At the doctor's surgery.
I had to get done with morning chores early to meet my daughter in town at the Farmer's market.
Today is my birthday so we treated ourselves to some fancy coffee. The market had live music and a beautiful display of goods for sale. We loaded up on the best fruit and veggies Humboldt has to offer.
At the end of every month I try to use the money left in my budget to give back to the community. Today we got some twenty dollar bills from the ATM on our way to the market. Everyone that we bought from got a twenty dollar tip. We included the musicians on our way out.
The perfect way to celebrate together.
We had great fun.
"the real benefit for real people is that the sun doesn’t send you a bill at the end of the month. When we build renewable energy infrastructure, that means energy is free for life. Make no mistake about it, renewables are not just a different way of powering our cars and our homes; they’re about changing power in every sense of the word."

@brianvastag your experiences is atypical—it is not “often” the case that you have a lemon of a system, as you clearly do.
“A study by NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) shows that most panels are slightly less efficient after 25 years.”
Also: warranties are with the manufacturer not the installer and the manufacturers do not change that often—and should honor the warranty.
@brianvastag
“manufacturers offering warranties that guarantee performance for 25 to 30 years. After this period, the panels don’t suddenly stop working but may experience a decline in efficiency, often around 10-20% less than their original capacity.”
If your panels have degraded in 10years, they are far outside the norm.

"Over the past few weeks, something extraordinary has unfolded in the District of Columbia: Grand juries have refused to indict at least five individuals facing prosecution by the Trump administration. It is difficult to overstate the rarity of such defiance. Federal grand juries return indictments in the overwhelming majority of cases, about 99.9 percent. There’s a reason lawyers joke that a grand jury would indict a ham sandwich. It is historic, and quite possibly unprecedented, for federal prosecutors to face so many rebukes in such a short span of time."

The video captures a journey from the perspective of a vehicle driving on a highway. Initially, the scene shows a red car ahead, with a red truck carrying white cargo passing by on the right. The highway is flanked by metal guardrails and lush green trees, under an overcast sky. The dashboard and windshield wipers are visible, indicating the camera is mounted inside the vehicle. As the journey continues, the red car remains in view, maintaining a steady distance. The environment remains consistent, with the highway flanked by greenery and the overcast sky. A green highway sign appears, providing directions. The video concludes with the red car still ahead, and the camera capturing the ongoing drive.

The image shows a simple pencil drawing on lined notebook paper. The drawing depicts a stick figure with a triangular head, two small circular eyes, and a small dot for a mouth. The figure has a pointed hat and is holding up two small heart shapes, one in each hand. The body is a straight line with a square torso and two circular feet. The figure is positioned slightly to the left of the center of the image. To the right of the figure, the text "IT'S GIMBY!" is written in a casual, handwritten style. The background consists of blue horizontal lines typical of lined notebook paper, with a shadow visible on the paper, suggesting the image was taken with a flash.

A5: Nothing is really coming to mind for a part of my making that I'd like to see slowed down. During one of my recent builds I did a time lapse video for the first time, showing pewter buckles melting, and that was VERY satisfying. I think most of the work I do would be far more interesting sped up than slowed down.

#washingtonstate just issued a public health standing order to allow individuals 6 months and older to access #covid #covid19 vaccines from a health care provider: doh.wa.gov/sites/default/files….
I ~think~ the impact on this is that people between 6 months and 65 years who are healthy can get the vaccine in Washington State without having to get an off-label prescription from a doctor. Which is great! I am less clear if this means the vaccines will be available at all pharmacies, or whether insurance will cover the cost.
UPDATE: the state has a FAQ on the COVID standing order for the public here: doh.wa.gov/sites/default/files…

Right? A single abstraction could have been used for both screen reader areas and streamable rectangles, but Wayland doesn't include abstractions.
* All I know about the status of this is it's going badly
Ariadne Conill 🐰
in reply to mcc • • •X is just framebuffers being pushed around anymore, plus a whole bunch of legacy stuff that no real world applications use anymore for decades. accessibility is handled by the toolkits directly.
that someone is trying to improve on this by integrating screen reader hints and other accessibility features into wayland itself is an improvement over X11.

Hi. I think you're talking about my project. It's been on hold for a year now; the last status update was: blogs.gnome.org/a11y/2024/06/1…
What I like about my approach is that accessibility tree updates are serialized, unlike any existing platform accessibility API I know of... so they could efficiently be pushed over a network.

There are some regressions that are slowly been fixed, like the ability to set custom icons for programs without using .desktop files.
But network transparency was not one of them. I once tried to boot up an entire KDE session over ssh -X and it was utterly unusable. If you are serious about remote desktop you would be using some other protocols already since more than a decade. Even single applications that were not of the last Millennium worked very baldy. I know because I tried.
Overall I'm very happy with how Wayland and the Linux desktop is moving, although it took a really long time to get here for sure.

That isnt true today, while there are some vendors selling workstations it's not a huge and growing market that is attracting investment (all the money us going to "AI") so there isn't the same pressure to hammer out protocols and code across the desktops as there was 30+ years ago when X11 had the same problems. It is happening, but much more slowly and with fewer people, eg IIUC accessibility only had one or two volunteer maintainers until like a year ago when RH hired an FTE to be able to effect architectural changes. It's all XKCD 2347 all the way.
It's honestly amazing that the Linux desktops are in any way competitive with MacOS and Windows as both of those have _way_ more people than any of the different Linux desktops, so they can just *do* more.
