"President Trump’s cuts to humanitarian assistance abroad have hurt all kinds of people. But from what I see on the ground, those suffering the most are women and girls — and that will leave all of us, including men and boys, worse off.
Sometimes the cuts don’t directly target girls, but when families are stressed it is girls who pay the highest price. In a Congolese refugee settlement I visited in southwestern Uganda, Rwamwanja, aid cuts led to reduced food assistance and to the layoffs of 88 teachers; the result was that thousands of students dropped out of school in the last few months, and the great majority of the dropouts were girls.
“Only about one-quarter of our schoolchildren are girls now,” David Mugenyi, the settlement’s commandant, told me. Until a few months ago, it was close to 50-50, he said.
He explained that 70 percent of families in the settlement lost their food assistance around May, and when households are economically pinched, they pull their daughters out of school to fetch firewood and water, to mind younger siblings, to work in the fields or to sell vegetables in the market."

Y sobre el número de hablantes de esperanto, es imposible de calcular porque estamos desperdigados por todo el mundo sin ningún estado que facilite el recuento, pero las estimaciones dicen que hay una horquilla de 400.000-2.000.000 hablantes. Y ahora con la era de internet esta reviviendo mucho el movimiento!

Holis, perdón por entrometerme en la discusión, mas creí que podría aportar unos cuantos datos >u< .
En general, me parece, cuando la gente habla de la complejidad o simplicidad del esperanto o del volapük se tiende a reducir estas características a una cuestión puramente técnica; esto es, la gramática del esperanto sería, en su esencia, más simple que la del volapük. Sin embargo, como ambas lenguas eran proyectos políticos propiamente dichos, la complejidad del volapük fue deseada por su inventor por razones ideológicas y clasistas. Su objetivo desde un inicio fue dirigirse a la burguesía intelectual —a la gente "cultivada" para citar sus propias palabras—; mientras que Zamenhof, en un principio nacionalista sionista, se radicalizó en el movimiento obrero internacionalista porque deseaba que su lengua fuese utilizada por todos, incluyendo a las clases populares.
