2003 Rio Cali Sport MP3 player I dumpster-dived earlier this week is impressively functional. 1.) It's in flawless condition. 2.) It's tiny 128mb internal storage is filled with 20 great EDM tracks. 3.) Everything seems to work: playback, file navigation, FM tuner, stopwatch. 4.) Running off AAA battery avoids problem of cycled-out, hard-wired ni-cad or Li-ion battery. And one could now get an AAA form factor USB Li-ion rechargeable for it.
Today it passed it's another test. Using appropriate USB-mini-A cable, the 22-yr-old Rio's internal storage mounted fine in Windows 10. This is the virtue of industry-wide consumer electronics standards & adherence to backwards compatability.
Next test will involve SD support. It takes a full size SD card. Will it recognize anything above 128mb? Also, will it mount the SD storage in Windows?
This Rio might be good for one of my #homeless peers. I could load it with bands they like & they get an FM tuner besides & we always find AAA batteries in the trash.

on my home server, I have 50 btrfs subvolumes rolling snapshoted every hours because "why not?"; I disable my screen, unload gpu, map on virtio and load vm with passthrough every time I need and fallback at end because of "why not?".

What I like most about Linux is what it DOESN’T do:
It doesn’t spy on me. It doesn’t force me to spend money. It doesn’t deny me access to my hardware or my software. It doesn’t dictate when, where, or HOW I can use my computer.
That’s what they mean when they use the term “free.”
Not “free” as in money, because one should always support the development of the software they use whenever possible, but free as in FREEDOM.
