Occasionally - but it tends to be things I wasn't really that bothered about doing. Frustration is usually because I realise I'm just not going to make the thing as well as I'd like.

A3 I don't think it would be possible to give up on making - now more than ever. In fact the more technological things become, the more important making is.

But projects can often be put on the shelf for an indeterminate length of time. But that isn't giving up, that is tactical retreat and regrouping until the right frame of mind returns 😀

The only frustration is running out of "on the go" project storage space...

A3 Yes, sometimes it feels like a project is cursed. Sometimes you just have to realise the best thing to do is leave the workshop and come back. Else you'll only end up creating extra work undoing your mistakes. Alas that's just part of making. Not every day is a good day.

But the good days? The most exquisite high. A high that is essentially impossible to explain to anyone who isn't also a maker.

A3: Isn’t that a perfectly normal part of the making process? No? Just me then?

I’m my own worst enemy. I have high standards and constantly berate myself if I struggle to do something or just flat out can’t do it.

That’s not limited to my making, it happens at work and with my running. It’s just the way I’m wired.

A3 #makershour ABSOLUTELY!! I go through it repeatedly with my Nettie project. Largely because on the house I got myself in a tangle. Instead of cracking on with the house Alfred made i feared my 1st go would ruin it so I found a broken down "practice house" and it worked in the story in my head but back of competence, self doubt and the need to work hard... you know the story.

Also, in my early (ish) days of self taught crochet, I gathered up every bit of wool ready to hurl out when a couple of online friends stepped in and pointed out a fundamental error i was making... everything fell into place after that Hazel and Handy! Crochet heroes but they aren't "here"

Yeah, more often than not.

"We do these things not because they are easy, but because we thought they were going to be easy."

Now, while pushing through that barrier and triumphing while learning something is admirable, if your making is a hobby then hell, feel free to pop the frustrating thing on the shelf for however long. You're under no obligation to stress over things.

a3) I’ve definitely had to pause here and there. Never gave up on being a maker, but also gone long spells without finishing anything. Life/family/DIY/garden gets in the way.

I'm not sure if I am never frustrated or actually always frustrated... if it is your base state what do you measure it against? But it rarely stops me doing a thing, aside from the unending frustration of not enough time.

I sometimes wonder why I spend so much time on some things, and worry if I'm getting the opportunity cost balance right.

But typically the more frustrated I get the more I dig in my heels to finish a thing. I could probably do with being more frustrated more often so I finish more things? 😅

I get most frustrated at bad tools. Actually, TBH, I recall I have given up on a couple of 3D prints becuase I just didn't want to waste more time coaxing my crappy 3D printer to not fail. (Thankfully most of what I want to print is fairly basic utilitarian and self designed knowing the limitations of my equipment.)

Oh, and computers. Constantly fucking frustrating. I gave up on a whole "computer" career once out of frustration. 🤪

Q3. Frustrations and temptations to quit?

A3. Awkwardness of setting up equipment is a frustration point for me, to the extent that I avoid sewing machines for most projects (the Crow Tools folding project keeper is an exception).

Frustration with skill level (sewing straight and evenly spaced seams; padding a wire doll armature; pinning seams; working above hand and lap sized projects) can be a discouragement which can cause some projects to go idle.

A3. Giving up on individual projects? Nearly all of them. Giving up on making? Never. The process is the part that heals me so if one project ends in ruin I can just switch gears (although I'll get sad about the time, effort, and materials invested).

To get concrete: I have a split keyboard build that I had to put on ice until I've improved my soldering skills, after ruining the first PCB. I haven't given up, but I did get very irritated.

<tongueInCheek>🤔I'm confused, I thought that one of the main concepts of cryptocurrency was to prevent an all powerful central bank from manipulating the actions of individuals. The value of crypto was suppose to be controlled by the free market. It was the protocol that was the ruling entity, not some small group of individuals.

Its beginning to look like the whole project of WLFI was to be used as a conduit to funnel untraced money into conservative hands.</tongueInCheek>
