Putin Signs Military Draft for 135,000 Citizens Amid Ongoing Mobilization Plans

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has signed a decree for the 2025 autumn military draft, running from October 1 to December 31, according to a decree posted on the official Russian government legal portal on September 29.

The call-up will target 135,000 Russian citizens aged 18 to 30.

Vice Admiral Vladimir Tsimlyansky, deputy head of Russia’s Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate, said draftees will serve only within Russia and will not participate in Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Previously, it was reported Russia is considering a major overhaul of its conscription system that would allow for continuous draft procedures year-round, as the country grapples with unprecedented military losses in Ukraine, according to the proposed legislative changes, introduced by the head of the Russian Parliament’s Defense Committee.

What access does the average Russian citizen have to unbiased and truthful reporting?

For those citizens with that knowledge, what actions can they take to organize some semblance of a resistance?

At some point you no longer need reporting. Direct observation and word of mouth becomes enough to paint the picture.

For those citizens with that knowledge, what actions can they take to organize some semblance of a resistance?

What they need to do is a general strike.

David Frum, Douglas Murray Secretly Drafted Speeches for Israeli Ambassador

The document states that in the event of the external power lines to the plant being disconnected from Ukraine “a procedure for voltage transmission … from the unified power system of Russia” had “been developed”.

Considering that it's easier to find water on Mars than in Donetsk right now, and Pushilin's explanation as to why there's no water and sewage there was "Ukraine didn't repair the pipes" - I wouldn't really count on Russian infrastructural development to save the day, especially if that's not a propaganda project like Kerch bridge.

So yeah, start panicking.

Not true. Many are trillionaires, depending on the currency you use. I know I'm a millionaire in Cambodia for example.

in reply to Severus_Snape

I hate people who say that online, but this time it's me: this would need to be much bigger news. Much much bigger. But compared to genocide and Trump destroying his country it doesn't even blip I guess.

in reply to sigmaklimgrindset

And what rocket or torpedo would you get for 2.5 million? Deliberately using singular here, because that's about 5 IRIS-Ts or 2 Taurus missiles, which seems like a very unlikely order. Even more so when considering that the government went on record claiming that's not the case. Would you lie for such a tiny order?

If they did a delivery like that every week, I'd be suspicious

in reply to UnfortunateShort

That's just it, I don't know. And the government is being deliberately vague instead of just saying what they are shipping to Israel, or sending auxiliary weapons that are still being used in direct combat.

I pulled that quote because I want to emphasize that it is not as transparent as your original comment is making it seem.

Russian missile upgrade outpaces Ukraine’s Patriot defences

It is a “game-changer for Russia”, said one former Ukrainian official. With Kyiv also contending with slower deliveries of air defence interceptors from the US, the missile campaign has destroyed key military facilities and critical infrastructure ahead of winter.

Ukraine’s air force on Wednesday reported all four Iskander-M missiles fired overnight had eluded the country’s defences and hit their targets.

Live: Israel says it has stopped several vessels from Gaza aid flotilla

cross-posted from: lemmy.world/post/36761957

Israeli navy is moving to block a flotilla carrying aid toward Gaza. Activists onboard are demanding humanitarian access, calling the blockade illegal. Reports say the ships are being shadowed as they approach. Situation is still developing.

But not most!

Is it just me, or are these ships pretty slow? There were around 100 nauts out this morning, so I've been following the story live all day, and now it's bedtime and they're still not there.

in reply to CanadaPlus

Besides being mostly sail boats and old yachts they can't sail at night because Israel has been drone attacking them at night; particularly trying to firebomb their sails.

in reply to Sahwa

I would not be surprised to learn that Russia has plenty of sleeper agents with drones just waiting for a call from their handler to take it out and disrupt air traffic, or distract the security services while another operation takes place.
in reply to Sahwa

Maybe the drones are everywhere and its more like "clouds sighted over critical infrastructure"

In a meeting with US antiwar figures, Iranian Pres. Masoud Pezeshkian forecasted a more intense round of conflict with Israel and the US, and slammed Washington’s intransigence.

For Iran’s leadership, the West’s intransigence had given Israel the green light for another attack. But Pezeshkian noted that Iranian society was stronger following the 12-day war last June. “The last attack brought unity,” he insisted. “Iranians opposed regime change even if they disagreed with the revolution. Even people who criticize us, those people supported our military.”

Pointing to Israel’s brazen assault inside Qatar this September, where it tried and failed to assassinate the entire Hamas negotiating team, Pezeshkian predicted, “Cohesion will increase across the region because our neighbors recognize that nobody is safe now.”

During Israel’s assault on Iran, the president narrowly escaped an attempt on his life. “There are plans that if they take me out” when Israel attacks again, “we have prepared five to six steps down the line.

Alright, so look, I'm terrified. I'm putting my entire body of work up for critique. Here's my Pixelfed.

I've been posting pictures here and there at the same time, but only the pictures I feel really confident with have ever actually been posted here. That's because my Pixelfed has my fans and they generally say positive stuff about my work, but...

you all are the general public, and good goddamn that's terrifying.

So here's all my work. I hope it's up to scratch.

Rohingya plight in Myanmar, a ‘test for humanity’ | UN News

Xinjiang, Darfur, Palestine and Rohingya are all tests that show a significant chunk of humanity don’t have a shred of humanity in them.

NTSC Discovers That Online Gaming Platforms Have Chats, Image Sharing

The rush to blame video games for all the world’s ills is, of course, nothing new. While some of the more novel examples of this blame-game include current Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s claim that video games are the reason the Medicaid is abused (yes, seriously), this nonsense is more commonly trotted out whenever violence is committed, typically for mass shootings. It’s irresponsible and not based on anything remotely resembling scientific data and it should stop.

Putin preparing to attack another European country, Zelenskyy says

Ukraine’s president says Kremlin checking Europe’s capacity to protect its skies following new drone sightings

Vladimir Putin will expand his war in Ukraine by attacking another European country, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has predicted, and accused Russia of recent drone incursions that he said were an attempt to test Nato’s defences.

Speaking in Kyiv after his meeting with Donald Trump at the UN in New York, the Ukrainian president said Russia was preparing for a bigger conflict. “Putin will not wait to finish his war in Ukraine. He will open up some other direction. Nobody knows where. He wants that,” he said.

Ukraine’s president said the Kremlin was deliberately checking Europe’s capacity to protect its skies, after drone sightings in Denmark, Poland and Romania and the violation of Estonian airspace by Russian fighter jets. More drones were spotted on Friday night above a Danish military base, and over a Norwegian base on Saturday.

Fediverse blogging?

I'm dealing with some health issues at the moment, and it's getting exhausting to update everybody one by one, so I'm looking for some ideas of where to host a blog in a way that might give my friends & family a small, painfree introduction to the fediverse, or at least something that's more on the FOSS side of things. A family friend used caringbridge.org a few years ago, which looks like a not so terrible fallback option, but I figured I'd see what else is out there before making a decision. The last time I really did much blogging was probably 20 years ago on livejournal, so I'm pretty out of touch with the current options.
in reply to QualifiedKitten

  • Writefreely is the established option.
  • Wordpress has activitypub plugin.
  • Mastodon (or the like) is probably good enough.
  • Wafrn is tumblr like blogging.
  • Openwrite is the new kid in the block similiar to Writefreely.
in reply to malfisya

When OpenWrite says "publish to the open web, Gemini, or Mastodon" what does it mean by Gemini?
in reply to Coopr8

what does it mean by Gemini?

I am not sure of the detail but it is alternative to http. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemini_(…

in reply to malfisya

huh, interesting, a private text based internet protocol where everything runs server side and all sends are encrypted by default. I see the appeal.
