Or they blame the Covid lockdowns, or the woke virus in the schools, or any number of things other than the miserable, bleak future kids can plainly see before them.
And as a teacher, it's being turned on us, with nearly all professional development over the last 3 years focused on things we can do differently, new things they want us to try, more work without additional pay, in order to solve the teen mental health epidemic.
To be fair, I think it's fantastic that some school districts are trying to address this problem, get staff to work from a more trauma-informed perspective, as it can make school more empathetic and less punitive; dig deeper to find the actual causes for tardiness and truancy and provide supports, when possible, rather than assume it's just bad behavior, requiring punishment; because it gets staff to listen more to their students and, hopefully, be less autocratic in their classrooms.
But like most educational reforms, they completely ignore the elephant in the room, the increasing poverty, decreasing access to healthcare, increasing costs of college, the existential threat of nuclear war and climate collapse--things that persist and grow worse nationally, globally, regardless of how much extra work they squeeze out of us at school.

I’m sure this is just the way it’s gotta work, but I’d love any tips! I’d especially like tips on when to start refactoring or how to best organize things.

I am re-reading #BengaliCooking by #ChitritaBanerji. It is a great read and great insight into the different food sub-cultures of the area too. I love that it addresses some of those sub-cultures on the second page, and also talks about mashed potato enlivened with mustard oil, green or red chillies, raw onions and salt. I am totally making that today.

Having failed to eliminate the pink haired Roberta and detecting a “human input error”, a mysterious business entity turns its attention to manufacturing and churning out a vast ARRAY! of products gleaned from extracted data and containing delicious chunks garnered from its human input; distilling our test subject into cleaning sprays, tinned hair, face mayonnaise and a pink beverage called Synthy Pop (which has been known to cause side effects) amongst other things. You can only leave once you have become a product.
The video for “Mover” continues the themes of the previous videos around imagination, technological outpacing, churn and the distorting spectacle of the artist in a world of algorithmic approval and branding.
How the video was made:
“Much like the animated video for Here Come the Lucky Ones, Mover was made over several months with faithful DaVinci Resolve software, lots of pink cellophane, stock footage, miniature versions of, ahem, well known food brands, a multitude of pink and orange plinths my dad 3D printed for me and a bunch of old (and possibly unsafe) beauty products I’ve collected from the 1950s and 1960s."

Someone recently managed to get on a Microsoft Teams call with representatives from phone hacking company Cellebrite, and then leaked a screenshot of the company’s capabilities against many Google Pixel phones, according to a forum post about the leak and 404 Media’s review of the material.The leak follows others obtained and verified by 404 Media over the last 18 months. Those leaks impacted both Cellebrite and its competitor Grayshift, now owned by Magnet Forensics. Both companies constantly hunt for techniques to unlock phones law enforcement have physical access to.

i'm well known for hating bipedal robots because the human form simply isn't optimized for home or work, and frankly limiting.
