Nach zwei Wochen bei Etaples waren viele der Verwundeten nur zu froh, mit ungeheilten Wunden an die Front zurückzukehren. Die Bedingungen im Krankenhaus waren eher strafen als therapeutisch und es gab Vorfälle im Krankenhaus zwischen Militärpolizei und Patienten.
