀
in reply to PiraHxCx

Are you aware that lists of relay IPs exist, and are used to block access to some sites? I learned the hard way (but that was before Snowflake existed, I don't know if it's the case here)
in reply to PiraHxCx

No, I beleive that is just a snowflake proxy, which basically is just used when somebody first connects to the tor network to hook them up to an entrance node. So your computer is not actually acting as a node but rather an intermediary. I would also suggest not using Brave browser because I have heard bad things about it's owner and just their general policies. Many people say that brave browser is really just privacy cosplay. You can just get a copy of firefox and manually harden it yourself using noscript and a vpn. Or skip that and just use tor browser for all your privacy intensive stuff.

My main browser is LibreWolf and I have Mullvad for some other accs. I do however have old stuff that turned disposable now, and I decided to let these logged on Brave out of convenience (since to let accs logged on Mullvad or Tor you have to enable history and cookies and it defeats the purpose of those browsers 😛)
I'm also using Brave to check some stuff because all the aforementioned browsers break some canvas script and I use those for image effects in my site and I'm trying to fix the script so it works on hardened browsers.

The single biggest roadblock for casuals to use Linux

A friend was using a computer with Windows 8.1 (I know lol), and her streaming services stopped working on it. Because she was using an old computer, she couldn't upgrade to Windows 11. So I suggested installing Linux and even doing it for her, but the problem is that most streaming services don't work on Linux. After making that disclaimer and suggesting she use a streaming stick, she decided that her computer is junk and will just get a new one. A win for Microsoft.

But the crux is that if streaming services don't treat Linux as a first class platform, Linux will never be truly mainstream. People say that it's Microsoft Office or Adobe blocking Linux from the mainstream, but Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+, Peacock, etc are the real missing "apps" on Linux.

in reply to SuperSpruce

that's... just wrong. I converted my whole family after being sick of constantly dealing with their viruses and the only thing that didn't work was some game as a service garbage that the particular individual managed to grow out of anyway. all of them have streaming though. netflix only allows 4k on windows with new enough cpu or on smart tvs with up to date app but none of the others I tested did that at the time. If more do that now, none of my family have noticed the change.
in reply to SuperSpruce

Wait, seriously? One can't watch Netflix or HBO or Disney+ on the browser on Linux?

Trump boasts US strikes have wiped out drug boats off Venezuela

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that US military strikes on small boats near Venezuela have been so effective that “there are no boats” left in the area, as Washington faces growing criticism over the legality of using lethal force in international waters. The operations, which the White House says are aimed at stopping drug shipments to the United States, have reportedly killed at least 21 people so far.

Van Jones Sparks Fury with ‘Dead Gaza Baby’ Remarks, Later Apologizes [October 5, 2025 | Palestine Chronicle Staff | palestinechronicle.com]

cross-posted from: lemmy.world/post/36943651

The remarks sparked immediate backlash online, as many accused Jones of turning images of Palestinian children killed in Gaza into a punchline. Critics said the comment reflected a deep insensitivity toward the ongoing genocide and the suffering of civilians trapped in the besieged enclave.

NBC News correspondent Hala Gorani wrote that she had personally watched hundreds of hours of video footage from Gaza and confirmed that the images Jones referred to were authentic and not part of any “disinformation campaign.”

Imam Omar Suleiman was among the first to publicly denounce the comments, calling them “disgraceful and vile.” He said Jones’s words revealed a moral blindness toward the humanity of Gaza’s victims and condemned the attempt to trivialize their suffering while shifting blame to so-called “foreign disinformation.”

The controversy over Jones’s words comes amid growing anger online over the behavior of certain Israeli influencers, who have been criticized for mocking Palestinian victims of war on social media.^[[1] https://web.archive.org/web/20251006002306/https://www.palestinechronicle.com/van-jones-sparks-fury-with-dead-gaza-baby-remarks-later-apologizes/]

While it's certainly important to monitor the condition of paved roads, keeping an eye on the surface will only tell you so much. You also need to know what's going on with the underlying asphalt, which is where an embedded layer of electronic fabric is designed to come in.
