It’s been five years since I was elected to the #OpenStreetMap Foundation board becoming the first POC and the first person residing outside the U.S., Canada, and Europe to be elected. I like to think I broke some sort of glass ceiling because the OSMF currently has three POC on the board, and three people based in Africa or Asia.

By default, a matrix server keeps a full local cache of every room you join, including all media. This is by design, because rooms are distributed across all participating servers. Unlike MUC chat groups on XMPP, which are unreachable any time the originating server goes down.
You can constrain storage use by limiting cache size, or telling the server to autodelete media after Z time (eg a week).
