New here, why I’m here
I joined Facebook 20yrs ago when it felt genuine and personal. Now, as a cyclist and former hill walker and motorcyclist, my feed is filled with clickbait about accidents involving those activities. Same with Twitter, which started great for connecting with my edtech tribe but then turned vitrioolic. Hoping Mastodon offers a kinder, more thoughtful space.

I've been on Fedi since 2017, started driving quite late in life (after many decades cycling) - in fact I only got my licence in 2019.
Although there are indeed discussions and toots about road safety (many of them mine) including some reports of nasty collisions that have occured around the country and in Europe, as well understandable debates about the impact of cars on the environment one thing that is different (and I have not seen anything else) is I've got full on eco warriors as well as car enthusiasts on my timeline (I currently drive a hot hatch) and yet there aren't the constant arguments you would get on the corporate networks - everyone co-exists peacefully..
@vfrmedia As a hillwalker, motorcyclist, driver, cyclist—and now e-biker—I’ve seen the road from just about every angle. What frustrates me about mainstream social media is how much of it feels like clickbait designed to provoke, not to invite genuine discussion.
Well done on getting your licence! I passed my motorcycle test at 50, and it opened up a whole new kind of freedom. I’m actually just mulling over a blog post about that period in my life.

in reply to mcc • • •@mcc So I never really got the point of Figma honestly. What I’ve seen just looks like the old RAD tools from the 90’s minus the ability to end up with a functional app.
One explanation I was given was to isolate the designers from the developers, but is that really useful?
On the other hand, I’ve seen ads for AI tools that make your Figma design into a real app which… again… UGH WHY‽ we already had that!

in reply to slembcke • • •We were using it as a 2D vector editor that made it easy to align things to a grid, had data synchronization/net collaboration built in, and was SVG-aware enough we could embed game-specific data into the SVG.
Then the data synchronization turned into a curse because like, all the data is on their server, all the data is theirs.
