in reply to Albert Cardona • • •While at work the air conditioning failed during the last UK heat wave, my (pre-1750) home stayed pleasantly cool thanks to massive stone walls and thatched roof. In mid-summer southern France, it’s the Romanesque churches that provide a reliably refuge from the smouldering heat (and personally, I prefer the moist cold of a medieval building to the strange conditioned air of malls).
Massive stone walls are probably unaffordable and unsustainable for most modern buildings, but I would think thanks to decades of clever engineering we can get a similar effect with thin modern materials.
