The welfare state was created at the time that capital was brought on its knees (1930) by organized labor and class struggle of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The only option for the state to prevent its own demise and collapse was to institute relief measures to negotiate and compromise, to which capital had no option but accept.
WW2 came to unite (in perception) people under a nationa;/ethnic unity-front, to buy time for capital to reconstitute and reoorganize. This was as true for US as it was for the UK (see NHS history and pre-ww2 conflicts).
All development, social, political and economic is a result of the ongoing class struggle, whether you like it or not, whether you are on the right, left, anarchist, or a-political, the material reality is one and only.
Enough with theocracy and mass produced illusions
