Google is surprisingly unhelpful on this one. I've tried both flatpak repair and apt install --reinstall flatpak to no success. AI suggests to straight up purge flatpak entirely and start anew, but I am wary of it also taking out the app caches, logins, configs, etc, which I'd rather preserve if possible.
Solved. Had to run flatpak remove --all followed by flatpak repair to prune caches, then re-install every app again. But configs and logins seem to remain intact.
If you happen to be using a BTRFS or XFS file system, you might want to try duperemove. It will help you reclaim usable disk space without deleting any files, by using those filesystems' built-in support for data deduplication and copy-on-write. In other words, it will make duplicate files point to the same data on disk, but still work as individual files. Files will appear and function exactly the same, and editing one copy will not change another (unlike with hard links, for example). That way it won't interfere with cases like Flatpak or Python virtual environments where you really need multiple copies of the same files.

Anyone have experience using ADAT to extend their Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 (or similar devices)?
I can buy a used Focusrite Saffire PRO 40 for about 60Euro and wanted to use it to extend my Scarlett 18i20 to get a total of 16 Mic inputs, but I don't have any experience with ADAT and would prefer not to buy something that'll turn out to be a 60Euro brick.

Hello. I’ll use Ardour next week to record a band. I have a Focusrite 18i20 and a Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic, i linked them together as explained in the manual taking care that the 18i20 is the World Clock master.
Just trying to add extra microphone inputs (Saffire PRO 40) to my soundcard (Scarlett 18i20) and wanted to hear if there would be any problems connecting it all in Linux (using ADAT) before I bought the new interface
I've ran a 4 in, 4 out ADAT-CAT5 snake thingy on Linux, so 32 channels in and out. The remote end was synced via Word Clock with the Linux box providing master clock. RME RayDat for a soundcard, RME converters in the remote rack. Worked 100 % flawlessly, I even did live sound on it. ADAT is a 'just works' thing, go for it. You just need to understand that one device needs to be the clock master and others follow that.
You shouldn't have any Linux-related issues with it, ADAT will only be used to communicate between the Scarlett and Saffire.
The only issue you might run into is clock sync: If your Scarlett is your main interface (connected to your computer), and you are running an ADAT cable from the Saffire to the Scarlett, then the Saffire won't have a clock to sync to, so you'll need to run a second cable - e.g. another ADAT, Word Clock (BNC), or something to send clock sync to the other device.
If your second device isn't synced you'll probably hear pops and cracks in the audio coming from it. And, if you absolutely can't get another cable for whatever reason, you can switch the clock master to the second device in your DAW or on the device itself.
Basically, what tasankovasara said, but with a few more details, mostly to underline how important clock sync is. And my experience is the same as theirs - a cable for sound, a cable for clock and it just works.
Also, if you go into a store and ask for ADAT cables and they look at you like you're from the moon, they're also called Optical Cables.
Yes, the Scarlett will just sync itself to the external adat signal. It's the only option anyway because the Scarlett lacks clock inputs and has no adat output the external device could sync to.
You can sync over adat. And for some people it's fine. But I would never trust it for high stakes recording. Digital pops and clicks and smearing SUCK.
I have basically this setup. Word of warning, use bnc word clock. Don't trust adat word clock. I dont care if people say it works fine, its way too risky and plenty of good interfaces have wordclock, if it doesn't, its not worth getting.
Also, adat cables suck ass and are highly fragile. If you dick around behind your stuff and it gets jostled a lot, watch out for problems. If you set and forget and keep the dust off your equipment theyre generally fine.

Adding just 5 more servers would be a blip in terms of the affect on the network. Adding 5 more servers to an ATProto ecosystem with that many fully participating nodes would be an exhausting number of additional messages sent on the network. Meaningfully self-hosting ATProto is a risk to the ATProto network, there is active reason to disincentivize it for those already participating. But it's not just that. The reality is that most of Bluesky's userbase doesn't know or care about or understand the degree to which Bluesky is decentralized, except for potentially as a reassurance that "the same thing can't happen here" as happened on X-Twitter. "Decentralization" is not the escape hatch people think it might be in Bluesky, but it's true that "credible exit" may be. Hi all I have a few TVs around the house and have previously used firestick and stremio setup. I do like stremio tbh but I am trying to decode/deamazon etc so I need an alternative option for the TVs. Not all are smart TVs and I like it that way so accept a small box attached is the cost.
I tend to basically use stremio and cinema HD at a push., and a VPN app. A few uk tv catchup apps. I don’t need recording or storage. I will likely move to some self hosting/serve in the next year.
I am trying to be conscious of my purchases and who I am buying, and also take steps to protect my privacy. I have a few to buy so budget needs to not be on the higher end.
I'd recommend looking at used Nvidia Shields. They're simply the best Android TV boxes available. There are pretty good instructions available to remove all the proprietary stuff from the devices, too.
After downgrading your device, you can debloat it even further and make it even faster (updated october 31, 2023). This manual is written for use with a Windows (10 x64 PC) but you can use ADB on any device Debloat Nvidia Shield TV 8.2.

It does support vp9 and h265, I believe DTS-HD as well but I think that's only for if you use eARC (I only use optical so I have everything convert to AC3). AV1 is not supported afaik, but I have my server do the conversion in realtime with quicksync and serve up h264 or h265.

Got my Jellyfin up and running, using Tailscale, all that good stuff. Running on a linux (arch btw) desktop, downloaded it straight to it, not using Docker. I am able to get into Jellyfin via browser on desktop and on phone, but can't get into it on anything else anywhere else. How do I resolve this? I have been trying to pour over the reading and feel like I'm missing something.

Your Roku should be trying to connect to the internal IP:8096 (Jellyfin port) of your arch device, not whatever your tailscale address is. I don't personally use tailscale so if your setup blocks local access then you may need to solve that first
To use tailscale you'd need to add every device you want to use to your tailscale machines list. It's not an anywhere any machine solution without that.
If you want something more like a proper web service that’s available without Tailscale, you’d need to spin up a reverse proxy or use Tailscale Funnel to expose Jellyfin to the public internet in a controlled way.
Tailscale won't affect local as you can access it via browser and phone, the service is running fine locally. Just check in jellyfin it's bound to the same IP subnet go to Dashboard → Networking and check that it’s set to 0.0.0.0 or your LAN IP (e.g., 192.168.0.xx).

Fyi a snowflake proxy, is when your acting as a entrypoint via tor.
So if you lived in china and when the government restricts internet acess.
If you tried to connect to tor there great firewall would block all public tor entrypoints.
So a snowflake proxy is where a user, such as one who lives in china can enter the tor network via the snowflake proxy to where the 3 hops starts in the onion routing process. Which then anonimizes there traffic, also i believe in certain countrys, such as the US. If someone where to do something illegal via your tor node, you would not be liable because of safe harbor rules.
Which in overly simplified terms. Is like facebook or snapchat, if a user posts something illegal facebook doesn't get in trouble for hosting it, as long as they follow take down requests they dont get in trouble.

No, I beleive that is just a snowflake proxy, which basically is just used when somebody first connects to the tor network to hook them up to an entrance node. So your computer is not actually acting as a node but rather an intermediary. I would also suggest not using Brave browser because I have heard bad things about it's owner and just their general policies. Many people say that brave browser is really just privacy cosplay. You can just get a copy of firefox and manually harden it yourself using noscript and a vpn. Or skip that and just use tor browser for all your privacy intensive stuff.
My main browser is LibreWolf and I have Mullvad for some other accs. I do however have old stuff that turned disposable now, and I decided to let these logged on Brave out of convenience (since to let accs logged on Mullvad or Tor you have to enable history and cookies and it defeats the purpose of those browsers 😛) I'm also using Brave to check some stuff because all the aforementioned browsers break some canvas script and I use those for image effects in my site and I'm trying to fix the script so it works on hardened browsers.

A friend was using a computer with Windows 8.1 (I know lol), and her streaming services stopped working on it. Because she was using an old computer, she couldn't upgrade to Windows 11. So I suggested installing Linux and even doing it for her, but the problem is that most streaming services don't work on Linux. After making that disclaimer and suggesting she use a streaming stick, she decided that her computer is junk and will just get a new one. A win for Microsoft.
But the crux is that if streaming services don't treat Linux as a first class platform, Linux will never be truly mainstream. People say that it's Microsoft Office or Adobe blocking Linux from the mainstream, but Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+, Peacock, etc are the real missing "apps" on Linux.
i don't use it myself so can't be sure but i find it hard to believe it wouldn't work on the latest ubuntu with google chrome.. it did work as of a few years ago.

For most of them you can get 720p on Linux with basic stereo audio.
It was possible to play Netflix 1080p on Chrome, but I think those days are gone.
Unfortunately, I don't see a user-controlled Linux system ever being properly supported in the current DRM / copyright paradigm. There isn't really a solution that satisfies the "rights holders", and even if there were, there is little to no incentive to implement it.

If it's 1080p+, how? If it's 720p, that's not really acceptable to most people.
I think the point of OP is that Streaming services don't care about Linux and downright gimps them, so the apps will "look better". Casual users won't know or care about the technical reasons.
Is your dumb TV new or old? I've been trying to find something to replace my old plasma (it started to make cracking noises, that doesn't seem like a good sign) for a while now, but it looks like every new TV is 'smart'.

The biggest roadblocks are the manual download and installation process of Linux, if we speak about casuals. I don't know how important streaming services are, but besides the usual office and adobe application, certain popular videogames are also a blocker for casuals switching to Linux.

You just needed to install Chrome, not leave the installation with Firefox. Chrome works with streaming services, except one (can't remember which one). All the other ones work.
Why so much downvotes. Streaming services doesn't provide higher quality streams on linux distros, it's common knowledge. Widevine L3 is supported by browser and that's what running when someone streams netflix, disney+ or anything on a browser, firefox or chrome, in linux. Almost all streaming services provide 720p with Widevine L3. On the other hand, 1080p and higher are only available in widevine L1, which has to built into the kernal and certified by Google. Nobody should it's working when the stream is 720p and even 480p sometimes.
And linux kernal WILL NOT BE DOING THAT. The OP doesn't even blame linux for this, they explicitly say to blame streaming services.
Streaming services suck in general if you ask me. Even on windows the apps are ass imo. As an ultrawide user i always hated that i can't zoom in on movies or shows to get rid of the black bars on the top and bottom and fullscreen it properly. I understand that that's a weird edge case but it's just one of the problems i had. With disney+ in particular, even on the windows app i couldn't stream in 4k. I figured i'd try watching on ps4, but the audio would have this weird clipping like once every minute, which wasn't an issue with the hardware, because it also happened on ps5 and with different headphones. I even went as far as buying an android tv box because i wanted to be a good boy and watch it legit, but that didn't work out either, cause the box started getting slow and it would randomly exit the app in the middle of watching a show. So in the end i gave up and started pirating. Their service was so awfull that i saw no other option, which is kind of insane when you think about it. And now i can watch it in my player of choice, and properly fullscreen it on my ultrawide display.
that was probably the issue. drm support in browsers is usually disabled by default on linux, but enabled on windows.
the odd cases where one still didn't work on linux, a simple useragent addon in firefox to flip it to windows has usually worked.
but then, even when it is working, linux clients often still get a lesser product as the streaming sites like to reserve higher quality video to clients with os-level drm, restricting linux to 720p or even 480p.
that's... just wrong. I converted my whole family after being sick of constantly dealing with their viruses and the only thing that didn't work was some game as a service garbage that the particular individual managed to grow out of anyway. all of them have streaming though. netflix only allows 4k on windows with new enough cpu or on smart tvs with up to date app but none of the others I tested did that at the time. If more do that now, none of my family have noticed the change.

If you happen to be using a BTRFS or XFS file system, you might want to try duperemove. It will help you reclaim usable disk space without deleting any files, by using those filesystems' built-in support for data deduplication and copy-on-write. In other words, it will make duplicate files point to the same data on disk, but still work as individual files. Files will appear and function exactly the same, and editing one copy will not change another (unlike with hard links, for example). That way it won't interfere with cases like Flatpak or Python virtual environments where you really need multiple copies of the same files.
