So there you have it. I wrote in the first post that I hope to do one of these every week. Three posts in, that already seems like an absurdly ambitious goal, although I might get closer to it if I can learn to write shorter posts (also, I was on vacation for a week in August, so I don’t write quite as slowly as it might appear).
In any event, I hope this will be useful to some folks. Talking about the far right in terms of language sounds kind of abstract in light of all the real-world violence they actually do. But all that violence begins and spreads through ideas and their communication. The whole idea of rhetoric is that it persuades people and gets them to think differently about things. And if we can understand how fascists use language to manipulate people, it makes it easier for us to undermine their work and protect ourselves and our communities.
PS: If people who are on Bluesky wouldn't mind boosting this, I'd be grateful for it. I'm really pretty allergic to other people's attention, but I think there's a lot that's being missed in the current discussions about the international descent into fascism, and I think this will be a way to address at least some of it. For that reason, I'd like to try to promote this a little bit.

Being in charge of updating and correcting the Google Maps entries for a bunch of businesses was extremely eye-opening to me, illustrating quite well that the situation is worse than I even thought it was. And I thought it was pretty bad.
Why are we humans so susceptible to choosing shiny neat things over the ability to decide whether putting for-profit entities in charge of de-facto public utilities is a good idea or not?

Recuerdo que de pequeño yo jugaba mucho a esto. Creo que el nombre es "videojuegos magnéticos".
Me encantaban todos. Tenía un manual de instrucciones de los diferentes juegos. Le dabas a un botón y se enrollaba el papel para pasar a otro juego.
Luego colocabas las fichas y jugabas a un ajedrez, la oca, etc ....
Me encantaría poder encontrar uno de estos al día de hoy porque me parece un gran invento con miles de horas de diversión en familia o con amigos/as/es.
