in reply to Jim Hubbell • • •it doesn't even matter what the rest of the world thinks. Hyundai, SK Group, LG and Hanwa are huge companies and all have a stake in this plant. The SK president would take a call from any of these chaebol CEOs in a heartbeat. Any future SK investment in the US is going to need a nod of agreement from Hyundai, as no SK company will want Hyundai upset.
This issue should have been dealt with by a suggestion from a senior ICE official to a senior Hyundai executive at a meeting in South Korea that visas be regularised and that this would be checked on a date some months away.
As it is, the US clearly chose offence and disruption.
The timing couldn't be worse, the lead story in SK news today also being about Trump and poor choices by the US. South Korea is waiting to see what North Korea's response will be to the murder of its citizens by US troops.
