I remember my grandparents saying they dream in black and white like they’re old tv programs.
I didn’t watch many movies as a kid, but my cousins rented them all the time. I remember thinking they all talked and argued as if they were in a movie.
Really makes you wonder about us, and the next gen.
Claiming we now speak in a chatbot-influenced dialect disregards the beauty of human expression. Language evolves with technology, but that doesn’t mean we’re losing our voice. Instead, we’re blending styles, adapting to new contexts while holding on to our rich heritage. Let’s celebrate this evolution rather than fear it; it reflects our creativity in an ever-changing world!

How to leave a lot of communities at the same time?
Hi,
I am subscribed to a lot of communities.
I want to leave a lot of them.
Is there a way to easily select all the communities I want to leave?
Now I do it one by one, but this is a lot of work.
I would love to hear how to do this in bulk.
Thanks.

It's Kenyan issue first and foremost. Lack of labour protections sucks and the fact that people fear to lose these shitty jobs is telling.
Kenya has long been a data labor hub for U.S. tech giants like Meta and OpenAI.
Also as article mentions, US companies has been doing the same thing.

AI Safety Index Winter 2025: No AI company is doing enough. Meta, xAI and DeepSeek scored some of the worst grades(D)
- A clear divide persists between top performers and the rest
> A clear divide persists between the top performers (Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind) and the rest of the companies reviewed (Z.ai, xAI, Meta, Alibaba Cloud, DeepSeek). The most substantial gaps exist in the domains of risk assessment, safety framework, and information sharing, caused by limited disclosure, weak evidence of systematic safety processes, and uneven adoption of robust evaluation practices. - Existential safety remains the industry’s core structural weakness
> All of the companies reviewed are racing toward AGI/superintelligence without presenting any explicit plans for controlling or aligning such smarter-than-human technology, thus leaving the most consequential risks effectively unaddressed. - Despite public commitments, companies’ safety practices continue to fall short of emerging global standards
> While many companies partially align with these emerging standards, the depth, specificity, and quality of implementation remain uneven, resulting in safety practices that do not yet meet the rigor, measurability, or transparency envisioned by frameworks such as the EU AI Code of Practice.

we won't know the details until it gets release in a freedom of information act dump in 25 years and even then, people still won't know like how trump's document dump of jfk confirmed that the original tankies were right about the hungarian workers revolt.

Lemmy Release v0.19.14
What is Lemmy?
Lemmy is a self-hosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. It is completely free and open, and not controlled by any company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. Content is organized into communities, so it is easy to subscribe to topics that you are interested in, and ignore others. Voting is used to bring the most interesting items to the top. Thanks to @flamingos-cant for contributing to resolve this.
Changes
Recently some malicious users started to use an exploit where they would post rule violating content and then delete the account. This would prevent admins and mods from viewing the user profile to find other posts, and would also prevent federation of ban actions.
The new release fixes these problems. Thanks to @flamingos-cant for contributing to solve this.
Upgrade instructions
There are no breaking changes with this release.
Follow the upgrade instructions for ansible or docker.
If you need help with the upgrade, you can ask in our support forum or on the Matrix Chat.
Thanks to everyone
We'd like to thank our many contributors and users of Lemmy for coding, translating, testing, and helping find and fix bugs. We're glad many people find it useful and enjoyable enough to contribute.
Support development
We (@dessalines and @nutomic) have been working full-time on Lemmy for over five years. This is largely thanks to support from NLnet foundation, as well as donations from individual users.
If you like using Lemmy, and want to make sure that we will always be available to work full time building it, consider donating to support its development. A recurring donation is the best way to ensure that open-source software like Lemmy can stay independent and alive, and helps us grow our little developer co-op to support more full-time developers.

ICEBlock app sues Trump administration for censorship and 'unlawful threats'

How to change screen saturation?
Ubuntu, Gnome, Wayland, nVidia, Intel integrated graphics.
I have a wide-gamut OLED screen. When regular sRGB is mapped to it, it leads to oversaturation. I can use color profiles in color managed applications to get accurate colors, but it's not system-wide and it have no effect on most of the apps.
On Windows 11, I was able to change hue/saturation both in Intel Command Center and in ASUS preinstalled bloatware. On Linux, I've spent a lot of time, built below markdown file and I still have no suitable saturation control. Did I miss something?
If you're using KDE and you have a swappedRedAndGreen.icc color profile preinstalled in your color management settings, can you enable it to check if it affects whole system or only color managed applications (like some of image viewers)? If you have SDR Color Intensity in your KDE Display settings and it works, can you check if CTM is supported by your system (xrandr --properties | grep ctm)?
Gnome Extensions
There are some saturation extensions which work nice for X11 but bad for Wayland+fractional scaling, they degrade performance in any case:
extensions.gnome.org/
github.com/zb3/gnome-saturatio…
nVidia Settings
In some systems nVidia control panel has color settings:
nvidia-settingsShould look like this: askubuntu.com/a/664299 but no such option for me. Maybe switching between Open/Proprietary nvidia drivers will enable color settings? When I switch Primary GPU from Intel to nVidia and reboot, new props appear, but no color props.
ctm doesn't appear in xrandr either. xrandr display id changes to eDP-1-1. Performance and heat issues appear. Mouse lags a little bit.xrandr and xcalib
X11 only.
# You can make white less white, but can't change black in xrandr with gamma/brightness props:
xrandr --output eDP-1 --gamma ('{0}:{0}:{0}' -f 1.9) --brightness 0.5
# This one changes black point!
xcalib -brightness 10 -alter xcalib defaults:
gamma=1.0 brightness=0.0 and contrast=100.0.To reset xcalib use one of these:
- Restart PC;
Alt+F2->xcalib -clear-> Enter;Ctrl+Alt+Deleteand wait for 60s or pressRight, Enter
xrandr BroadcastRGB
# Check Broadcast RGB available values (default: Automatic):
xrandr --props | sls 'Broadcast RGB' -Context 0,1 | select -f 1
\#> Broadcast RGB: Limited 16:235
# supported: Automatic, Full, Limited 16:235
# Change to Limited:
xrandr --output eDP-1 --set "Broadcast RGB" "Limited 16:235"
# Black is now less black, white is less white, screen is softer.
# Will reset to default after reboot. libvibrant
X11 only

unix.stackexchange.com/a/73007…
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/libvibrant/libvibrant.git
# sudo apt install cmake
# sudo apt install libx11-dev libxrandr-dev libxext-dev libxi-dev
# sudo apt install nvidia-settings libxnvctrl-dev
cmake ..
& ./build/cli/vibrant-cli --version
# FAIL
# CTM should be supported by driver/display for libvibrant to work:
# xrandr --properties | sls ctmFor non-laptop screens there are
ddcutil and ddccontrol. They should work as if you're changing your settings using physical buttons on your display.KDE has saturation settings? zamundaaa.github.io/wayland/20… "SDR Color Intensity" option. Maybe it relies on CTM?
KDE can affect whole screen appearance with regular ICC profiles without VCGT tag?
An update on HDR and color management in KWin
In my last post about HDR and color management I explained roughly how color management works, what we’re doing to make it work on Wayland and how far along we were with that in Plasma.Xaver Hugl (Xaver’s blog)

Sounds like you want color management, not just arbitrary saturation changes.
Install KDE Plasma, select the "built-in" color profile, and you're done, no more oversaturated colors. If you want to test how it looks, just use a live boot.

- Governments should publicly object to the Trump administration’s unlawful strikes against alleged drug smuggling boats.
- The rules-based international order depends on countries speaking out against violations, even when they’re committed by powerful friends.
Governments that partner with the US on counter-narcotics efforts need to take steps to ensure they are not complicit in these extrajudicial killings.

• Swisscows: It also prioritizes privacy and security, with the advantage of being based in Switzerland, which has strict data protection laws. It is a reliable alternative, especially if you want to avoid sharing personal information.
Tip: If SearxNG is not meeting your expectations, it is worth trying Kagi to see if it better suits your needs. Swisscows is also a great option for those seeking privacy.

Nancy Mace shreds Mike Johnson and says ‘Nancy Pelosi was a more effective House Speaker than any Republican this century’
Rep. Nancy Mace has ripped Speaker Mike Johnson for the way he has run the House of Representatives in a New York Times op-ed, the latest sign of discontent among Republicans with the speaker.
Mace, a former moderate who moved hard to the right who is now running for governor, criticized Johnson and House leadership for closing the lawmaking process and concentrating it among themselves.
“Would opening up the floor lead to more conservative bills passing or more bipartisan ones? The honest answer is: It would do both,” she wrote.
“Some Republican priorities would finally get a vote. So, too, would common-sense bipartisan measures. The point is to do more and let voters see where their representatives stand. What we have now is the worst of all worlds: little accountability, transparency and results.”

The Brazilian-born mother of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s nephew – who was recently detained by US immigration authorities – has rejected the Trump administration’s characterizations of her as an absentee parent.
Bruna Ferreira, who was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in November during a traffic stop in Massachusetts and was being held at a Louisiana detention center, said in an interview with the Washington Post that the White House’s statements that she had never lived with her son or spoken with Leavitt “in many years” were incorrect.
Ferreira, 33, had a relationship with Leavitt’s brother, 35-year-old Michael Leavitt. They had a son, Michael Leavitt Jr, now aged 11.

Since I left Gaza in November 2023, my life has been defined by visa rejections and endless hours waiting in airport lines. I watch people behind the counters staring at my Palestinian passport with confusion, often having to “call for help” just to process it.I’ve learned to explain the details automatically: “My name is Plestia, Rana is my mother’s name. Yes, on Palestinian passports, we include our mother’s name.” One rejection after the other; I am stuck in Gaza, I am stuck outside. Where are #Palestinians supposed to go? We are pushed out of our own land, then met with locked doors everywhere else.

How to fix intense display tearing?
I have been getting monitor tearing time to time, even with windows. It wasn't occurring often, and I could fix it by turning the monitor off and on, so I have been sleeping on it.
A few days ago, it began tearing like crazy, and it happens after turning the monitor on for a few minutes. It came to the point where the computer is nearly unusable, so I want to solve the issue once and for all.
How do I go with resolving a monitor tearing issue? Or, is it the faulty monitor? The issue also happens on Windows, after all..
like this
1 - It comes from the graphical displaying.
So it could be either hardware graphical related (aka GPU or display) or software graphical related.
2 - It doesn't seem to come from driver or software issue since Windows didn't work.
So it's surely related to hardware, display or GPU.
If it's a desktop as other said you could try to change the output port of your display on your GPU...
Trai nghiem tu do cho khach du lich voi Smart Locker tai homestay va resort

Its mods claim that they are starting to have trouble to distinguish genuine from generated responses, but this sub always sounded like one giant moralistic hivemind.
And just to be sure: It was a joke.

· Thoughts help thinking brain go poo poo every\
· Sometimes brain say “hmm” but actually “yikes”\
· When idea go bonk against skull wall, that’s innovation\
· Overthinking is just cardio for neurons\
· Deep philosophical questions like “Why am I?” and “How?” share 87% of the same ingredients\
· If you can’t stop thinking, try unplugging brain and plugging it back in (this is also called “a nap”)

The difference is the autistic person isn't completely sycophantic and might be completely disgusted that you don't know the first production date of the C40-8W.

"Summarize what you just said in a single sentence."
And so far, everybody has done it.

I also find it odd to have such a strong opinion about something you have zero first-hand experience of.

I've never used em-dashes to represent them. Am I doing it wrong?

in reply to BreadstickNinja • • •I'm one of those deranged few who actually used em dashes in my normal typing habits. Not super often the way LLMs are prone to, maybe once a month tops. Alt+0151 or Compose, dash, dash, dash.
Now a find myself reluctant to use what I felt was a useful bit of punctuation out of concern people might think what I'm typing was LLM generated. It sucks.

in reply to vithigar • • •I always just used -- instead, because I'm too lazy to remember weird codes and I don't know what a compose key is, but the intent is the same.
Edit: oh and I forgot lemmy does weird stuff with em-dash too, what I originally wrote there was hyphen-hyphen

They talk about vague connections through certain words being used on YouTube that are, in their own words, inconclusive. And a bunch of anecdotal instances on reddit in which mods use "vibes" to detect AI slop comments and posts. And then finish with more anecdotes about some real world encounters that they think are written by AI.
I mean, no doubt that AI garbage is filtering into online discourse because let's face it, people are lazy assholes who want easy karma and updoots. But this is hardly evidence that actual conversational language is being altered by AI.

I myself have strong aversion to it, but found myself using much more bullet points, cliché constructions, and yes - even em-dashes - when I don't actively pay attention to how I write.
I've always been sensitive to language around me, naturally adapting to the environment around - and now it backfires.

Should I summarize, streamline? Clearly not: all thoughts should be expressed in full, replete with all irrelevant details. Perhaps remove unneeded, intra-sentence explanations and asides (like this one, which I'm quite fond of) of details obvious to the reader?! Never!
No AI could write with matching convolution — especially when, unlike me, it cannot do so on the toilet.

in reply to SoleInvictus • • •Your eloquence strikes me as unnecessary but beautiful - truly, it is in human nature to overcomplicate, but in such a special way that makes it unique and almost spiritual instead of verbose and obtuse. I compliment your decisiveness and ability - a distinctively human ability - to see through this thin line and turn your toilet habit into something so profound. Yet, I cannot help but note that taking out the phone while unloading your bowel - or bladder, for that matter - is yet another symptom - a very alarming symptom - of the modern age interfering with our ability to distance ourselves from a neverending steam of distractions, one that comes hand in hand with modern AI-powered enshittification. So, if you'd like to truly reconnect with your roots, to find human in yourself - perhaps it might be bright to create an intimate space where the only connection you experience is a connection with yourself.
Perhaps, I couldn't express myself as vividly as you do; for that I apologize; yet, I'm not even operating in the domain of my mother tongue, so I hope I can be forgiven. Besides, one other distinctively human thing is to try regadless.
