Hungary and Slovakia are asking the #EU to remove asset freezes and visa bans on six #Russian businessmen in order to secure the roll-over of the bloc’s individual #sanctions regime on the Kremlin, which has been in place since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of #Ukraine more than three years ago.

The #sanctions, which now cover more than 2,600 individuals and firms after 18 rounds of #EU restrictive measures, must be unanimously extended every six months, usually in mid-March and mid-September

According to several #EU diplomats speaking on condition of anonymity, Slovakia this time wants to remove Usmanov and the businessman Mikhail Fridman. In addition to those two individuals, Hungary is also pushing for the delisting of oligarchs Dmitry Mazepin, Pyotr Aven, Musa Bazhaev, and Albert Avdolyan.

Just finished reading Move Slowly and Build Bridges by @rwg, an academic study all about Mastodon. I've read books published by Oxford University Press before, but I've never _enjoyed_ a book from OUP like I have Gehl's book. Gehl's analysis of Mastodon and the Fediverse is incisive and insightful--he articulates as few others have what makes a non-centralized social media platform like Mastodon both challenging and so essential to maintain.

@kallekn the main market for Oxford is libraries, so if you recommend the book to a local library, they can probably get it easily.
in reply to Robert W. Gehl

I am certain the university library in Lund will have it in a short while. At the moment the book is only available as an e-book at a couple of other university libraries in Sweden – for staff and students, but not for the general public as far as I understand.

I forgot my cup of coffee this morning and obviously got distracted every time I was going to get it after that. Started getting a headache this afternoon, now I take some aspirin and it dawns on me I haven't had any coffee as I'm going to have my evening cold coffee and sit and relax. 🤣
in reply to Tom

Those caffeine withdrawal headaches are no joke.

I find dealing with MIME parts (e.g., when troubleshooting email rendering) incredibly annoying. There's solid CLI tooling (e.g., `ripmime`) but it still involves a fair bit of poking to get the stuff you want.

Ended up vibe-coding (*gasp*) a quick solution for myself that uses `fzf` and `ripmime` together to make it easy to inspect mail parts. Sharing in case it's useful for anyone else - let me know if so, and I'll clean it up a bit and give it a repo.

“PBS is cutting 100 positions, or roughly 15 percent of its staff, as a result of the major federal funding cuts to public broadcasting.

Paula Kerger, the chief executive of PBS, said in an email to station managers on Thursday that the staff reductions were a last resort. The organization had already frozen hiring, restricted travel and paused pay increases.”

Started at 0930 (9:30am) my time with 30 pounds of tomatoes.

At 1830 (6:30pm), I had ten pint jars of tomato sauce all processed and cooling off.

That's a lot more work than I realized it would be, but I'm sure the results are worth it and I know more for the next time!

@justin These are the folks and recipes I've learned from. All approved by the USDA (before 2025, if you get my drift...) so they're safe recipes if you follow them.

I think my bedroom aircon stopped working properly yesterday... it looks like it repeatedly tries and gives up? Manually setting the fan speed to max it *does* cool the room, but it won't do it in auto mode.

Is this a common symptom of needing a coolant gas refill?

in reply to Asahi Lina (朝日リナ) // nullptr::live

Here usually it's either that, dirty insides messing with the automatic machinery, or a voltage drop

But then again that it works when manually set to max means that it's likely neither voltage nor too few coolants no?

Me: I’m gonna stay away from the news today. I don’t have the spoons for it. I think I’ll scroll through Mastodon instead.

*sees a toot cleverly referencing some crazy bullshit in the news*

Me: Ok, now I HAVE to know what that’s about.

*checks news. has nervous breakdown*

in reply to sezduck

Haha, no! You see, it's a game to see how many memes and hot takes until you piece together what today's new unimaginable horror is. Checking the actual news is cheating. 🙃🫠

Q: “The DNC posted in support of Zohran. You’ve met with him twice and still declined to endorse him. Are you out of step with your party?” A defensive @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social : “I don’t know. I guess people are gonna have to figure that out.” 🤔 #AIPACShakur

I think congressional hearings like the one with RFK Jr should all go something like this:

Senator: what the fuck is wrong with you?

RFK Jr: Excuse me, wha-

Senator: Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with your brain? Did you get kicked by a mule? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!

-and it should keep going like that until the person being deposed either tells everyone what the fuck is wrong with them or quits in frustration. Maybe utilize bright lights and sections of hose filled with sand.
