There are still some old-style websites if you know where to find them: they don't register highly in "search" (ha!) results, presumably because there's no money involved.
I was surprised to see one I designed in 1992/3 still looking the same, though rebuilt since then. It was the time of handcrafted HTML, before CSS and all that happened after. Loads in an instant.
IRC and Usenet are still around. Perhaps people will go back to that.
