To the right, we are mascots or useful tools (or targets, for the honest ones), and on the left we are in a peculiar situation where we are required to be on the side of everyone else, no matter what, to be considered for a tentative membership in humanity, but no one (including us) may be on our side, because some of us have been known to do bad things.
It's an absolutely intolerable situation which, Divine guarantees aside, directly threatens our survival, since if we can't have reciprocal allies on the left we don't have anyone, and a small nation cannot survive in this world without allies.
This is why I've pretty much abandoned politics, aside from making angry and cynical statements such as this.

I find it a really useful exercise for the shinobue to "arpeggio" over every note of song in order, up and down. (I don't know if that's what an arpeggio is). on account of how the difficult part of the shinobue is how you have to blow in a different way for each note and register.
of course when the song jumps from a high to a low note you have to focus on that jump too, but it's generally much easier in the shino to move between adjacent notes (except when they jump registers), and doing it the easy way builds muscle memory (I hope) of what it feels like to blow the low notes successfuly for when you have to jump to them.

Yes, this is anything but unexpected. This is a very logical thing to do, under Russian diplomatic framework, which had not changed since 1950’s[^2] Western observers persistently apply the wrong framework, so they get the wrong result, so they are constantly surprised.
Western framework is transactional - we make step back, you make step back and we got a compromise.
Russian framework is precisely the opposite: “if they make step back, they are weak. If they are weak, you make step forward… because they made step back”. Is there anything more logical than that?
Trump is consistently demonstrating that he’s much more concerned about the future and stability of Russia than Putin himself, so of course Putin escalates demand. It would be illogical not to.

Stalled out jet stream pattern nails a wet pattern in one place for evern just a few days... flooding. Holds a hot dry windy pattern in place... wildfires. Do it for weeks/months? Absolute disaster (ie civilization ending droughts).
Exactly. But I think the absolute disaster is both ends of extremity.
One region is subject to flash droughts and when the air mass laden with all the water it carted away runs into something slightly cold another region is obliterated in floods.
Both of these extreme damages existing productivity. They damage existing infrastructure.

@ai6yr @GhostOnTheHalfShell That the air holds more moisture as it gets warmer is only news to people who have been paying attention 🙂, but its also the basis for one potential outcome which is glaciation. Basically jet stream stops, moisture precipitates out as snow, albedo goes through the roof, creating a positive feedback loop and you get 10,000 years of ice age.

These atmospheric rivers are dumping trillions of metric tons of water on the Greenland ice sheet. It is falling as liquid water, not snow or ice.
@GhostOnTheHalfShell @ai6yr Agreed, if you've read the research there is a big variable in the IPCC (and other) models about clouds. If clouds form in the troposphere you get cooling on the ground, if they form in the stratosphere you get warming. The glacial event scenario starts with tropospheric cloud cover that puts the ground below into a deep freeze and then water precipitating out as snow, which then leaves behind the high albedo.
I am a bit curmudgeonly about climate models, mostly about the climatologists who neglect global biomes with the exclusion perhaps of the Amazon forest.
That may be changing, where they come to accept again that land use is also climate change, and that if you kill the land, you kill the climate, because life just happened to have created the environment we exist in.

It's a cute idea. I'd be more at ease if the author had described it as a neat toy that shouldn't be seriously used for anything, but they don't seem to be thinking that way, only describing the accessibility problems as a "drawback".
