❌ NO: Texas did not pass a law in June banning Mountain Dew.

✔️ A state law that went into effect 9/1 requires manufacturers to add warning labels to food products that contain certain ingredients, including Yellow 5, a synthetic dye. The Dew's main flavor has Yellow 5.

I've read so many news articles that go "we checked Weibo and this is what Chinese people in general think about [whatever]" and it's generally part of some scare about how anti-western or gullible Chinese people are. I've never seen a news article go "we checked what Chinese people on VPNs wrote on Instagram and Twitter and this is what they think about [whatever]" probably because this would ruin the "brainwashed Chinese people" angle
in reply to Manuela Malasaña

man the fact that "Chinese" can refer to an ethnicity as well as citizens of a specific country makes that last post parse really strangely as it would be really weird to say that if the intention was to describe ethnically Chinese people in the diaspora. Somehow making such a sweeping generalization about nationals of a particular country seems less fraught.

for example, Spanish people love ham. yep they go nuts for amateur radio

The video captures a lively martial arts competition taking place in an indoor arena with a colorful mat on the floor. It begins with two young participants engaged in a sparring match, wearing protective gear including headgear and gloves. One child is in black shorts with a red waistband and blue gloves, while the other is in black shorts with white stripes and red gloves. The background is filled with spectators, some standing and others seated, attentively watching the match.

As the match progresses, a man in a white t-shirt and jeans, likely a coach or referee, closely monitors the children, ensuring the match is conducted safely. The children demonstrate various techniques, including punches and kicks, while the man provides guidance and encouragement. The scene transitions to a black-and-white filter, adding a nostalgic or dramatic effect to the footage.

The children continue their sparring, with the man actively engaging with them, offering support and feedback. The children exhibit determination and focus, showcasing their skills and techniques. The video concludes with the children still engaged in their match, while the man remains attentive, ensuring the safety and fair conduct of the competition. The watermark "[@]smotrinetupi" is visible throughout the video, indicating the source of the footage.

The video begins with a person standing on a moss-covered hillside, facing a majestic waterfall cascading down a steep, mossy cliff. The individual, dressed in a light-colored top and dark pants, stands with arms outstretched, seemingly in awe of the natural beauty. The scene is set against a backdrop of vibrant green moss and rugged rock formations, with a clear blue sky overhead. The camera then transitions to a sweeping aerial view, capturing the waterfall's descent into a pool below, surrounded by a river snaking through the valley. The lush greenery and the flowing water create a serene and picturesque landscape. The video continues with a closer aerial perspective, highlighting the river's movement through the rocky terrain, emphasizing the natural beauty and tranquility of the scene. The video concludes with a steady aerial shot of the river, showcasing the dynamic flow of water over rocks and the surrounding moss-covered cliffs, encapsulating the untouched beauty of the landscape.

According to Ukrainian sources, the Atesh partisan movement and an underground Ukrainian network helped direct the strike on a key fuel depot in Luhansk. The site, now burning, supplied Russia’s 41st and 20th combined arms armies.

The image shows a black baking tray with seven breaded food items arranged on it. The tray is placed on a white surface. The food items are cylindrical and appear to be coated in breadcrumbs, giving them a light brown color. They are spaced out on the tray, with some crumbs scattered around them. The tray has a slightly worn appearance, with visible crumbs and small food particles on its surface. The overall scene suggests that the food items are prepared for baking or frying.

probably dumb take, but typst is just as bad as latex. whether I have to look up in one documentation and struggle for 20mins to get a simple border with a solid color or struggle 20mins in the other one is no difference for me
in reply to kaia

the problem is that you you cannot remove the complexity out of creating a markup language as complex as LaTeX without making it as complex

the things that are easy to do in LaTeX are because they have little to no options to it, like you don't select the thickness of the bold text or the slant of the italicised text

but once you want to do fine tuning, decorations etc there is no way to remove the very customisation that people expect out of the system

it's like comparing html to css
