However, for us in #melbourne it will already be the 8th when the eclipse starts.
The Moon will enter the Earth’s penumbra at 1:29am and will slowly start to darken over the next hour.
By 2:30am it will enter the umbra, the dark part of the shadow. It will fully enter that by 3:30am.
At that point it will turn red, as light from all sunrises and sunsets passing through our atmosphere will be the only thing illuminating it.
Totality will last until 4:55am. The Moon will enter relatively deep into the umbra, so totality lasts a while and may be quite dark.
An hour later, the Moon will have left the umbra and will start to brighten again.
We’ll miss the final part, as the Moon will set still half in the penumbra by 6:30am.

Not unexpectedly, the continued hostility from the US towards the World Trade Organisation & Trump's ratcheting up of trade interventions (tariffs), has prompted a coalition of the willing to emerge at the WTO & begin to organise a ad-hoc 'rules-based' trading group that would complement other free trade blocs outside the USA.
While there is a lot of work to do, the pivot away from the US market continues & once underway may prove (for the US) difficult to subsequently reverse!

With xfce/XOrg, this was out of the box enabled.
Edit: with my desktop/USB trackball/mouse, it's working as expected. Just not with the touchpad. So I'd like to swipe with two fingers up/down while Shift key is pressed to scroll horizontally.
