Unemployment numbers are up. The high cost of everything is still here. The economy is slowing.

The ‘golden age’ of the Trump economy is the real hoax. The stats don’t lie.

I never feel more saintly than when I put a pristine copy of a desirable book in someone’s little library box.

MiL hands me the “old” laptop.

“I charged it but nothing shows when we try to power it on”

A) laptop has clearly been dropped

B) screen isn’t actually attached to the rest of the machine

C) battery is a Spicy Pillow

D) where’s the motherboard??? (Oh it might be this slightly bigger than credit card board on the top right.

Looks like storage is probably soldered on, so recovery may not be possible with what I have with me.

Boy he’s looking old. For a Russian male he’s living pretty far beyond life expectancy, but I guess that’s a perk of being dictator.

1. Got a flu shot and the new Covid vaccine today 💪

2. Tried a new boba tea place that is just around the corner. I had a mix of regular chewy boba pearls and some mango popping bubbles which were strangely satisfying. 🫧

3. It's the first Friday in a long time where I don’t have a big work project hanging over my head. Happy Weekend, everyone!

"We have supported over the years a number of people working full-time who are having to live in vehicles."

#LyndaRyan, Tākiri Mai te Ata Trust, 2025

rnz.co.nz/news/national/571860…

This is unacceptable. No person should be without a warm, dry, secure home. Especially in a country perfectly capable of building luxury homes for rich people's cars.

But when people working full-time are homeless, it's undeniable that NZ capitalism has reached USSR-in-1990 levels of broken.

It’s like that in the US too. It’s time to break the back of modern capitalism and try again.

According to reports I read at the time, fulltime workers living in vehicles was already happening in the US 20-30 years ago.

i've been working on a list of the fundamental archetypes of video-games. literature is primarily concerned with men causing drama, so all works of literature can concisely be boiled down to a man opposing something. video-games on the other hand are primarily concerned with our instinctual desires for interaction, so our archetypes are fundamentally different.

so far i've got:

1. make a little doll

2. make nest for doll

3. protect doll

4. fruit

5. climb

6. block puzzles

7. follow deer

@dan613 sure. fruit can be many things and often is literally fruit, but conceptually fruit is a usually-colorful, usually-convex-ish object that is satisfying to interact with and often confers some kind of temporary benefit to the player. this is a diverse category with lots of interesting and varied examples, but here is one narrow example of fruit based gameplay that i understand is one of the more popular ones: sciencedirect.com/science/arti…
in reply to aeva

@dan613 sometimes fruit is one of many interactive elements in the game (such as in the classic fps DOOM), and sometimes the game itself takes on the transcendent function of fruit (such as the game Rez)

I kinda glossed over that part since I don’t eat meat, but I liked the roasted veggie salsa and the avocado sauce. And the hummingbirds! 😀

Yes, the birds were great, and the sauces. It would be good with beans instead of meat.

Love this #solarpunk essay by @eruditelijah.bsky.social!

I keep saying #solarpunk is robust: people keep finding their way to it from all different paths. It's co-created. It's meta.

As Elijah says, even if you don't understand it, you still end up doing good.

in reply to Sue is Writing Solarpunk 🌞🌱

This is an excellent breakdown of #Solarpunk and aligns with my understanding of the movement. I enjoyed the pushback on the common criticism that utopia can’t be punk.

This quote stood out to me:

“The entire idea of solarpunk is that hope itself can be punk. That in a world where you are constantly being ground down to depression and anxiety and nihilism and pessimism and apathy and doomerism… that actually believing that we can do better and then DOING that is punk af.”

A ridiculous 5-book haul at the library #today. I just meant to return some books and not take any out because I already have plenty going on here at home, but I couldn’t help myself. At least four were on my TBR, but the Carl Hiaasen is new, and I haven’t had time to make it there yet. One is the second book in the series (No Mercy), and one is the start of a series (A Bad Day for Sunshine). Ascension looks really cool, and Rosarita looks like an amazing short novelette.

#books #AmReading

in reply to Jonathan Arnold 🇺🇦

The image shows a collection of five books arranged on a quilted bedspread with a black and white pattern. The books are:

  1. "Fever Beach" by Carl Hiaasen, with a vibrant orange and yellow cover featuring sunglasses.
  2. "A Bad Day for Sunshine" by Jarynda Jones, with a white cover and sunglasses illustration.
  3. "Rosarita" by Anita Desai, with a black cover and a white crane image.
  4. "No Mercy" by Joanna Schaffhausen, with a yellow cover and red text.
  5. "Ascension" by Nicholas Binge, with a dark blue cover and a white mountain peak illustration.

The books are positioned with "Fever Beach" and "A Bad Day for Sunshine" at the top, followed by "Rosarita," and "No Mercy" and "Ascension" at the bottom. The bedspread has a textured appearance with a subtle design, and the lighting is dim, creating a cozy atmosphere.
