Alright,so New Kids On The Block can bring up some mixed reactions in terms of the popularity they ended up reaching. And unlike groupie girls who went out to buy their comforters, bedroom sets, pillow cases, dolls and whatever else they were marketing, I always go back to the music. I liked New Kids long before all the crazy popularity set in. I remember when this song first came out, and I was instantly hooked because it had the Jackson 5/New Edition vibe to it. In short, I was NKOTB when NKOTB wasn't cool. This song also holds some fond memories of a person I was dating at the time it came out. Overall, it's just a cute love song. I like the melody, the lyrics, and the grove of it. Anyway, enjoy the trip down memory lane!! ๐

Before switching to #mobian on my phone I was afraid I would miss apps. It turns out to be very different. Not working (yet?) is the non-standard onlinebanking, threema, signal (soon to change) working: calendar, tasks, addressbook all including sync, calls, messages, whatsapp, matrix, mastodon, rss, discord (no threads), backup, music, dark mode, routing for public transportation, navigation.
I like the approach. My fear is #Meta will require to use an app they make, i.e. their #proprietary app on a proprietary OS (#Android or #ios). The solution is requiring people to use #FreeAsInFreedom, ideally #serverless #InstantMessenger . Sadly there are too many alternatives which is detrimental to an actual migration from proprietary services.
@paoloredaelli There is no fix for this while continuing to use their walled gardens. I do realize this makes me sound like Stallman. I do not think chat needs to be serverless to be free. There is xmpp which works really well in 2025. As for clients, picky any. This is the selection I tried: on android Cheogram or snikket or conversations. On Linux dino or gajim or profanity. Windows clients I have not tried, but there is gajim and dino.

Where did they put the other films (for download)? I am happy to torrent them, but I'm also happy to just download a zip somewhere. I just want them ideally in 4k, but I'll settle for 1080p if they REALLY don't exist in 4k for the public.

Hey #electronics hive mind, can I have your help please? We have a set of LED fairy lights with a little control module that has 8 modes, and we only use the 8th one, "constantly on". We'd like to fix it so it always comes on fixed in constant mode. Don't care about the other modes at all. I can see there are two channels - powering alternate LEDs on the rope, which are switched by two transistors, controlled by a chip under a resin blob. I tried bridging the bases of the transistors, but that just made the LEDs flicker. So I'm wondering if it's safe to just bypass them entirely by bridging the emitter and collector? As far as I can tell, the LEDs are being driven by raw 240v DC, coming straight out of a bridge rectifier from the mains. As the LEDs are in series, the village drop compounds, hence the high voltage. My reasoning is that if I bridge the transistors, the power will just go straight to both channels... But my understanding is pretty basic... If it helps here are two pics of both sides of the board. Yes, I know it's janky - I have plans to at least anchor the wires, but not until I've fixed this issue. (Sorry forgot to add images, done now)

i popped into the occult bookstore that opened up recently in my neighborhood and it was cute and it was fun to look around, but i'm a little disappointed by the in retrospect obvious irony of their selection mostly being fairly accessible if dubious self help books and not so much weird reference books on obscure topics. i got a cool looking iron key though

Oh last winter I ran into a street seller, second hand books. An improvised bookshop that appeared out of nowhere. I started checking out what he has, mostly classics with fading covers, decades old. After taking a good look at me he reached deep into a cardboard box and took out a book I had never heard of before. "I think you will like it" he said solemnly, so I bought it and took it home, forgetting all about it until around May. I opened it and it was the crapiest novel I ever read.
