I have an issue with Speech to Text in #HomeAssistant and I can't be the only one running into this, but I can't find many references to it in my searches.
I have a simple example. When you ask TTS for something but it understands it wrong and gives you the wrong text.
I ask for "Deadloch" (an Australian TV Show) using American English TTS but it understands "Deadlock".
I am trying to use this for looking up media in Jellyfin, but of course "Deadlock" does not exist so this fails.
I have an automation that does the look up. How can I create a whitelist of sorts that replaces commonly misheard words for the correct one?
I can't seem to find a way to modify the trigger variable in the automation. Is the only option to copy the value into another variable and then use that for the search?
I wanted to do a top If that replaces common misspellings but only if one matches, otherwise the variable stays the same.
@Oggie I used conditions in the automation and added one at the top that if the "heard" text matches the wrong value, it just forces it to play the correct media using the known media ID.
Then it continues and if it can't find the result, responds with "Not found"
And then the last one is one to process a valid media ID.
I use a script that obtains the media ID from Jellyfin using the REST API. So I'm basically going to manually correct any known errors but otherwise it should use the results from the search.
Ok I found a way to do this, didn't have to be this complicated.
Since this is a very specific issue, I just added a condition that if the STT value is "Deadlock" it just automaticlaly plays the media ID that belongs to Deadloch, else it continues using the media ID found with the script.
I got the magazines that came with BASIC programs printed in them, you could pay extra to get a subscription that included a tape with the code so you didn't have to type the whole thing in and risk typos.
That early foray into BASIC was essential for my early involvement in technology, in spite of what Dijkstra said that one time....
I was given a bunch of old Compute!'s Gazettes by an uncle who'd moved onto PCs from his Commodore 64. I did not get the benefit of the tape or disk option unfortunately, but as a result, many of those magazines are bedaubed with felt-tip where I marked my progress whiling away hours typing in those programs.
I learned so much about the Commodore 64 from those magazines.
By the time I got my C64C in the '90s, magazines had long since stopped publishing code listings due to cost. If they'd continued to do so, magazines would have been twice the price, and less than half as many people would have been able to afford them. As it was, the magazines were, by that point, at least partially subsidised by game companies who wanted to get a demo out on the tape or disk.
I'm still annoyed my subscription to one of those magazines ran out the month before the last ever issue. I could probably get one on eBay for a reasonable price, but it's the principle, dammit.

I got into computers in the mid 70s with the advent of the Altair. Reading your comment was like a flashback. I remember you'd finally get through, meticulously typing in all the pages of code. So your cross your fingers and ran it and got an error. But I was hooked. I still have my Altair, Timex/Sinclair, Ti 99 & 994a. I had/have everything imaginable for the Ti. You needed a kitchen table to spread all that out on.
Later on, as you say, demos became a big thing, I loved the demos. I would write just about anyone giving away a demo of something. Game demos would at least let you play one or two levels.
So your cross your fingers and ran it and got an error.
And eventually we learned to understand the programs we were typing in, knowing what those errors meant and how to fix them without looking back at the listing. Magical.

Is there some other setting I'm not aware of that influences these slight over-extrusions in places where the print head is switching directions? In this case it doesn't matter, but in extremely narrow places it tends to almost pile up a little bit.
Pressure Advance and Z-Height are dialed in optimally, can't do sth. about those without either risking bed adhesion (height) or suffering under-extrusion in other places (PA). Also pretty sure the extruder stepper is dialed in properly. #3DPrinting
For small Areas there is small area flow compensation. What you have right there seems a bit like too much flow... I had this too, but since im mostly using a P1P (Bambulab) printer its not there anymore or way less. I will have a look if the other klipper pinter have this more showing.
@Otto_Gloeckner Thanks. 😀 This is an old Anycubic Mega X w/ Klipper and there's a good chance I missed some very specific calibration for this (especially because my other printer, an even older Anycubic i3 Mega, does the very same 😅).
Laser plotters/engravers have a similar effect caused by the deceleration and aceleration of the head when changing directions. You can fix this there by lowering the power output for the laser near the edges of your engraving area.
@Drayventhal I expected it to be solved after the Pressure Advance calibration (which lowers / stops the extruder motor before edges to make sure the nozzle doesn't spit out too much material). Sounds like the equivalent thing to lasers lowering power output.
@Drayventhal Might be, someone mentioned there are additional compensation settings for small areas though. That sounds like a better idea than calibrating one single setting to the very brink of it still working.
If you want stable parts, this is the little overpressure you want to have.
So this is fine.
You can reduce the perimeter/infill overlap percentage in the slicer settings to reduce this, should be around 15% of extrusion width.
And also this effect is where you see if your feed% are right to the (not everytime constant) filament diameter *mid print* to adjust it when needed on the go.
@gafu It's causing problems in narrow sections though, where it piles up so much across multiple layers I can sometimes hear the head rumble over the material. So I need to do something about it.
The overlap should be at 15%, I remember going through that setting. I'll keep investigating.
You can try to get overlap down a bit, maybe 10% in a first step, and slightly reduce overall feedrate by 2 or 3% for critical print objects, but you loose a bit of printing process safety in case of filament diameter tolerances.
I would save these settings in a special slicer profile and only use it for objects with critical pattern.
The additional material at the corners ensure a good bonding between perimeter and top/bottom layers and perimeters and infill, so its a bit more than needed to be shure it will work in the end.
The better your printer runs (no backlash on the x/y axis and precise material dosing/working extrusion path) the more you can get lower with overlap settings
Someone mentioned that there are slicer settings that specifically address the issue in narrow spaces though, I'll go with that first before going with what sounds like overall less reliable settings. Maybe iam outdated at this point, the old slic3r which was forked from prusa back in the days doesnt had such compensation, and the firmware related things linke pressure advance cant prevent from "on purpose built in material overload"

Growing up poor, I decided that I never want to live like that again. I bought into the work gospel: work hard to get a degree, get a nice job, be a productive member of society.
Well, that doesn't work for anyone. You get this temporary safety buffered by income and savings. I'm not them anymore, you tell yourself. You buy nice things for the people in your life who can't afford them, but deep down, you know they shouldn't be struggling in the first place.
The deeper you look, the more you see the systemic inequity scream out at you. You put more blinders on. Make yourself feel better through philanthropy.
"What good could I do as one person?", you ask yourself, "I'm not a billionaire. I don't even own my own home. I'm not responsible for their well-being."
In Canada, the tech salaries aren't as inflated as in the US. But then I see my friends living off disability, and friends working low-waged jobs finally feel like they've "made it" at $50k (Canadian)/yr, and it's a shit job. But they can never leave it because they believe that it's the best they can get. And there they are, a decade later, still at the same pay.
The wealth gap is killing us.
You can't rest because you'll be poor. You can't be unemployed because you'll be poor. You can't fight for better working conditions because you'll be fired, then poor.
Nowhere in here did I even mention living. This fear overwhelms every part of our lives, that we're willing to give up more and more of it for money.
When do we live? When do we find peace and belonging in community? When do we find out that poverty can be defeated in community? When do we defeat poverty?

So many people have big dreams and think every choice is just temporary. Then the young adult thinks “oh this $20/hour job is fantastic. But when does reality come in?
My 23-year old granddaughter is moving to a far better home rented with friends. She said “Grandma, my apartment and utilities are taking almost all of my paychecks!” And at the moment she hadn’t thought about her car payments too. And she hasn’t thought past what she would do if her employer closes down her older store she works in.
I sure do get that! And I’m glad she’s had about 7 jobs now in 5 years. Yes, she could try jobs out. But she had backup from her parents. Even now, if she completely lost her job she could move back home. If her car was wrecked her parents would help a little on getting a replacement. How many young adults have that backup? I didn’t and most of my friends didn’t.
I am grateful to have had a great variety of jobs and lived in many places and states. I just never thought I’d spend the next 40 years scrambling to get by.
