Is Your Medication Made in a Contaminated Factory? The FDA Won’t Tell You.

Instead of sharing the names of the medications coming from the errant foreign factories, the FDA routinely blacked them out, keeping the information secret from the public. That decision prevented doctors, pharmacists and patients from knowing whether the drugs they counted on were tainted by manufacturing failures — and potentially ineffective or unsafe.

“Is there some quality issue? Is there a greater difference in potency than expected? Is there a contaminant? I don’t know,” said Dr. Donna Kirchoff, a pediatrician in Oregon who has spent hours trying to find out where certain drugs were made for patients reporting unexplained reactions.

They’ve never been arrested. Why does the FBI list thousands of service members as likely criminals?

The term sounds nonthreatening enough. But in the military, “titling” isn’t about taking ownership of a car or property. It’s what happens when a service member’s name is simply listed as the “subject” in a military criminal investigative report. “Titling does not mean an individual has been arrested, charged, or convicted of a crime,” a legal assistance document on the Army’s website explains.

But here’s the problem: Every branch of the military shares titling records in criminal databases with more than two dozen agencies, including the FBI, even if the case was dropped.

The fallout can be devastating because the records are retrievable for decades. Veterans can be passed over for promotions, rejected on apartment applications, and denied firearms clearance, advocates say. With the stain on their record, some struggle to get a job for years.

DC police detained man for protesting National Guard patrol with Darth Vader song, lawsuit says

Sam O’Hara’s federal lawsuit says the ominous orchestral music of “The Imperial March” is the soundtrack for his peaceful protests against President Donald Trump’s deployment of Guard members in Washington, D.C. Millions of TikTok users have viewed O’Hara’s videos of his interactions with troops, according to the suit, filed by American Civil Liberties Union attorneys.

O’Hara, a 35-year-old Washington resident, says he didn’t interfere with the Ohio National Guard troops during their Sept. 11 encounter on a public street. One of the troops summoned Metropolitan Police Department officers, who stopped O’Hara and kept him handcuffed for 15 to 20 minutes before releasing him without charges, according to the lawsuit.

Disgruntled workers...

I'm so torn. I dislike my job and am applying elsewhere. Do I give them two weeks when I get another job or just walk out when they complain I'm not done my work when my freight showed up two hours late.

Kinda depends imo. Would it be helpful to be able to use them as a reference/let them be called when applying to future jobs? You most likely want to give them the notice, especially if the current place is a stepping stone in your career or you have been at the current job for a while. Have you been there 2 months getting the brunt of abuse and not getting anything other than a paycheck? Call it a wash and leave it off the resume, fuck them.

As much as I wish we could treat companies as poorly as they treat us, the reality is that we all have lives to live and it can fuck our personal lives to live our values 100% of the time, as much as it sucks to navigate our system. That's why unions are strong, we have strength in numbers. When we're acting individually though, they hold the power.

So if you need to job hop realistically it's probably better for your prospects to play it safe and do the "proper" thing. Making a stance by setting your future prospects on fire is a dangerous move to you personally that probably won't further the cause toward an equitable workplace. Being able to leave a bad work environment for a better one (possibly unionized even), is the better choice, and if playing the employer's game is the best way to get to greener pastures then I would give notice and all that junk.

Even if you have the next job lined up, you still have to think about how it will look to the new employer if they know your current job and see that you aren't giving notice. They might not take that well and recind the offer (which may be illegal depending, but when has that stopped a company from doing something). It's a stupid game that we shouldn't have to play, but I think you should always weigh your options so you don't mess up your own livelihood. No sense in being a martyr if it won't help the cause.

So I've applied/applying to two places that are both unionized shops. My current job is non union, it's a small store/warehouse and it has four employees and a supervisor and a manager. Three people work desk jobs and that leaves me doing all the receiving and shipping while my supervisor sits at her desk also taking orders.

So I get orders to pick from 5 people while also having to juggle the freight getting onto the shelves and if I ask for help because freight comes in hours late I get complaints, if the orders aren't all picked by a certain time whether or not it was 2 hours late arriving I get complaints. They can see when the stuff arrives but never offer to help, they expect me to run but I don't get paid to run.

I will likely give notice to give myself time to get ready for either job but I would never use them as a reference. They spend all their time up front, I will use the driver's that come into the warehouse as my references since they actually see how hard I work.

Apple confirms it pulled controversial dating apps Tea and TeaOnHer from the App Store

Apple has pulled the controversial dating safety apps Tea and TeaOnHer from the App Store over violations of its content moderation and privacy rules, following a flood of user complaints and reports of minors’ data being exposed.
in reply to BrikoX

This just kind of proves that App Store guidelines are a joke and their enforcement is selective and monopolistic. Doxing people was okay until it became too toxic to keep them on.

Other than being north Korean and using a fake identity, this sounds like the Key and Peele sketch when their plan to rob a bank involves getting jobs at the bank and collecting a salary, and then doing that for years. Full stop.

Learning how to do remote IT work seems like a good living for anyone with a decent internet connection.

CSS finally gets support for if() function

After years of developer frustration and questions on online forums, it’s finally happening: CSS is getting an if() function to apply styling when a condition is met. For the first time, developers can make logical decisions directly in stylesheets, without separate code blocks. This opens up whole new possibilities for web designers.

So they didn't ask anybody there what the weather was like before they arrived?
in reply to Dogyote

Huuurrr duuuurrrr funny

Researchers expected deep snow because that is how the climate is supposed to be there, it's supposed to be freezing cold yet it's all thawing.

If you can't understand that that is a major issue then I invite you to go back with your maga friends who all think it's funny to joke about the subject that very well may mean the end of humanity as we know it.

in reply to Phoenixz

lol. Hey buddy, believe it or not, I'm on your team. I was poking fun at the clickbait headline. Since there's a city there, with people, and climate change has been happening for awhile now, I would be shocked if the researchers didn't expect what they saw when they arrived. They could have checked a weather app ffs.

So uh, chill out, okay?

A whole bunch of it.

This is probably Trichaptum biforme, the violet polypore, if the USDA Field Guide to Eastern Fungus is of any help. (.pdf) But if I am anything, I'm certainly not a mycologist.

Taken with my RF 35mm prime, which when the iris is decently open has a depth of field probably best measured in nanometers when anything is close to the lens.

Full sizes here and here.

Dissenting Judges Voice Dire Warnings for the Country As 9th Circuit Denies Rehearing of LA National Guard Stay

The full 9th Circuit Court of Appeals declined to rehear a panel’s order allowing National Guard troops to deploy to California, prompting the dissenting judges to pen lengthy warnings about the danger the United States now faces.

...

A single judge had requested the vote to rehear the case, after a panel — composed of two Trump appointees and one Biden appointee — stayed a district court order blocking the Guard’s deployment.
