Команда разработчиков библиотеки GNU Multiple Precision (GMP), используемой для вычислений с плавающей запятой, а также целых и рациональных чисел с произвольной точностью, опубликовала подробный отчёт о двух случаях выхода из строя процессоров AMD Ryzen 9 9950X на архитектуре Zen 5, случившихся с разницей в несколько месяцев во время тестов. При этом первопричина перегорания чипов пока неизвестна. Оба процессора вышли из строя в то время, когда продолжительное время работали под максимальной нагрузкой — на них были запущены «очень плотные» циклы, написанные вручную на ассемблере, предполагающие выполнение одной операции MULX за такт. При этом разработчики отмечают, что ни один из процессоров не отказал сразу, а лишь спустя несколько месяцев работы под высокой нагрузкой.
