Sure, students who read only A.I. summaries will be subjected to predictable analysis and homogeneous prose, but they could save time and energy. In truth, the ability to determine what is being argued for and how is not dispensable. No aspect of cognitive understanding is perfunctory.
Without the chance to develop these capacities, young people would not be able to understand a news report, medical documents and consent forms or the merit of an argument (including this one). A depleted conceptual reservoir would render our lives crude and our experience of the world undifferentiated and coarse. Worst of all, cognitive degradation threatens our claim to self-rule: It is far from obvious that the denizens of the subcognitive society would be fit to participate in the democratic processes that determine how we structure our societies and lives."

It’s with these five action points that Olivia Guest, Iris van Rooij and a bunch of colleagues conclude their open letter directed to Dutch universities and colleges. Guest and van Rooij know what they’re talking about: both work at the School of Artificial Intelligence and the Donders Centre for Cognition of Radboud University in Nijmegen.
Guest, van Rooij and their colleagues further explain their reasons for resisting in a position paper. Put simply, the technology that OpenAI and co are pushing threatens the very raison d'être of universities. The authors of the position paper oppose this and insist that “university leaders and administrators must act to help us collectively turn back the tide of garbage software”.

Good news, everyone! I'm excited to announce that my partner @g1m01982 is going to a job interview in the next couple of hours. He's trying to look at it as a "test run" as he starts to tiptoe back into the wonderful world of entry-level employment so that he isn't as overwhelmed by fear of it not panning out.
It's been two years since he's been able to work. I am so proud of him for taking this big step!

I bought orthotic insoles as I think my foot injury is caused by overpronation. I used them in my running shoes for walking to work and I think they’re going to be a game changer. If I can’t run again soon I am going to explode
I wore orthotics for decades as I had flat feet due to hyper mobility. Got angry with a new pair and (insanely) switched totally to toe shoes (no insoles, no support) 13 years ago and built up the foot muscles instead.
@nowster I’m seeing a sports injury person in 10 days. They couldn’t fit me on any faster than that. I think I need exercises to strengthen my ankles, they’ve always been too bendy
One of the interesting things about running in a club with a load of oldies is that everyone is very careful and vigilant and supportive about injuries. Because no run is worth an injury that stops you running. But inevitably they happen and it's nice to know there are people out there who genuinely empathise. Like I am with you now. By talking about myself. It's a form of empathy! I'm just messing about. I hope you're OK, old Bendy Ankles (what we all call you behind your back.... which we shouldn't because you could just bend right around on those ankles of yours, and catch us talking shit about you - sorry, I'll have a word with everyone and let them know we should stop calling you that).
