Instead of having the joy of paying 500€ for some RAM modules once, the customer can now pay 100€ for RAM in a data center every month. Gaming is reduced to streaming, so instead of paying 80€ to Valve once, you can now pay 8€ everytime you play.

While I'm totally pissed off at this and all the damage Altmann and his friends are doing to feed and sell their stochastic parrots I don't see having "just" 4GB RAM in phones and 8GB in laptops as a terrible scenario.

If software and websites are decently implemented you can go far with 8GB of RAM in your computer and do we really need a big quantity of RAM on phones who by design have very limited multitasking?

On the other hand I'm afraid that if this situation continues and worsens computing will become less and less accessible to people who aren't well off. One of the good things that happened in the last 40 years is that computing become accessible to basically everyone (at least in the West) and I'm scared that this push to AI will willingly or unwillingly ruin that.

Empirically, the next wave of production tends to be 10 times as much, if not 10 times as large, and cheaper. So it may be only a pause.

I wonder if it is long enough to be worth someone building boards that take assorted slightly dated DIMMs

Diceomancer - Slay the Spire but you can roll dice that let you change numbers on the screen using magic dice!
Baladins - A group of heroes are caught in a time loop as the universe keeps being eaten by a hungry dragon. Each run, you bring back knowledge from your previous adventures. Great intro to dice-rolling rpgs.

#DecRecs Day 4 - Tea I've Been Enjoying

- Pandan / Chrysanthemum - Pandan is one of my favorite flavors in the world. It's got a vanilla-like taste. Chrysanthemum tea was one of my childhood favorites, and I saw someone add pandan to a preparation that felt like a prefect combo.
- Honey jujube - I get these in the big glass jars. Jujube is like a plum. I tend to strain the fruit, but it's fine to eat them. Sometimes I also get lemon and orange to mix things up and get something more zesty. I usually strain out the zest. I prefer this to orange juice.
- Barley tea (sometimes with honey) - encouraged by a traditional chinese medicine consult. Barley is more mild than the pu er type teas that I usually drink. It has a very grounding feeling to it and is easy to combine with others.

- Past Lives (2023) - A Korean American woman is reunited with her childhood friend and former lover from her home country. They reflect on the bitter-sweetness of knowing what could have been and what cannot be undone.

- Link City (2024) - It's every gay person's right to critique urban planning, and finally you can show off the skill of your intuition. One person chooses locations then looks away. The other person has to choose the order of what should be built in those places. Finally, the location decider has to figure out the order that the urban attractions were placed!
- Cuttle Cards - Based on the card game Cuttle, the website Cuttle.cards is a digital and cuttlefish themed adaptation with the standard 52-card deck game where cards have both point values and special moves you can use to best your opponents.
- Eldritch Horror (2013) - Travel the world with your fellow investigators to unlock clues behind the strange eldritch beings that are bending space and time. Available for free as a mod in Table Top Simulator.
- Seasons (2012) - Build a deck that drives you through the four seasons, each with their own unique elemental abilities. Find yourself skipping back and forth through time, calling upon summons to lend you a hand, or taking a potion that gives you what you need at the perfect moment. #DecRecs Day 7 - My VPN of choice is Mullvad. The pricing is very fair for what they offer. It's slightly cheaper if you buy a physical license from a store (such as Amazon). It's easy to set up for non-techie people, multi-platform, and has various content blockers to reduce ads, etc. They make it easy to set up your license with very little personal information attached and release blogs explaining their features comprehensively.

- Options, not obligations - no "habit tracking" or "deadline requirements"
- Consider safety, accessibility, and privacy
- Not everything has to be documented and archived, don't let that keep me from allowing it a chance to exist. Journaling should help me as I live, not be the reason why I live.
- It's okay for things to be redundant if it helps me, as long as I am not forcing myself to do so for the sake of others, not myself
- It is okay to take up space with things that mean something to me, even if they would otherwise be considered to be trash

Make a medication list that includes:
- The generic and brand names
- Who is prescribing it and their contact
- The pharmacy that you get it from
- The dosage and frequency
- The purpose and side effects

Share it with your close ones. Having it on hand will make any new doctor's appointments or traveling go much more smoothly. Make sure you have it stored locally on your device.
