We explain how dangerous it can be to be identified online (for example SWATTING), and finish the job by giving an inadequate but desperately needed explination of how LinkedIn became a cesspool, and how social norms on the internet are influenced by the semi-perminant and public nature of everything, and how this can turn toxic.
Then. We remind them.
Never. EVER. Trust a massive company. They are not your friend, and if they are too big to fail, harm to you will be hardly acknowledged under the law.
And when all is said and done... we remind them of resources they can go to when things get messy. Who can reality check. Who has experience running a group. Who will sit and listen to them when they lose a friend, or can help weigh a hard decision.
If we want to keep them safe, we must both prepare them for their future and keep major companies in the threat model.
