@herrherrmann mastodon.social is way too big, has unmoderated signups and is very badly moderated. That leads to a lot of problems for the Fediverse.
First and most obvious is the regular scam waves coming from m.s and other big servers with unmoderated signups.
But far worse is that such a big server is a big pain for well moderated servers: Moderators on smaller servers spend a lot of unpaid time moderating accounts and posts on m.s, while moderators on m.s get paid for moderating badly.
If a small server is moderated this badly, its easy to just block it as a whole, but if I blocked m.s that would probably lead to many people leaving my server and moving to m.s or another big, badly moderated server, because m.s is about 25% of the Fediverse.
Saying m.s is not part of the Fediverse is of course technically not true, but if you, like me, define the Fediverse as a non-central network, then a server hoarding 25% of the users does not fall under that definition.

It’s necessary, but not sufficient, because taxes work only after corporations and the wealthy have consolidated wealth into their own hands.
The second half of this, is cutting off the supply. affordable housing, affordable food, healthcare, utilities..

I mean technically, at the end of the day, yeah-- taxes are enforced at the point of a gun, ultimately somebody gets arrested and locked up if they don't pay up, right? But it ain't like these fuckers are gonna sit still for that and actually fork over the cash. They'll move their assets so it's not counted, they'll unleash circuses of lawyers, bribe judges-- but they'll certainly also threaten judges, and does anyone honestly think they won't straight up assassinate people too if they damn well feel like it? Taxes are paid at gunpoint, and these are people who have the power AND audacity to buy off that gun, or even shoot back.

I think much can be done from the bottom up beyond individual action is rallying your town to throw these fuckers out. Push out the big box stores push out the data centers, push out the warehouses and reinvest in a communities, local businesses and people.
A lot can be done at the community level to cut them off of the money that makes them so powerful. Not saying easy, but that’s where we have the most power right now is in our own communities.
