Republicans have painted Democrats as "anti American" for being free traders. Democrats need to get free trade RELIGION before the mid-terms.
Tariffs are evil. They are a caustic tax on everything, including American productivity. If you are liberal, then you should HATE tariffs because they are a regressive tax that fall on the poor more heavily than the rich.
I have feared that Democrats are just waiting for Trump to leave, only to keep the tariffs in place.

My other profiles are my main account (mostly PT BR stuff) and my kink account.
Algebra uses a lot of binary operations - addition, multiplication, Lie brackets - but not so many ternary operations. Why is this? Is it just our difficulty in understanding anything more complicated than glomming together two things at a time?
There are, however, some important examples of ternary operations. For example, analogy questions like
"queen is to king as WHAT is to father?"
are really asking you to perform a ternary operation. You can make this mathematical using ratios. Suppose you take a group and define
t(a,b,c) = abโปยนc
You should think of this as answering the question
"a is to b as WHAT is to c?"
The reason is that if we define t(a,b,c) as above we have
abโปยน = t(a,b,c)cโปยน
We can figure out which equations this operation t obeys, and get the definition of a 'heap'. If you take a heap and declare any element to be the identity, it becomes a group! So we see a heap is "a group that has forgotten its identity".
Two other important gadgets with ternary operations are 'Lie triple systems' and 'Jordan triple systems'. I've been thinking about these a lot, and fixing up the Wikipedia article on them:

The famous algebraist Nathan Jacobson invented them in 1949. The idea is this. Suppose you take an associative algebra A and define the commutator [a,b] and anticommutator {a,b} by
[a,b] = ab - ba
{a,b} = ab + ba
Then define the Lie triple product by
[a,b,c] = [[a,b],c]
and the Jordan triple product by
{a,b,c} = {{a,b},c}
These obey some equations which become the axioms of Lie triple system and Jordan triple system. But their real importance shows up in geometry!

Waltz spoke to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, ahead of a vote on a resolution to condemn the U.S.โs economic restrictions on Cuba. As Waltz defended his nationโs position, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez interrupted his speech with a โpoint of order,โ and slammed the ambassadorโs remarks as โuncivilized, crude and gross.โ

But now, a little-known algorithmic process called โdifferential privacy,โ created to keep census data from being used to identify individual respondents, has become the rightโs latest focus. WIRED spoke to six experts about the GOPโs ongoing effort to falsely allege that a system created to protect peopleโs privacy has made the data from the 2020 census inaccurate.
If successful, the campaign to get rid of differential privacy could not only radically change the kind of data made available, but could put the data of every person living in the US at risk. The campaign could also discourage immigrants from participating in the census entirely.
The Census Bureau regularly publishes anonymized data so that policymakers and researchers can use it. That data is also sensitive: Conducted every 10 years, the census counts every person living in the United States, citizen and noncitizen alike. The data includes detailed information like the race, sex, and age, as well the languages they speak, their home address, economic status, and the number of people living in a house. This data is used for allocating the federal funds that support public services like schools and hospitals, as well as for how a stateโs population is divided up and represented in Congress. The more people in a state, the more congressional representationโand more votes in the Electoral College.
